I wish I knew what DD was thinking- it would makes things so much easier! But I do suspect she's afraid of being replaced when the "new model" comes in- hopefully she'll realize her very important place as the oldest, the big sister, soon enough.

Seriously. I did not sleep well last night due to all the commotion. My windows are double-hung, and the one by my bed is not working correctly. The top part won't stay closed, and I'm directly above the building entrance (6 floors up, but it sounds like they're right outside) so I hear EVERYTHING!

The police were here though because my neighbor called the city to report that he was "illegally locked out of his apartment." (Thin walls...) The police came ... like an HOUR or so later... and they knock on the door and his WIFE opens the door....she'd been inside the whole time! The cops were like "yo...you gotta work this out between you two!"

We'll likely end up on the Westbank. I looked at apartments in Gretna. Cara (portocall) helped me. Just waiting until Monday...I should know on Monday. *tries to wait patiently*

My friend was looking at apartments and asked for my help. They all look THE SAME. She ended up deciding on a 1 bedroom...cost? $380. WTH?!? Maybe I should move to small-town Virginia. Or not....

New Orleans French Quarter - Questions

We took a day trip to the French Quarter Wednesday. It's been awhile since we've ventured out past the Aquarium.

Parked at the Riverwalk whale wall and ended up at the French Market. We took the streetcar back up to the Aquarium. Decided to eat at the Riverwalk food court because that's what we were familiar with.

While walking through the French Quarter, I noticed alot of restaurants and cafes. We'd like to go back again soon, so I'd like to know what your favorite restaurants are to help me decide where we will eat next time. Not the expensive restaurants, but maybe in the price range of $10 - $12 per person.

(The homeless are sad to see, would love to know their stories. The powdered sugar on the floor at Cafe du Monde is hysterical! The pralines next door are heavenly. The steetcar is fast. I took a look in Harrah's Casino, and it cost me $10. lol Watching the river traffic while sitting on a bench is nice. The old buildings in the area are gorgeous.)

I posted this on a thread today, but should have put it here for you locals that may help. I got a few suggestions that I will definitely look into, maybe I can get a few more? I got Cafe Maspero, The Gumbo Shop, Napoleon House, Clover Grill, Port of Call and Mother's.

Houston, we have a problem....

So DH and I got most of the nursery set up today- the crib is together, with sheets, the bumper and bee mobile set up. The swing is up, changing table is ready, car seat is clean and set to newborn setting- I feel very accomplished. The nursery is free of all junk except for boxes of Sienna's clothes that I need to get rid of- so it actually looks like a nursery again!

The problem is when Sienna walked in there- at first she got very excited and said "look, that's for a baby!". And I said "yes, your baby brother is going in here..." And then her face fell, tears welled up, bottom lip started quivering and with a cracked voice said "but I'm the baby..."

Uh oh.

I sat her in my lap (what could still fit ) and said of course she'll always be my baby...and called DH for backup. I didn't know how to handle this! DH hugged her and asked if she wanted some cookies (just like a man). The cookies cheered her up, but she was somber the rest of the night and lip started quivering when I mentioned the baby again.

Oh jeez, this is ripping my heart in two and I feel like I'm betraying her is some way. I'm not sure how to go forward with the baby business without getting her too upset.

She'll be fine! My older son was an only child and only grandchild on both sides for 8 years before our 2nd son was born. DS#1 used to talk to the baby before he was born. Ask Sienna if she wants to sing to the little one. When our DS#2 was born, our olderson said." Hi Philip" and Phil looked right at him!! He recognized his older brother's voice.

It was 76 and sunny here today!!!!

So we went to the pizza place and got slices to go and ate in the park on a bench. I still am sick but I think the fresh air did me some good.

It's going to be a long, rough day....I'm hoping that the news is the bright spot!

They chose this break to CHANGE MY FLOORS at work. So I have NO IDEA what kind of mess I'm going to be returning to. You'd think this could have waited until summer? Also, the two classrooms that I KNOW to have HOLES in the floor are NOT getting their floors changed.

And this is the long haul....the last 10 weeks. You may see less and less of me on here as we roll into May.

Oh and Monday I have a doctor's appointment.

Well it's getting late and it has calmed down a bit outside so I'm going to go sleep. Goodnight!

Lorie...there's a book called "Peter's Chair" by Ezra Jack Keats. Peter has just become an older brother and he is upset because the dad is painting his blue baby furniture pink, so Peter tries to run away WITH the baby chair. Then he realizes he no longer FITS in the chair, and he ends up changing his mind by the end and helps daddy paint the chair. It's cute...most books by Ezra Jack Keats are.

Hey gals. I keep getting on here sooo late.

Anyway, this weeks starts the 3-day per work week madness for me. DH homeschooling in the homestretch??, Well, it'll be good. I have decided to do school a little different-year round. I was almost year round, but this summer-to my kids semi unhappiness-we are stooping the 1st week in May and taking all of the rest of May off. Then in June we will do 2 weeks. Then off for about 3-4 more weeks for VBS and drama camps.

Then we will offically start the next grade levels at the end of July.

Of course, if DH is not employed by the end of June, this may alllll change-part of the coolness of homeschooling!

I want to start our new year!

He says if he is not employed by then that he may start waiting tables again. We'll see. He made great $$ working at Sal n Sams in Metairie ages ago-it is anot there any more. He was there 12 years.

Hoping to hear good news tomorrow for Bethany, AND for DH. Or at least in the week for DH.

I think the French Quarter Fest lucked out on the weather this weekend. It looked like rain so often but I don't think they got any. So did anyone go? I heard on the news how crowded it was.

Bethany I must have missed your post on today being the big day for something. Is it a job that you applied for or a place to live? Well, either one I wish you luck.

Now I'm praying for no rain next weekend. Kendall turns 13 on Saturday and we are having a Laua in the backyard for 45 of her friends. I've been going overboard buying from Orential Trading trying to make my yard look "tropical" but if it rains I'm doomed. I just listened to the weather and so far it looks good but it's still to far out to feel comfortable about it.

I can personally vouch for Gumbo Shop (former employee). I'm familiar with all but Clover Grill, but the rest are all good choices.
Do you need breakfast as well? Petunia's, Cafe Beignet & Crossaint d'Or should fill the bill.

OOH - good suggestion! I've read some of the other EJK collection, and I bet Peter's Chair is just as good! My DM purchased I'm a Big Brother by Joanna Cole & Maxie Char for DS1, and I've held on to it all this time. I do know I've seen the I'm a Big Sister version locally.

Cookies DO make everything better (especially chocolate chip!) A neighbor's mom sent over a fresh batch right after I got home with DS2. I reluctantly shared them with DH & DS1!

Now I'm praying for no rain next weekend. Kendall turns 13 on Saturday and we are having a Laua in the backyard for 45 of her friends.

Just pretend it's monsoon season in the tropics! We've got our church parish fair this weekend as well. It's still early, but the forecast looks good so far!
