Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 09/2009

Mary- I am glad you are feeling better. How's Erica? I failed my 1st driving test, but passed it the second. I wish her luck.

Julie- yay!!! I am glad, also , that you will be able to talk to her! I love your family trip idea- a mix of FUN and relaxation.

Sooo looks like everyone that had a hysterectomy are happier girls now. I'm ok with it, tired of all the issues, but I have been hoping to salvage things because I wanted to try for another child. Chad is not on board anymore, he will be 40 in June so.. looks like no point in trying and since no more trying Dr thinks I just need to have all removed. Had surgery last March and cysts were back by Sept or Oct. '
Cried when she recommended it but Chad promised I could have a puppy .. :rotfl: A girl, so I can dress her up lmao.

Julie, so glad you get to talk to Marie!! I'm about to get teary for you .

I cannot even explain in words how having a hysterectomy was the best thing I ever did for myself. Paul and I were also "trying" for years before I had it done, but it also never happened due to all the issues. My uterus just said, "no".:)

I am sorry you are facing it, but also think that you will feel THAT much better once you've had it, esp with all the problems you've been having.
I hope that either God changes His mind for you, and/or you have peace about the decision. It was a tough one for us too- until that LAST cycle.:yay:Then I knew I could no longer deal with it.

I am ME again. And I buy feminine products for my daughter!
Paul teases b/c he not even a 6 month break from the darn thing!

I got my birth certificate in today :woohoo:so tomorrow I can go get my license!
Paul needs his now, then we can go get passes.
We have our "Give a Day, get a day" vouchers to put toward paying for the seasonal passes. Now I just pray we CAN afford them sooner rather than later.

Lori

Jaime - You are very talented!
JW- Don't sell yourself short! Macaroni art? As If! Even just in the sketch stage I can tell it will be something special. I agree with the previous suggestions of keeping it simple. It's not the food DMom will remember - it's the company.
Jamie, Love the picture, cant wait to see finished product.
... looks like ill be having a hysterectomy sometime this summer.
Hey y'all,

I've been MIA due to a sinus infection. Sorry I'm not keeping up.

Jamie, You're art is great! I think your Mom will love it!
Jenny - I hope Chad's surgery goes well and as for your hysterectomy I agree with Sheryl, you are going to feel so much better. I look back on mine as one of the best days of my life!

Kyle is having his usual rough month of March suffering with his allergies, poor kid.:sad2:
Jamie- to a mom, artwork from your kids, no matter how old, is a PERFECT gift. I should show you what my kids made me for my kitchen- I framed it-it is really pretty. They took NOLA pics and drew and painted it to thier liking. One is a streetcar and one is a building in NOLA.
I really like your fleur de lis for your mom- she will love it!

Jenny- get the type of hysterectomy I had- superacervical hysterectomy. No cuts- except for belly button and shorter recovery. Beleive me you still FEEL it right after- it is major surgery. If you have any questions just PM me. It is supposed to be better for "other" stuff too.;)

Lori
I had a hysterectomy 12 years ago and it was the best thing I've ever done for my health. I was miserable in my 30s because of gyno problems.

Tonight, we will talk to Rie for the 1st time in 7 weeks!!!!! We're so excited. I've been crying tears of joy off and on since we found out earlier today from our liaison.
Tim and I have decided that just the 3 of us will go to WDW and to the beach-maybe Sanibel- for a couple of weeks when she finishes school. It will gives us family time to get reacquainted. This will probably be sometime in late April or early May.
Jamie, I love your artwork. I'm with Cara--this time of year would be wonderful for a party in the backyard. There's a lot of restaurants who cater. Semolina has excellent salads and pastas. I've used them before for get togethers. Zea also has wonderful panini platters. They are attractive and delicious. You can also get their flavored ice teas, which would be really refreshing.

Jenny, I had the uterine ablasion last July and I've never regretted it once. Its so nice to go on vacation and plan and not have to worry about it being that time of the month to drag you down. :hug:for you.

Now you are making me feel bad because I am sending my mom one of the paintings I did at corks and canvas for her 60th birthday in May. Your art is gorgeous. And coming from a mother... macaroni on construction paper is STILL a treasure :flower3:

Add me to the hysterectomy list. I had the good old fashioned open you up and rip it out kind. It wasn't originally going to be that way so it was a shock when I woke up. I had cervical cancer so it wasn't my only option but really was my only option. We had been throwing around the idea of a fourth child so I was slightly sad about letting that part of my life go, BUT I don't regret it. Not even a little. I figure if we really wanted a fourth child we would adopt and although Sean and I have occasionally gotten that crazy idea, thankfully not at the same time. I am grateful everytime I don't need to buy feminine products at the store. If you do end up with a traditional hysterectomy, I spent the first two days in more pain than I thought possible, but by day four I was at Logan's K graduation and was even able to do lunch with him after. Two weeks later, I didn't feel like the procedure ever took place. And like everyone said, very very happy I did it.
:sad1: Looks like we won't talk to her until tomorrow night. I'm so sad. There are lots of kids who need to call home and Rie just made it to the phase today that allows her to call us, so maybe other kids were ahead of her.

Thanks, all, for the vote of confidence on the piece and the suggestions for the party.

Wishes of clear noses and heads for all my fellow allergy/sinus sufferers.

Jack - good luck with the two Sxs this summer. I think a puppy is an AWESOME idea.

With all ya'll saying how great the hysterectomy was, I'm starting to wonder. I might need to get myself spayed. :rotfl: (That's a little cat vet humor. Ignore me.)

Julie - the trip sounds like a great idea. As I was reading and got to your post, I scrolled ahead to see if you had posted yet after talking to Rie, and I was sorry to see ya'll didn't get to talk to her tonight. Hopefully tomorrow. Is there a time limit? You better make an outline of things you want to cover. ;)

 I'm sorry this didn't work out. Her turn should be soon though!

Yeezow I was not expecting all this hysterectomy talk!

I went out to dinner tonight with some people from work. One of my friends from work is moving to Virginia on Friday. :sad1: We had a good time tonight though chatting and stuff, and I got to know a few people from work better. We at at the Olive Branch Cafe on DeGaulle. Cute little place and the food was good and reasonably priced. We were laughing about how we couldn't decide what to get and then we remembered WE all weren't moving, we could go back! :lmao:

well with all this girl talk, I am sure we scared off any guys who were reading along :scared1: I am having some issues in that area too, probably contributing to me being sick and tired and worn out lately too. three times since mid February is kicking my butt :(

and to top it all off when i called to tell him, HER voice is now on his voice mail  need the pukey smilie there....and of ALL THINGS he told my next door neighbor he wants to MARRY this woman. :scared1: good riddance although i still feel like I got punched in the chest. so why the **!)!)#_# is he being such a butt and fighting me? UGH!

one month to Disney for school! we got the shirts today woo hoo!

ok I want to go to F&W fest in October - if you are already going, please email me your dates so I can try to go when you are...and if you aren't going yet but want to, let me know so maybe we can get rooms together. I am just believing in faith that I can go...

 to you and Grayce.

Monsieur Butt is fighting you because he can tell his Madame Blankety Blank that you're causing the delay. He probably tells her and others in her presence that he wants to marry her but if he was that anxious, he'd be pushing to hurry things along.

Kristina - Julie is absolutely right on! I pm'd you my dates, hoping you can join us.:yay:

Good Morning gang -

Kristina I agree with Jenny, he is being a you know what and making you look like the bad guy. :sad2: I hope you and G feel better soon.

Awe Julie I have my fingers crossed for tonight!

Jaimie you are too funny....get yourself spayed. :rotfl::rotfl:

Jenny girl I feel you on finality of having another baby. DH and I have been going back in forth for years..Obviously he's won that battle. :(

Bethany glad you guys had fun. Sounds like a place we need to check out also. ;)

How many of you are going to F&W? Are you going for the week or weekend? I've been thinking about a weekend trip but not sure yet if my funds will allow me to pull it off.

I feel a NOLA Dis meet in the fall coming on.................................
Party! my house- whenever you come, if there is time;) Or I will just meet you THERE, which sounds like fun to me!

Kristina-men can be ---tards, huh!! I am keeping you in prayer, but as I tell my sister, I really do not think you have a thing to worry about except putting it behind you!

We went orange/tangerine/grapefruit picking yesterday. Saw a wild alligator that made me kinda uncomfortable. Also saw a stripey snake, but don't think he was poisonous. They were both just hanging out in the orchard............
If it were roaches, i 'd have been running and screaming, but for these suckers, I told the kids(I had 2 extra) to just quietly walk by QUICKLY and no tormenting the wild alligator. The couple who runs the orchard told us to be mindful of the alligator.:scared1:
I took pics of the snake, but the alligator freaked me out enough that I was NOT stopping for a mug.

Lori

Good morning:goodvibes

Kris, another hug for you and Grayce:hug:

Did ya'll see the Harry Potter announcement on the front page of disboards? Exciting!!:woohoo: Now I'm really pumped about our trip.

Lori, I don't blame you for the lack of alligator pictures:lmao: I like to see them in a zoo, but not face to face.

Morning all!

Add me to the need to lose weight gang. If I could just get motivated and start walking again, that would work...

Kristina  Isn't there something that can be done legally to move this along? I agree with Julie - he's using you as an excuse...maybe you should leave a voice mail asking him why he keeps delaying it and hope "she" hears it.

Jamie - your picture looks great so far! Can't wait to see it all done.

Jenny - to both you and Chad on your upcoming surgeries.

Sheryl - I hope you are starting to feel better.

Julie - sorry you got all excited and then let down. I hope that call comes thru today. I like the trip idea, sounds like great fun.

Ya know, when I was doing animal handling at the Aquarium, the alligators were my favorite to bring onto the floor. Course, they were babies, no more than 3 feet long.

Lauri, I like the way you think. Kris should definitely leave that message:thumbsup2

Morning all!

Ya know, when I was doing animal handling at the Aquarium, the alligators were my favorite to bring onto the floor. Course, they were babies, no more than 3 feet long.

I used to volunteer there- LOVED it!!! It was back in 1992 and 93. it was my favorite job I ever had- but sadly didn't get paid for it! It is cool you used to work there. This is sad and kinda funny, but my favorite day there was when this absolutely gorgeous hyacinth macaw was flitting around the rainforest exhibit and I was at the exit- the poor bird flew right smack into the glass and fell on the floor. A crowd formed around the poor bird while I was trying to keep people away from him ($10,000 bird from what they told us)who then hopped on my arm while I was calling the animal handlers for help- he was heavy! Ironically, he was my favorite bird at the aquarium before this happened-so holding him was amazing and being that close to him. They are still my favorite macaws to see at zoos and aquariums. My second favorite place at the aquarium was the Mississippi river exhibit- I loved telling people about the while alligator- that he was leucistic, NOT albino! We went to the Aquarium not long before our move and boy- have they gotten BIG!
And holding alligators doesn't freak me out if they are muzzled! He was about 4-5 feet and wild- so not big and not small. I know crocs are fast but wasn't sure about alligators- so we just didn't look at him as we passed- except out of the corner of our eyes as we calmly walked by. he kept looking our way.............hmmmm......:rolleyes1

:scared1: I took Reggie, our Peek a Poo, for a walk when we were at the camp a couple of weeks ago. As we were walking, I heard an alligator issuing a mating call. I grabbed Reggie and ran so fast!!! Too darn bad no one was around with a timer or a tape because I would have broken records for speed running down the street and then for jumping as I went up the stairs.

Lori, I was at the aquarium from 1994 until Katrina. I went back for a several months after they re-opened in May 2006, but after we moved to the north shore that commute was a killer. Especially since I have to do it weekdays for work. The hyacinth was probably Lapis, he was a ladies' man and would generally go to the ladies over the guys on staff. And yes they did cost $10,000 dollars!! I started out as a naturalist guide, then added the education part for awhile, which included the animal handling. We didn't muzzle the alligators, but when they got to about three feet, they were too difficult to handle anymore. So they would go back to the farm and we'd get more babies. At some point, samonella became an issue, so they stopped handling them. I became one of the core volunteers there, and assisted with all the training classes, as well as being part of the volunteer management team. All the family volunteered at some point; Bob was a volunteer diver, and both kids went thru the Aquakids and Aquacorps programs. I truly loved it and do miss it sometimes. I could go on for hours and share lots of stories about the experiences, the parties and the people I met.

Julie - keep an eye on your dog at all times, the gators are alot faster than you'd think and he sounds like a perfect size snack :scared1:

A lady in our neighborhood told us that mating season was coming up and NOT to bring the dogs to the lake that we have access too. She also told us to be careful when we go swimming in the lake. Umm, there will be NO swimming in a lake by anyone in this family! I am not sure we'll be visiting the lake in the upcoming months- I had fairy tale visions of sitting on a pier fishing with the fam..... maybe later!

Umm, what does the mating call sound like???

It WAS Lapis!!! The name evaded me but I knew it was a color or a stone.

I still have my very thick binder from Naturalist training- my kids LOVE looking through it and it has come in handy as a homeschool tool, too.
it is very dated though- now, but we use it still.

Lori

Don't worry, the dogs are NOT coming back to the lake with us. 3 of the 4 would make alligator appetizers.

Lori and Bethany, I can't describe the sound. It's kind of a weird grunt/call.

Hyacinth Macaws are GORGEOUS!!!! They are one of the most beautiful birds I've ever seen.

:dance3::dance3::yay::yay:we talked to rie:dance3::dance3::yay::yay:

She cried the entire call but she was coherent enough to understand. Rie said that she has found an inner strength she didn't know she had. We kept saying how much we miss and love each other. She apologized for the way she had been acting before she left for school. We also told her how proud we are that she's working so hard. She made us laugh because she said she wants to start working with tim on the farm because she works so hard at school. They have to chop wood, cook meals, and they take long hikes every day. Rie said too that she wants to take a trip with just tim and me, so the wdw/panana city trip will work. We're still not sure when she'll come home but it should be w/in the next month or so.

yay!!!!!!
