Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

 for the growing up and moving away bit and :goodvibes for the thinking we're awesome bit. :thumbsup2

I went away to college in Denver and my parents live in Washington State. My mother was NOT happy about that one!

 Awwww...of course I will pray for him!

So it's 3:30 and I'm already at home! I got a ride today because I brought more boxes from work. :thumbsup2

AND...FedEx delivered the paperwork today! :woohoo:
hugs TigerKat and Happy Birthday Kyle! I am not looking forward to that day either with Miss G...

one more week down Piglet! and excited about the paperwork going through! :cool1:

hope Shovan got there safe and they are having a good time! I am SO jealous.....

Cracker-dilly is awesome vacation food! You can't beat breakfast served 24/7!

OH, and I get you on the car singing. Good thing she's a solo act. DH & I about wet ourselves one night on the way home when our two decided to sing every song they knew (including guitar & drum solos :upsidedow) from the Guitar Hero games. It sounded like an ipod on manic shuffle! :rotfl:

So I'm guessing y'all should be checking in right about now....DH must've really wanted to get away that y'all left so early! Have fun!

Hey there! Sorry to hear your little man still isn't himself. Hope this summer is boring & incident-free!

So true...I was a baldy 'til almost 12mos & my boys have to-die-for eyelashes.

Colored dots???? Tax dollars hard at work, huh?

Well guys, as if we needed a reason to celebrate this weekend....we've got a welcome toast to Erik, happy birthday to Kyle & an anniversary for DH & me!

Lorie - How's everyone doing? DS1 was a bit jaundiced as well, but we were able to just take care of it @ home by keeping him by a window. Fingers crossed he doesn't need to stay in the NICU. Are you getting rest?

Happy almost Friday!

too funny about the kids!

and boys always seem to get the long eyelashes....which we so desperately need!

and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!

Lorie...I have been wondering about Sienna too. How's she doing?

Kim...I'm so sorry to hear about your DS.

Hasta la vista, baby!:lmao:

:lmao:

:lmao: about the car....my brother and I used to drum in the car on the door armrest things. My parents did not find is quite so funny...just annoying. :rotfl:

Yes. Our writing rubrics are color coded by "element" (for example, the story has a good beginning) and we are supposed to put a dot of that color in their story where we see "evidence of the element". Okay...I get it. Green dot for a beginning. Black dot for an ending. Purple dot if they write about the character's feelings. I do not understand WHY this took 2 hours. :confused3 :rotfl2:

I thought I put more multi-quotes? Either the DIS is eating them or I am losing it.

So I was looking at my credit card bill today and our one way plane tickets to NOLA were purchased on 5/04. Go figure! :lmao:

I've decided to hold out on the phone as long as I can. I want to wait until I'm moved and see if I use the internet on the phone as much and if I even need a smart phone or I can get just a, ya know, normal phone with texting.

And while I'm trying to just plan out the rest of this month, my mother is emailing me about plans for Thanksgiving. :headache: She wants to know if I want to go to some "Bayou Classic" football game for some school I've never heard of. :rotfl2: My brother and SIL will stay with DH and I and my parents are going to stay in a hotel. They are deciding between the Omni Royal or the JW Marriott. My dad wants to stay in or near the French Quarter.

Okay...off to clean off the nightmare on top of my desk and get some packing done now that I have some more boxes!

I am looking less forward to them driving than going to college. I mean, it's all gonna hurt a bit, but them driving is gonna give me anxiety-I will seriously probably need to go back on lexapro:laughing:- no, seriously!

I am, however , so looking forward to see what God has planned for them in thier lives-what they are gonna do, who they'll end up with, etc...

I grabbed Ashton today, who is getting SO big and mature and all:cutie:, and kissed her cheek like I used to when they were babies-but she talks back now. God, it's amazing how much you love your kids.

I am SOOOO not in school mode, and we were supposed to do a unit study this week:rotfl:and math:lmao:.

My mind is on overload with all this moving stuff. STILL wiating for the mortgage broker to let my sister know if they can get the house or not.:rolleyes1Waiting patiently. Gabbi WAS going around the house yesterday asking what furniture was staying. I was mad that my sister even told her about the possibility. I mean what if she cannot get the house!!! Then who breaks her heart, ME-NOT.

Lori

I sent you a message about the Bayou Classic.. something tells me that you and your family might enjoy the battle of the bands on Friday..

And you can smile knowing that your mom loves you and wants to spend time with you in your new home city... I am sure she doesn't mean to give you the headache... or maybe she does as payback over all that drumming she had to put up with:rotfl:

I really am hoping and praying that the house works out for your sister for your and Gabbi's sake!

I am with you.. I can't wait to see how life works out for my boys... but yet the thought of my oldest going to middle school NOT next year, but the year after that makes me cry already!!! College... I don't even want to imagine it.

I can't blame you for not being able to focus on school with all that you have going on... what is your timeline for moving? (I might have missed this)

Logan's birthday is a week from Monday... I have already started to embarrass him as I do yearly.... Ten years ago today I found out that you were coming on June 14th! (His birthday is June 15th since he didn't cooperate.. stinky bug, that should have told me something about the boy then huh?) I am relenting and letting him go to scout camp for a week this summer... without me... that is his present from us this year. He is planning on buying himself an Ipod with his birthday cash. Where does all that time go?

We have to be there by December 31, 2009.

Once the house is on the market, or my sis gets it, we will start the hunt more seriously.

I am doing co-op, when I thought I was not going to, next semester, and I am doing 2 other classes outside co-op with friends. All it seems we'll have to do at home is math, latin, LA, and mind benders-oh and preparing for those classes! I am doing chronological history with the kids-it is a 4 year commitment-this year is ancient starting with creation. I think it is cool b/c it combines biblical and general history. It will include geography, writing, some art, notebooking galore, some music appreciation, and presentation. I am also doing a science class with other friends. The only thing thsat upsets me is that the spring semester I will be ON MY OWN. I like having friends along the way! Co-op will be art, Louisiana History(how ironic I am teaching it- with 2 other moms, we rotate weeks), and maybe 1 other class. I am going full fledged classical. I am excited about this.

Lori

Oh wow... Lori... so you do have some time left with us... I am glad about that :goodvibes

I am impressed with myself as I have been doing the summer schooling that I said I would do. I want to work on my kids weaker areas...but I also want them to feel like they are getting a break and so far it appears to be working. They haven't complained once this week... so yippee for small miracles. We are actually studying the Battle of New Orleans and I came up with a few pre-field trip activities. (going to the Battlefield for a picnic) Logan requested to do more than required. That floored me, but that is his interest. He is comparing and contrasting the song to the historical event, Writing a page paper on Jordan Noble, the drummer boy and making a map that recreates the British Route from Jamaica to Chalmette on a cake... Fletcher decided to go the pirate route and study Jean Lafitte's role... no shock there. :surfweb: They are also a lot more fun to be around when they have a direction to go, might have to do this next year too.

Now if only this pile of laundry would be so easy to deal with:headache:

Cara- WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sounds wonderful!! My mind isn't there yet. I AM, however, creating my planner for the upcoming school year, right now!! It'll be a binder, like we do for our WDW vacations;).

For next semester, since we are doing La history and our science is on land animals- we will be doing many NOLA field trips. I can't wait!!

You are giving me inspiration to get my hiney moving!

Update on the possible WDW trip-still not 100%. A lot depends on what in the world we'll be doing at the time and a new budget with new incomes. We are not quite where we thought we'd be, and won't go if it is even iffy, but DH said don't cancel it till we have too-he has dreams of doing RRC a few times this year! My balance is due July 30th and ADR's have to be made next week!

Lori

Lori... you inspired me to do this whole summer thing... :goodvibes so I will happily return the favor! You sound like all your ducks are in a row, and the kids will be getting a lot of learning done!

I hope that you are able to make your trip, but I can totally understand it being up in the air right now. You have a lot of variables. I would go ahead and make the ADR's just in case though.

Good Morning and Happy Friday.

Lorie prayers and good thoughts for Erik. When will you be leaving the hospital? How's the big sister doing?

Here's a not so good story of something stupid I did on our trip. Last Thursday we were watching the fireworks from our balcony and in the dark I was trying to fool with my camera. I wanted to change the setting to the fireworks scene to try and get some better shots. Anyway I started pushing buttons on I deleted all my pictures. I felt just sick to my stomach. I started crying because I was so mad at myself. I took my card back to Lakeside Camera in Mandeville where I bought the camera from. They are sending it away to try to recover the lost pictures. I had over 200 just from Disney. I don't think it looks too good because the lady tried to recover them in the store and she said she didn't see anything on my card. She's sending it off and supposedly they have a much better program at the main office. It cost $45.00 for them to try and recover the pictures but I'll get my money back if they can't help me. At least my sister was with us the whole trip and I can get a copy of all of her pictures but I still want my own.:guilty: So it might me quite a while before I can post any pictures at all.

Happy Anniversary!!!:goodvibes
Thanks! So how do you know we're becoming old married fogies?? Going out to some fancy-schmancy romantic dinner to celebrate? NOPE - we're taking the boys on a charter fishing trip. Hope the fish co-operate!

Thinking of taking the Boys to see UP tomorrow...
We took the boys last weekend. It was great! Typical of Disney-Pixar stuff, they had me sniffling when I least expected it (yea, I'm a sap). I also got a kick out of the different crowd reactions. My boys & the younger kids were laughing at the slapstick stuff, while the older crowd was guffawing at some of the geriatric humor. Squirrel! Are y'all doing the 3D version?

:lmao: about the car....my brother and I used to drum in the car on the door armrest things. My parents did not find is quite so funny...just annoying. :rotfl:
Drumming on the armrests, the back of the seats, pretty much anything! Just to think, just a few short years ago it was The Wiggles & Disney CD's....now it's Classic Rock. Any guesses how funny it is to hear an 8yo belt out Living on a Prayer, Eye of the Tiger, Aerosmith....all the stuff DH & I used to listen to?!? He's a shower-singer, too - quite the entertainer!:rotfl:

Aw, man, that's awful! Here's hoping they can retrieve your pics!

Happy Friday everyone!

Ok, so I am throwing this out there... I know we talked places to eat a while back, but I am going to go out on a limb and see if any of you jump on this! I am gonna put my dates out there, tell you I am going to only do 4 day PH's, and water parks and more(to do both water parks on 2 days). My length of stay is 6 nights starting September 13(Sunday to Saturday).... I have to book ADR's NEXT Saturday....I have no definite places I wanna go other than using only 1 credit TS meals. Ideas???? suggestions?? I normally enjoy the heck out of planning but maybe b/c no one in my family knows about this except DH and I cannot share the excitement except with you all and a couple friends going at the same time. PLUS, we have never eaten out THIS much on Disney property in 1 trip!!

Lori

Tricia, I hope you get your pictures back. I can see me doing something like erasing pictures, happening so fast.

My son comes back tomorrow. He's been at across the lake at Krewe de Camp being a counselor for kids with cerebral palsy for the past week. I really do miss him, but he calls nightly. He is having a good time and DH and I both know that he's learned a lot while there.

DD11 is going to camp on Monday- no communication at all till Friday.:guilty: Oh, well, I can send her emails. She has done it before, it is a Christian camp, and I am sure she will have a blast! In the meantime, Haley and I will have some wonderful one on one time.

Hey, is anyone reading "My Sisters Keeper"? I just started it and :sad2: not sure I'll get through it. I am interested in it though.

Lori

Hey y'all!

The pediatrician is looking at DS right now, so hopefully we'll get an all clear on him and he can come out from under the lights and we can go home! My OB said I can get a super early release because I am recovering well- now we just need good news about DS. If so, we can leave tonight! Woo hoo! Crossing my fingers....

As for Sienna, well I'll just say she's not so great. She threw the mother of all tantrums here yesterday, and DH had to take her back to MIL's house because she was behaving so badly :scared:. We've never seen her act that badly before, oh my. I'm guessing it is the staying in a new environment, new routine, not sleeping well, etc that is affecting her- I hope. She seemed pleased seeing DS, so I don't think it was him bugging her. She just acted as though she hadn't slept in a few days (MAJOR GROUCHY!!). I hope once everyone is home and settled that she'll resemble her old self again.

Hopefully the next time I check in I'll be home! Thanks again everyone for the well wishes! :grouphug:

:rotfl::lmao: On the driving. I still won't get in a car with my son and as for my daughter (who's 19), everyone has stopped trying to teach her and she still doesn't drive. Which is a probably a good thing!!

I'm enjoying my son (24) and DIL very much. And it is truly rewarding that he turned out to be pretty good kid. I credit his wife for that :lovestruc

The jury is out for now on my daughter :rolleyes1

Do y'all prefer to eat in the parks or do you like to try the resorts as well? Do you like the character stuff? I have some errands to run, I'll be back later to help.......

Thought y'all might enjoy this email from my brother:

THINGS I LEARNED LIVIN' IN Louisiana

1) A possum is a flat animal that sleeps in the middle of the road.

2) There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 of them live in Louisiana.

3) There are 10,000 types of spiders, and all 10,000 of them live in Louisiana.

4) If it grows, it'll stick ya. If it crawls, it'll bite cha.

5) "Onced" and "Twiced" are words.

6) It is not a shopping cart, it's a buggy.

7) "Jawl-P?" means, "Did y'all go to the bathroom?"

8) People actually grow and eat okra.

9) "Fixinto" is one word.

10) There is no such thing as lunch. There is only dinner and then there is supper...

11) Iced tea is appropriate for all meals, and you start drinking it when you're two. We do like a little tea with our sugar.

12) Backwards and forwards means, "I know everythin' bout you."

13) The word "jeet" is actually a phrase meaning, "Did you eat?"

14) You don't have to wear a watch, because it doesn't matter what time it is. You work until you're done or it's too dark to see...

15) You don't PUSH buttons, you MASH em.

16) You measure distance in minutes.

17) You switch from heat to A/C in the same day.

18) All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, insect, or animal.

19) You know what a "Dawg" is.

20) You carry jumper cables in your car - for your own car.

21) You only own five spices: salt, pepper, Tony Chachere's, Tabasco, and ketchup.

22) The local papers cover national and international news on one page, but require 6 pages for local gossip and LSU football....

23) You think that the first day of deer season is a national holiday.

24) You find 100 degrees "a bit warm."

25) You know all four seasons: Almost summer, summer, still summer, and Christmas.

26) Going to Walmart is a favorite past time known as "Goin' Walmartin" or "off to Wally World."

27) You describe the first cool snap (below 70 degrees) as good gumbo weather.

28) Fried catfish is the other white meat.

29) We don't need no dang Driver's Ed...If our mama says we can drive, we can drive dag-nabbit.

30) You understand these jokes and forward them to your Louisiana friends and those who just wish they were from Louisiana!!!!!

You had the nerve not to be home for a few days, so Sienna is giving you the toddler version of payback. She'll be ok after a couple of days of being home with you. Mine used to do this after DH and I took a trip.
