Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

I think I mentioned the daughter-in-law of a friend who had the tragic accident. She was visiting here from California, tripped in the backyard, hit her head on a brick wall, and was on life support for 2 weeks. She finally let go on Friday. My friend's son (late husband of the woman who just died) was electrocuted in a freak backyard accident 6 years ago. It is just heartbreaking for the 3 children who have lost their parents to such horrible backyard accidents. The youngest is 13 and the oldest is 20.

My prayers for that poor family, so tragic.:grouphug:

Not a drop of rain all day!:flower3:

I TOLD you, it's just our luck lately, but it's okay, it POURED over here, even hailed in Mandeville.

6kay, so I do NOT scrapbook ,except my vacations. My goal is to get stuff off of my SD cards and onto a disk. I keep them on my laptop for a while, then back them up again on my external hard drive.

Last years WDW trip will not be scrapbooked, but it will be in a Disney photo album, old style-a bunch of 4x6's in little sleeves. There IS room for notation though!

It cost me $35 with S&H to get 225 pictures printed up and mailed. I had 25 pics free and got 200 for $20-S&H was $15!!! I need to get them done at a place that I can pick them up.

Anyway- almost completely packed for Destin, gotta get up early for testing.

Oh and I signed Ash up for Jr Cotillion! I am excited about this!! it is for next school year.

DH and I decided since we have gotten no call to just move on and plan our lives as normal...I can no longer speculate what is going on and we need to move forward.

It's been raining ALL DAY here - but pretty lightly. I saw your radar. :scared: I have not yet seen New Orleans rain. Every time they said it was gonna rain when I was there, it went somewhere else or dissipated. :confused3 My DH was joking about our rain today saying "wow all the rain...it's like New Orleans!" (he knows its not) and I said "well I hear it rains MUCH HARDER than this, but I really have NO IDEA because it's always 70 and sunny when I'm there!" :confused3
I moved to CA in the late 70s during a 2 year drought. I'd heard for years about the "rainy" season. I moved away and didn't go back until the late 80s - again in a drought. So I'd never seen this mythical rainy season that I'd heard of for a decade.

Finally we get a "rainy" year - what whimps! Just a slight sprinkle - no umbrella or raincoat needed. The yearly rain fall is about 10 inches. We get that in New Orleans in a good afternoon. I told my friends there that I never wanted to hear about this "rainy" season again.

In New Orleans you get these drops the size of saucers that beat down on you like a drum. You can be soaked to the skin in seconds. Water will be above the ankles in no time.

Thanks for the condolences for my friend's loss (daughter-in-law). My housekeeper is also dealing with a loss that could happen any day. Her daughter (in her 20s with 2 children) has lung cancer that has spread everywhere. It is just so sad. They are such good people.

arminnie: so sorry for your friend and housekeeper... that is such a loss to those children.

Well, my mother called tonight and said she had a wonderful time, however, she could tell exactly where Disney was cutting corners. She commented that instead of looking for hidden mickey's that was the game that they played... being local and visiting since Disney opened, she spots that kind of thing straight away.... a few of them made me laugh, and some worried me for our upcoming trip.. But she did have a great time, loved the Wilderness Lodge, said she wants to try POFQ next time... so phew... with my mom, you never know how that is gonna go

You guys remain in my prayers.

Oh no, so sad, adding them to my prayer list.

Ugly gloomy Monday morning here, stay safe everyone.:grouphug:

Good Morning ladies...

Yes its a very nasty morning. Be safe.

Hugs and prayers to everyone.

Ok, time for me to focus on our trip which is in 3 weeks. Ladies this will be our 1st time being on the meal plan so can you please give me some pointers?

Have a good day.

I'm home sick today. (Yes, again...never in my life have I been as sick as living here!)

June 30...4:30pm...arrive at MSY! :woohoo:

Morning Y'all,

Very yucky out there this morning. Everyone be careful driving!

TriciaII, I am so sorry for your friend's family. How tragic. :sad1:

I'm glad you're Dad is feeling well!:goodvibes

Tricia, Loved the pics! What a great looking family you have! The girls look like they had a lot of fun. Your fruit kabobs looked so pretty, that I thought you ordered one of those bouquets. :thumbsup2

portocall, You are a very generous daughter! Not a coo-yon at all! Glad she had a nice time, Wilderness Lodge is one of the places I'd love to stay. I am sad to hear she could see more evidence of cutbacks.

Kat, We were sad about Talamo not being able to race. Have you booked rests. for your Oct trip yet? Still planning on FF on Sat? I have to start booking a few things. I can't seem to get into it this time. Worrying & wondering how I am going to be feeling after surgery.

Bethany, I'm glad you will be getting out of that apt. soon! I think that it and stress are making you sick.

 No tax on clothes in NYC?? I don't know if she knows that! I'll texted her just in case. I hope the weather is clearing up over there, they have tickets for baseball tomorrow.

Bob & I did (sort of) make it to the Air Show yesterday. We drove out to Engineers Road & parked in an empty parking lot. We were able to see great & avoid the crowds! We went out there about one, saw several stunt flyers, The Raptor & the Blue Angels. Stayed out long enough for DH to get a mean sunburn on his face.

Can't book until July, they're back to booking at 90 days. We're still planning on FF for Saturday, we'd love to have y'all join us!:goodvibes

Hey guys!

Had a great time camping.. canoing was a ball.. just long with
the kiddo, he didnt understand why we didnt get out and swim. Asked about every 5 minutes.
Ummm we dont swim with snakes sweetie.

Of course I leave for a cpl of days and my parents fall apart.

Daddy ( 83) fell while out on a walk Sat and had to be taken to the ER. Not sure why he fell but all checked out ok Mom said they did every test they could and didnt see anything neurological thank God. He is banged up and bruised and sore , but seems ok.

On Friday Mom ( 67) had to go to Dr.. ( daddy drove :scared1:)
because she could barely walk because of pain in one leg.
They checked her for blockage in her legs.. Thank goodness none found. They think it is a femoral nerve problem. She is still in lots of pain today even after meds. She is going to try to get in tomorrow to the Dr. and ill take her.
Daddy does still drive just fine, but with the fall he is going to back off a while to make sure it wont happen again. Thank goodness he isnt too stubborn about this kind of stuff.

This is my first step into having aging parents I guess.
With my mom so much younger she has always taken care of Daddy.. not that he needs much care. Just driving at night and a bit of babying .. but the spoiling part has been a life long thing .

With both of them down and out for now, I have now had a glimpse into the future of what it will be like as an only child... and I dont mean to wanting someone to share the work with I can deal happily with that.. but someone to share the mental stuff with. I was a mess when I heard about Daddy and while Chad is sympathetic and caring, I imagine it would be really nice to have a sibling to cry with.

Any way I know this is just a temporary thing for now, but prob. really do need to start getting myself mentally prepared for the day they both need my help. They always assume Daddy will pass before Mom and he prob will, but My Dad's family tends to live into their late 90's with a pretty good quality of life.
Guess the next chapter in my life will be starting anytime now.

Ok enough about me!!!

Im going to check up on what the rest of you crazy folks did over the weekend.

Hey y'all!

Tricia- What a sad story...prayers for that family and your housekeeper.
I'm still reeling from the Miss Kitty Bridesmaid Dress thread...:rotfl2: That dress was super special! :rotfl:

Terry- My best suggestion for the dining plan is to use your snack credits wisely so you're not stuck with a bunch leftover at the end of your trip. We use our snack credits for breakfast- you can use snack credits for pastries, bagels, cereal/milk, and fruit bowls. We're not usually too hungry between meals for real snacks, but there is a huge variety that you can use the snack credits for (smoothies, iced cappuccino, Dole whips, pastries from France in Epcot- the list goes on and on!) Have fun planning- so exciting! :cool1:

Bethany- Hope you feel better!

ETA: Jenny, just saw your post- how scary! Both parents fall apart in one weekend- so sorry you're having to go through this!

Is it October that you are going? I need a trip to F&W - haven't been in a few years and need a trip.

I do have a wedding to go to in Austin. My best friend's (ex roommate from college) is getting married Oct. 10th.

Jenny, I've been there, I know exactly what you're feeling. Please feel free to call anytime. It's extremely tough my friend.

Kat, They went back to 90 days! I thought they had reverted back to 180. We would like to get together with you & Johnny and we love FF too! I want to book that with y'all, but since we won't have the F&W event schedule ( probably not out until late August) I hope you won't be offended if we end up bailing on you for some special F&W event. They make it so hard not coming out with that sooner. I'm hoping we can get together for dinner & if not at least have drinks together.

Tricia, We are going from the Oct 15th -21st.

Of course I won't be offended, I know how the F&W event scheduling messes with everything. Don't forget I'll be dropping off a bottle of Rosa to be chilled in your frig.:goodvibes If nothing else we'll be at the BC for Brenda's shindig with y'all!

I didn't have to go in to work after testing today, but tomorrow I do.

Been trying to get back into working out again. I feel some energy, although not near what i used to have:laughing: even a year ago!

My kids are now Nano-fied! I may never hear from them again! They saved for months and finally were able to get an Ipod nano. I downloaded some songs for them and heeeheeee, I am gonna use these things to my benefit by adding school stuff to it next school year! I have been reading some boards about how homeschool moms are using ipods to thier advantage:thumbsup2

Now I am the only one in my family w/out some sort of ipod:eek:-but I am VERY happy with my ZenVplus. PLus IF my hubby winds up with an iPhone, I will snag his iTouch!

Haley is actually loving the peter Pan soundtrack above all the other stuff she has on there- she just told me it makes her wanna go back to WDW!!

I cannot book ADR's till June 13th I think. I will book them! I wanna be prepared even if it has to be cancelled.;) I have high hopes!

kind of know what you are dealing with, although my parents were much younger. they took turns being severely sick. and even though I have siblings, they were either not available or not interested in helping. which I think hurt even more. you have a lot of "sisters" here.

I hope they will get better and do well for many, many more years - but don't fret too much about not having siblings. In the end it may save you countless heartaches by being disappointed in how little some siblings seem to care about their parents.

I hope I don't sound too cynical here. It's just that I've found that most of the time one sibling will step up to the plate while the others pretend that nothing is wrong.
