Metal Detectors at parks

Does everyone go through the metal detectors now or is it still random screening? I'm just preparing us since my husband has a metal plate in his wrist and can set the detectors off. Thanks

Don't know if it's still random, because I haven't been there since last July. It was random then, but a lot of people got picked. I wouldn't fret over it or try to be "prepared". It's not all that big of a deal, plenty of people with that similar situation go through, and security is quite used to it. I have pins in my hip...not sure if they set off detectors or not, but either way, it's no big deal.

My dad is getting a hip replacement soon and will be given a card indicating it to show at screening locations. Could he not get something like that from his doctor?

I mean prepared as in keeping my excited kids contained while I wait for the hubby to then get wanded after setting off the machine.

I wish we could get a card, but the surgery was about 17 years ago and we no longer live near the surgeon who did it. I could try to ask his GP to see if he'll do it.

When I was there in January, I managed to be at each park at RD or a few minutes after, and it looked like they were making everyone go through.

This might be a very stupid question here but how does that all work when you have young ones? Did you see how it was done? Do we have to take the kids out of the stroller? This is all new to me particularly with having young kids this trip.

Generally they will have parent 1 wait off to the side with the stroller while parent 2 goes through the detector, then switch.

they change up how its done all throughout the day to keep someone trying to do harm guessing. it's simple, they will tell you exactly what they need you to do.. they are good with the kids (who usually are the ones to tell the parents to come through the detector) if the crowd allows the time for that.

Yep, it's really easy, even with kids. Even when it was random, I got selected almost all the time. Not sure if it was the pins in my hip, or the sinister look of my male pattern baldness. Either way, it took all of 15 seconds and my wife and kids just waited off to the side.

Thanks....I am hoping at this point they would allow me to use a carrier for my daughter who will only be 6 months when we go and not have to take her out of that. If I can't don't mind the women who looks like an idiot trying to get the thing off and who knows how else i could describe the scene it would be....

We were there March 13-19 and it seemed as if everyone had to go through the metal detectors at Epcot but at the other parks it was random. For the first time since they started using them, I was picked every time and DH didn't at all - a complete switch for us.
