Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

When we landed yesterday in NY, some kid's toy went all the way from the back of the plane to the front down the aisle. Everybody was laughing.

The hardest landing I've ever had was into Denver back when I lived there. I forget where I was coming from, but about 30 minutes out from the airport, the pilot comes on and announces that "When we land, you're going to see fire trucks and ambulances along the runway. Those are for us." He went on to tell us that those things on the wings that go up to help slow the plane down were broken, and so we were going to land hard and fast. If we were to pop a tire on landing, we'd probably catch fire as we skidded along the runway, so they reviewed the safety card information with us. That was a LONG 30 minutes as we approached the airport and I was so scared. We DID approach the runway faster than normal, and did land really hard (didn't bounce though!) but we did NOT need those emergency services that were lined up along the runway. :cool1:

Those false starts and landings are no fun either...where you're about to take off and they slam on the brakes, or about to land and then they pull up really sharp and fast. :scared:

Glad I have NO plans to fly anywhere anytime soon! My next trip is to Boston and that is on the Amtrak. (That's another issue in itself...) and then after that is most likely a road trip in a Uhaul to New Orleans in July. (Hopefully.)

I had the WORST landing of a plane a couple of years ago,and I've literally flown 100s of thousands of miles around the world. I swear we bounced 20 feet back off the runway. We hit bone-jarring hard on landing.

The plane was very quiet until we hit so hard, and there was a loud "swear word". The whole plane laughed. (and it was me who normally never even uses mild swear words).

I was so afraid that I would shout "Oh s _ _ _!":rotfl: There was only 1 other flight that came close. We flew back from Mt. Tremblant a couple of years ago right into 2 storms -1 from the East and 1 from the West that met up somewhere. The plane shook from side to side and up and down. It was at night and didn't frighten me as much as Monday's flight did.
I swear if we had had to walk on the tarmac, I would have kissed the ground!

Maybe I won't send the letter. I'd hate for anyone to lose their job. He was just such a wet blanket and so rude.

Send a letter if it will make you feel better, we pretty much know what Disney does with those letters anyhow... I am actually freaking out about going in November. I mean, of all the times to take a first family WDW vacation, I pick a time where they are doing tons of cuts and layoffs! I used to live so close and went so often in my younger days (1978-1997) that I am able to spot the cuts in service right away, but it is my kids vacation and doubt they can. The crowds also have me nervous... even though I love fighting the crowds at Disney, there is a point where even for me it is too much. Believe it or not, I can't stand going to an empty park, I can't relax and it makes me nervous, as if Disney is gonna go out of business...:confused3

Happy Hump day ladies!

It sure is a beautiful morning...Whew.

Okay I am on the line with WDW now trying to book our trip. Man the discount Lorie directed me to is saving me loads of money!!! I am getting a room, free dining and 4 day tickets for us for the price of what the room only would cost!!!!! :woohoo::woohoo:

That is great news!

We went two months ago, and stayed at Portofino. Front of the line access is worth every penny. I loved the hotel. I could have just stayed there all day, but I enjoyed the parks just as much.

I also want to go when Harry Potter opens:cool1:

We are going to do a Universal trip only once Harry Potter opens. I am so glad my sister is expecting, now I have a reason to head home more often... I am glad to hear good things about the Portofino...

Good Morning NOLA! (Or, what's left of the morning....I've basically slept since I got back to NYC. oops. :lmao:)

The weather is PERFECT for sleeping. Overcast, chilly (48 but "feels like 41"), and raining ice pellets. I think I'll stay inside and not find out what 41 "feels like" since I've forgotten and don't care to be reminded. :rotfl:

Rie'smom - sorry your trip was so crowded. That can be so frustrating. My DH keeps saying he's not going back to Disney until I'll go to Universal and Sea World also. I've never been to the Florida ones....so I guess next trip I'll be going to them, especially since without them there may not BE a next trip! :lmao: Next trip is looking like 2011, MAYBE 2010 if we're lucky.

Good Morning Bethany!

I have been to the Sea World and Universal Studios in both Orlando and California... there isn't really a big difference between the two... there is a much bigger difference in Disneyland vs Magic Kingdom. Of course, LA didn't have Islands of Adventure.. but neither did Orlando at the time.

I think this is angst from the layoffs. The ARE laying off 1900 park employees (DH saw that# on some business sight-google finance or something)

Me too! I heard this was not opening till '11 now. Is that true??

I have never stayed anyplace except Disney, GKTW and a dinky little Howard Johnson in Kissimmee for 2 nights added on to the end of MAW trip at GKTW. If we had known then what we know now, we'd have called and stayed on property, but the founder of GKTW owns a bunch of hotels in Kissimmee and we stayed at one of his for like $35 a night or something! It was a FAR cry from the week we had previously at GKTW!!!

Still nuthin from DH's old boss, patiently waiting....
this is one of those thngs that will be God's timing and not our own. Sometimes I feel He can take His time.:guilty:But I guess that is His perogative(sp?) right?? All in His timing... this is a hard lesson for us,b/c we keep getting tested in it!;)

L

We used attend parties at GKTW so when it came time for my sis to make her wish it was to go to GKTW... mainly to stay at Kids Village... it was a blast, but we had one family who had to stay at the Red Roof Inn because they were out of rooms... I still feel bad for that family all these years later. They came to Kids Village to eat, swim, fish, and play, but then had to go back to that dinky motel. The owner was very nice, and he used to dress like the rabbit.

I understand those lessons in patience... I get tested often in that skill as well.

Um... I don't want to fly ever again after these stories:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

Don't ya know, I have more....

And I figure that if I can't get a job at Insta-gator Ranch, I could be one of those people that fly planes into the hurricane eye walls to get the data. :scared1: And if that doesn't work out, I could be one of those people that drive around the Great Plains looking for tornadoes to chase. :scared:

So my husband has been going through the apartment today, making a list of furniture. He thinks we can get a 10' truck. I'm not so sure of that. He is capitalizing on the fact that I'm a pack rat but also a weebit lazy when it comes to moving things, so he's trying to get rid of a LOT because he doesn't know when the next opportunity for that will be. :rotfl:

Did you see the note my brother (Kyle) left me on my wall on Facebook?!? :lmao: He won't let the secret out this time....but he WILL post it on the wall. :rotfl2: And yes, he really does talk like that. :confused3

You are quoting me!

I had a horrible trip to WDW about 15 years ago. It was the year that Boardwalk Inn opened. I was staying there about 3 months after opening.

I have never had such horrible service or seen such bad staff. One example: two CMs were having a horrible fight - yelling the worst of the swear words at each other loudly. Of course I had my 10 year old niece with me who heard it all.

It just went on and on. Room service forgot to bring silverware - and NEVER brought any after multiple phone calls (polite too as I had a little one with me). All of my problems though were at the Boardwalk and hotel, not in the parks.

I've never had anything like that since. I figured it was just because it was so new, and that no one was trained. May you never have another not so great trip.

So if I'm finding things in the kitchen that expired in 2004, 2005, and 2007, do you think that's a sign that I need to clean out the cupboards on a more frequent basis? :lmao:

I did not even live here in 2004. :confused3

I used some soy sauce on some sushi the other day. I noticed (after eating) that the bottle had 98 cents stamped on the top.

How long has it been since grocery stores stamped a price on the top of a bottle? And I think a bottle of soy sauce costs way more than 98 cents now.

Prayers for Sheryl please -

She's not coping and is freaked out about possibly having to have the surgery sooner rather than later. She is waiting to hear from her doctor as to whether she can still "schedule" it or if it has to be done soon. She sends her love to you all.

Stamped?? :confused3 I have not known a grocery store to stamp prices on things. They do still put price stickers on things here.

Prayers for Sheryl please -

 Thanks for keeping us updated about her. Send her some love back.

Don't feel bad. When we cleaned out our cupboard this past Feb, we found things that expired way back in 1998. Expiration dates are just a suggestion, right:confused3

That's what my husband said! :lmao: He goes "Oh, it's not an expiration date. It says 'BEST BY Aug 07' so maybe it's still okay. It just won't be it's BEST." :rotfl2:

But 1998? :rotfl: Shoot...since 98 I've lived in 8 places! :faint:

I've decided not to have the ruptured implants removed because I really have not had any problems and don't want to undergo a 3 hour surgery if not totally necessary.

What are y'all's dates? I can help you with a touring plan if you want me to do that. I'd have to wait until closer to Sept/Oct. I could send you the best days for each park when that info is released too.

After working two inaugural sailings, I never ever want to go to a new hotel/resort/cruise ship.... I prefer not to be the guinea pig and pay for the privilege. It take about 6 months to work out most of the kinks, and by a year, it should be a smooth sailing...

I've been so worried about her. I will keep her in my prayers.

Thanks for the info Kathy. I too have been worried about Sheryl and miss her very much. :guilty: Prayers sent her way.

Somebody restrain me from buying plane tickets. I've got friends from Washington, Texas, and around southeast Louisiana that are converging on New Orleans this upcoming weekend. And I'M NOT THERE. :headache:

At least my friend said she'd "think about me" as she got her beignets.

I know Sheryl is worried. But I do have a success story to relate. My cousin (a chiropractor of all things) had terrible problems with his back and even had a couple of surgeries. He was in constant pain.

But 2-3 years ago he had one more - as new techniques and surgery became available , and he is pain free now. He can even ride his motorcycle. I think he just turned 50.

Sure enough, prayers and .

I don't blame you for not wanting to undergo an unnecessary surgery... I wouldn't mess with it either...

November 21-26... we are going the Saturday before Thanksgiving and leaving around noon Thanksgiving day to have dinner with my local family so I would really love that! Thanks so much!
