Kristina - It sure sounds like gallbladder to me. I don't know WHY gallbaldder problems can be so hard to diagnose.
I went to ER (decade ago) thinking I was having a heart attack - middle of the night ambulance. A friend died at 47 by not calling for help so I am kind of spooky about this. (Stacy was went with me on my very first trip to WDW in 1980). They kept me a few hours, determined my heart was okay and sent me home. Said they didn't know what it was.
A little over a year later I was visiting in Little Rock (before I moved back here).
Day 1 - I felt horrible chest and back pains, called ambulance, went to ER. Got nitroclycerin and was dismissed.
Day 2 - I am back to ER (by car) in horrible pain - I get phenergan and get sent home.
Day 3 - I go get my haircut and my hairdresser tells me it is my gallbladder. I pay no attention to her as I have no clue even where my gallbladder is or what the symptoms are.
Day 4 - Back to ER - AGONY, AGONY, AGONY. They keep me (in AGONY have I mentioned) for about 6 hours. Meanwhile telling my dad and sister that there is nothing wrong with me and maybe they need to get a psychiatrist as I am obviously making this all up as nothing is wrong with me. I am also bright yellow from the bile.
I finally BEG them to do a sonogram (based on my hairdresser's diagnosis) and guess what - I had a hugely inflamed gallbladder with several stones in the bile duct. By this time it was Friday afternoon - I was kept in the hospital (transferred to another) and didn't get surgery until Tuesday. The delays caused all sorts of problems.
It is really not a horrible surgery these days IF DONE PROPERLY. I know a guy who mowed his grass about 3 days later.
My advice is you have gallbladder problems is to get rid of it. It doesn't really get better. It usually is not an emergency like mine was and can be often be managed for a few months before surgery.
