Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Thought y'all might enjoy this email from my brother:

THINGS I LEARNED LIVIN' IN Louisiana

1) A possum is a flat animal that sleeps in the middle of the road.

2) There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 of them live in Louisiana. we saw one yesterday!

3) There are 10,000 types of spiders, and all 10,000 of them live in Louisiana.

4) If it grows, it'll stick ya. If it crawls, it'll bite cha.

5) "Onced" and "Twiced" are words.

6) It is not a shopping cart, it's a buggy. we call it a basket

7) "Jawl-P?" means, "Did y'all go to the bathroom?" :rotfl:

8) People actually grow and eat okra.

9) "Fixinto" is one word.

10) There is no such thing as lunch. There is only dinner and then there is supper...

11) Iced tea is appropriate for all meals, and you start drinking it when you're two. We do like a little tea with our sugar. other people don't do this???

12) Backwards and forwards means, "I know everythin' bout you."

13) The word "jeet" is actually a phrase meaning, "Did you eat?" :rotfl:

14) You don't have to wear a watch, because it doesn't matter what time it is. You work until you're done or it's too dark to see... true true...

15) You don't PUSH buttons, you MASH em. :goodvibes

16) You measure distance in minutes.

17) You switch from heat to A/C in the same day. :)

18) All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, insect, or animal.

19) You know what a "Dawg" is.

20) You carry jumper cables in your car - for your own car. why else would you carry them?

21) You only own five spices: salt, pepper, Tony Chachere's, Tabasco, and ketchup.

22) The local papers cover national and international news on one page, but require 6 pages for local gossip and LSU football....

23) You think that the first day of deer season is a national holiday.

24) You find 100 degrees "a bit warm."

25) You know all four seasons: Almost summer, summer, still summer, and Christmas.

26) Going to Walmart is a favorite past time known as "Goin' Walmartin" or "off to Wally World."

27) You describe the first cool snap (below 70 degrees) as good gumbo weather.

28) Fried catfish is the other white meat.

29) We don't need no dang Driver's Ed...If our mama says we can drive, we can drive dag-nabbit.

30) You understand these jokes and forward them to your Louisiana friends and those who just wish they were from Louisiana!!!!!

Hey y'all!

The pediatrician is looking at DS right now, so hopefully we'll get an all clear on him and he can come out from under the lights and we can go home! My OB said I can get a super early release because I am recovering well- now we just need good news about DS. If so, we can leave tonight! Woo hoo! Crossing my fingers....

As for Sienna, well I'll just say she's not so great. She threw the mother of all tantrums here yesterday, and DH had to take her back to MIL's house because she was behaving so badly :scared:. We've never seen her act that badly before, oh my. I'm guessing it is the staying in a new environment, new routine, not sleeping well, etc that is affecting her- I hope. She seemed pleased seeing DS, so I don't think it was him bugging her. She just acted as though she hadn't slept in a few days (MAJOR GROUCHY!!). I hope once everyone is home and settled that she'll resemble her old self again.

Hopefully the next time I check in I'll be home! Thanks again everyone for the well wishes! :grouphug:

I am glad things are going so well with Erik and yourself. She'll be better when you are home. Congrats Lorie!

TGIF!

Lorie - my fingers are crossed for Erik to get a okay. :)

Tricia - i have done that as well.

Man I wish I was back at Disney....missing that turkey drumstick. :rotfl:

You had the nerve not to be home for a few days, so Sienna is giving you the toddler version of payback. She'll be ok after a couple of days of being home with you. Mine used to do this after DH and I took a trip.

That's sounds about right! When she unleashed the fury :rotfl:, I looked at DH and said "who's child is this? certainly not mine...." :lmao:

Ugh, just got the news from the ped- back under the lights he goes, at least until this afternoon. :guilty: I am discharged as of this afternoon, but I can stay overnight with him until he can come home tomorrow (they say they see no reason that he couldn't come home tomorrow, but for the rest of today, he needs to be under the lights.) The ped is supposed to come talk to me soon and ease my mind about all of this.

Do y'all prefer to eat in the parks or do you like to try the resorts as well? Do you like the character stuff? I have some errands to run, I'll be back later to help.......

A little of both I guess!
I am open for anything this trip- just know my kids are traditional American picky eaters. Ash will get chicken tenders wherever she goes and MAY try something else if there are no other choices. In fact, I'd LOVE to get her off this kick!

Lori

Lori, have ya'll ever tried Whispering Canyon? This restaurant was a lot of fun and the food was really good too.

T-Rex Cafe has good food too and I love the atmosphere there. We met some friends there (they suggested it), and I was pleasantly surprised. DS says he had some of the best BBQ ribs there he's ever had.

Lorie - I apologize, I totally missed your earlier post about Sienna and Erik. It sounds like she's overwhelmed and very tired, things will be much better when you're all home. Prayers being said that Erik can go home today.

Lori - I'm going to make a list of my favorite 1 TS places, but keep in mind I've never planned for kiddos.;)

Lori - Places that I've been to and can recommend are:

MK - The Plaza
DHS - Sci-Fi
EPCOT - Biergarten, Chefs de France and LeCellier

ESPN Club & Spoodles at the Boardwalk, 'Ohana at the Poly, Grand Floridian Cafe at the GF, Wolfgang Puck Cafe and Raglan Road at DTD.

Places I really want to try are Yak & Yeti at AK, Mama Melrose at DHS, Rose & Crown and Tokyo Dining at EPCOT, The Wave at the Contemporary and T-Rex at DTD.

I am happy that they are confident that Erik can come home tomorrow. I will take that as news that his levels are dropping.

Sienna has a lot going on right now, poor girl. She will be okay though
Good Morning and Happy Friday.

Lorie prayers and good thoughts for Erik. When will you be leaving the hospital? How's the big sister doing?

Here's a not so good story of something stupid I did on our trip. Last Thursday we were watching the fireworks from our balcony and in the dark I was trying to fool with my camera. I wanted to change the setting to the fireworks scene to try and get some better shots. Anyway I started pushing buttons on I deleted all my pictures. I felt just sick to my stomach. I started crying because I was so mad at myself. I took my card back to Lakeside Camera in Mandeville where I bought the camera from. They are sending it away to try to recover the lost pictures. I had over 200 just from Disney. I don't think it looks too good because the lady tried to recover them in the store and she said she didn't see anything on my card. She's sending it off and supposedly they have a much better program at the main office. It cost $45.00 for them to try and recover the pictures but I'll get my money back if they can't help me. At least my sister was with us the whole trip and I can get a copy of all of her pictures but I still want my own.:guilty: So it might me quite a while before I can post any pictures at all.

OH NO!!! That is my worst nightmare:scared1: I hope that they are able to recover some of your pictures. If not, I am glad your sister will be able to come to the rescue.

Ok, so I am throwing this out there... I know we talked places to eat a while back, but I am going to go out on a limb and see if any of you jump on this! I am gonna put my dates out there, tell you I am going to only do 4 day PH's, and water parks and more(to do both water parks on 2 days). My length of stay is 6 nights starting September 13(Sunday to Saturday).... I have to book ADR's NEXT Saturday....I have no definite places I wanna go other than using only 1 credit TS meals. Ideas???? suggestions?? I normally enjoy the heck out of planning but maybe b/c no one in my family knows about this except DH and I cannot share the excitement except with you all and a couple friends going at the same time. PLUS, we have never eaten out THIS much on Disney property in 1 trip!!

Lori
Can't help like everyone else, but we are doing Chef Mickey's and Sci-Fi Dine In Theatre.

Ones I would love to try, but not on this trip: Ohana's, Yak and Yeti, California Grill, Beaches N Cream, Fultons Crab Shack

DD11 is going to camp on Monday- no communication at all till Friday.:guilty: Oh, well, I can send her emails. She has done it before, it is a Christian camp, and I am sure she will have a blast! In the meantime, Haley and I will have some wonderful one on one time.

Hey, is anyone reading "My Sisters Keeper"? I just started it and :sad2: not sure I'll get through it. I am interested in it though.

Lori

You are a brave woman! NO WAY could I even try to read that book:sad2: hits way too close to home and I don't like to cry! Kelly hasn't needed a bone marrow transplant, but there was talk between my parents to try to have another child to produce a match to her (Me and my other sister are exact matches however, which has created some interesting issues in itself) but in the end decided not to go that route.

Enjoy your one on one time with Haley! I am sure your camper will be having a blast!

Thanks for all the help!

Love WCC!!! would love to do it again! I think the kids would like the T-Rex place-is that DDP?

Sci- fi is one we love too!, maybe Ohana, and getting le Cellier would be cool(would my kids like ti??)
yak n yeti sounds fun, but I always here good things about Flame Tree BBQ too.(never been)

I guess i have some opinion :lmao:huh???

Ohana seems to be a favorite, I am gonna try that one!

Thankfully neither had Ashton, and we DID talk about a 3rd kid during that time in case Haley wasn't a match- sounds sick maybe, but we wanted a 3rd anyway, just not then, then we had 2 relapse scares(false, obviously!).
The child in this story was genetically made up to BE a match for her sister.
In the end we decided not to even have Haley tested, b/c we were "going there" in our heart and heads if we didn't have too, plus why put Haley through that-she was so tiny and sweet and I just couldn't go there unless it was necessary. But yes, the thought crossed our minds. One of those moments when the lines blur when it comes to stem cell research!

Lori

You really can't go wrong with 'Ohana. LeCellier books extremely fast, maybe someone has taken the kiddos there and could advise on that. As far as FlameTree it's a CS not a TS and personally we don't care for it so Y&Y would be my TS option there!

I just wanted to share this with ya'll: Husband and I are booked at the Coronado Springs from 9/24-28 for our 20th wedding anniversary!!:cool1: I am very excited about it. We are going to be there for Food and Wine Fest, so if any of you have any helpful hints, I'd apprectiate it.

How awesome, I'm so excited for you!!!! We're dying to try CSR, hope y'all like it. Did I give you a link to Brenda's thread? The F&W info is always talked about there and they pretty much have the scoop on anything F&W. Here it is in case I didn't give it to ya:

I am not sure that the T-Rex is on the dining plan. I thought it was only on the Deluxe Dining Plan like Rainforest Cafe.

My parents were looking into genetically making a match. In the end, it was decided that they didn't want a fifth child. We were tested because the Doctor felt there wouldn't be enough time to look for donors should she have relapsed. None of us matched Kelly, however Amy and I are 100% matches so we now both have wills written up to give each other the right to any and all organs and tissues that might be needed at the time. How morbid is that? We do remind each other to take care of our "spares" all the time. That of course is not knowledge that most people have or ever need to know.

Tricia, I hope you get your pictures back. I can see me doing something like erasing pictures, happening so fast.

My son comes back tomorrow. He's been at across the lake at Krewe de Camp being a counselor for kids with cerebral palsy for the past week. I really do miss him, but he calls nightly. He is having a good time and DH and I both know that he's learned a lot while there.

I think I saw a sign for that today. I was coming home from Sam's Club in Slidell and I took the back way (hwy 90) and as we were passing Fontainebleau State Park they had a sign out front. I had no idea what it was for but it had a big fleur de lis that caught my eye. How nice of him to help out. I'm sure it's a good learning experience for all teens.

I'm excited for you. Mark and I will make 20 years in October and I want to get away for a long weekend. Since just last week we were at Disney I'm not thinking we'll be back any time soon. Have a great trip. I'm sure the Food and Wine Fest will be great.

Not good news about my pictures. :guilty: The card came back empty. They weren't able to retrieve any of my pictures. I just feel sick to my stomach over this.

Lorie I'm sure Sienna will be fine once the four of you are back in your own home. You have to remember her routine is messed up right now and she's probably just missing you and Todd. Good luck to Erik. I hope the jaundice is getting better and he'll be coming home tomorrow.

Tricia - I'm so sorry the pictures are lost. Thankfully you'll have your sister's to make copies from and still have some nice vacation memories, so all is not lost.

 I'm so sorry. My camera had a problem on my June 2005 trip and I lost a lot of photos and it hurts.

Tricia, I was so hoping you would say that they salvaged the pictures. Sorry:hug:

good to know. I am gonna lookinto it then. i just always heard good things about it.

Tricia-I am soooooooooooooooooooo sorry. This would hurt:sick:ouch!

Cara- I find this smarter than being like me and just having the little donor heart on my license. As a healthcare worker, I have heard NOT to specify being a donor, but I soooo want to do it when my time comes. My hubby knows, so maybe in Texas, if and when I change my license, I will not specify. I think it is funny that you and your sister tell each other that!

I am SO glad we didn't have to go there! (testing for matches)
