Ok we all know about the marathons that occur down in Disney world ,but how does a bicycle ride grab folks? I can't run because of my knees but I'm an avid cyclist and would love to see some kind of an event put together involving cycling. Any idea who to talk to ?

You'd need to contact Disney World, probably using the Guest Satisfaction email address for an initial contact, and ask them to forward it to the proper department.

Honestly, like the Marathon, it is not an inexpensive proposal...added security, traffic re-routes, medical and emergency personnel, having hotels available for those not in DVC, places to store and secure the bikes...as Mickey used to say, it "takes a lot of doin' to set these things up!"

Thanks Chuck,
I'm guessing the Marathons didn't start out as big as they've become. And if i'm wrong perhaps i can plant a seed in the mind of the mouse ?

The marathon this year was the 20th. There were 65,000 runners for the marathon weekend for all the races combined.

The best way to get this started would be to find sponsors to contact Disney about doing this. They probably won't take anything from an individual.

Bill & Deb,
you're on to something. Maybe the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or American Cancer Society. American Heart Association? I worked with the M.S. Society here in the greater Phila. area for a few years so i think I'll start with them.

Thanks,
Irv

Well, Livestrong needs something positive. Plus look to bike companies, racing teams, etc. Someone to pay the bills, someone to sell goods at an expo. More than just charities. Maybe investment companies or banks or insurance companies. The big sponsor for the marathon was Cigna. Plus Dannon, Champion, New Balance, Celebration Health, Craisins, Clif Bar, etc.

Great idea!!! Get it going! I go out there for the races and i'd go out there for a nice ride!
