Becoming a nurse is not an easy road - it takes a lot of work. I know, because I have 2 friends that have a daughter that have/are going down that road. One daughter just graduated in May and is now an ICU nurse and the other daughter will graduate next year. My DD21 is going to school to become a Doctor of Occupational Therapy and had to take many of the same classes as nursing students, and they were definitely a challenge. Nurses deserve a lot more respect than what they get. They give so much to their patients in so many ways. So, to all the DIS nurses - thank you! So today….lets brag about the nurses in our family. Maybe you’re a nurse, and you can brag about yourself. So tell us today……

Are you a nurse?
Do you have a nurse in your family?
If yes….who?
(multiple choice)

For Me…..I am not a nurse and I have no nurses in my family. I have nurses on my mind because my DD21 is friends with my friends daughter who’s going to nursing school, and they recently got together before my DD leaves to start grad school. They’ve been friends for about 10 years - they were teammates. Another reason they are on my mind, is because my mom recently went to the ER and had a wonderful experience there because of how awesome the nurses were - they treated her very well and I’m very grateful.

My youngest bonus daughter is a sophomore in college in the nursing program. She took a pre-med program this summer. We will see what happens over the next few years but I would expect her to graduate with a plan to either be a nurse or doctor, it has been her dream since she was little.

No nurses in my family but I know someone currently going to school to be a nurse and my coworker’s wife is a nurse my boss wife was a nurse ( she’s deceased) and his daughter in law is a nurse - lot of hard work lot of hours not enough respect for all the things they know and do - my opinion ymmv ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Ds3 is a nurse. Very proud of him. Getting into nursing school here is beyond competitive. He had to go to cc and get his aa in general studies and then got a scholarship to the nursing program. They also chose him to promote the nursing program because he is photogenic. We all thought that was funny. He was on a billboard, magazine cover, a bus stop ad and on the side of the bus! Wild. He’s still on something outside the cc campus closer to us.
He then got bs online and did np in adult and family nursing. He liked intensive care. Now works with the hospital drs in internal medicine.
He helps me so much during all my health issues.
Now I have been dx with breast cancer so I know he’ll be by my side too. Not to mention he likes fmla lol. He’s a treasure!!

I’ve been a nurse since 1983! I began as a licensed practical nurse then went back and got my degree and became a registered nurse a couple years later. I’ve seen a lot of changes over the years.
My great aunt Alta was an ER nurse. I became a candy stripper volunteer at the hospital she worked at when I was 15. My favorite teacher taught anatomy and physiology and had been a US Army nurse. She recommended I consider the same. I took the ASVAB placement and was accepted to join the US Navy like my dad but decided not to because of a stupid boy. I would have been retired by now!
My mom was a nursing assistant. She trained to work in an office and did that for years but hate it. She and a friend decided to take a free course at the Red Cross when I was volunteering there in high school. She found a job as a CNA in a nursing home and eventually went to work at the local hospital on the maternity ward. My career has included long stints in young adult rehab for spinal cord and brain injuries, oncology and hospice. I’m no longer physically able to do heavy physical nursing. I am now a certified case manager for an insurance company. It’s a great career path!

Two nieces (sisters) who are nurses, my BFF is a nurse and there are another half a dozen, at least, in our extended family and friends circles. :flower3: God bless them every one.

My youngest daughter is an RN. She enrolled in a nursing program that was geared to candidates who have already received a bachelor's degree in an unrelated major. She enrolled in the nursing program when she had two young kids at home. Her husband was supportive, and she made it through in two years. We are as proud as could be of her achievements. She now has an administrative job, overseeing the ICU at her hospital.

I have much respect for anyone in the profession. I think it’s one of the hardest jobs out there. In hindsight, it’s a career I should have considered for myself, but wasn’t really exposed to know much about when I was young. Have no family members, but a few friends in the field.

DDiL is a wonderful nurse!

I had wonderful care from nurses during my HIPEC operation and days in the hospital! Thank God for nurses!

My aunt was a nurse. She went back to school later in life when her kids were teens and after a hard divorce. My grandfather, being a pediatrician, was very supportive to help my aunt with school etc. She ended up doing very well and being highly regarded at the hospital she worked at. She loved being on the geriatric floor to bring those patients her joyous personality.

I also dated someone who's a nurse so they've been all over in my life at different points.

My cousin ended up being an occupational therapist and knew the struggles her mother had.
