I have a nice reservation at HH for August, but just realized I made it for a week earlier than we can go!!! Called yesterday and they said nothing is available unless I pay cash for all the night!!! What's up with that! Guess I really don't understand how it works. Is it possible for DVC to turn cash rooms into points rooms? Is it worth calling back and asking? Sure I could waitlist, but I bet that would be tough.

Cash reservations and point reservations come from different inventory. You would have to waitlist for a points reservation.

If I remember correctly the offering statement indicates that DVC will hold 4% of the available inventory for cash. This is what keeps our maintenance costs down.

Sorry about your bad luck...try for the waitlist...I bet it will come through especially if it is a 2 bedroom.

Okay, since we're on the subject here....to confuse things a little more....yes CRO holds there own small inventory but...I thought that the cash rooms that we can book via MS with the member discount come from the points inventory? Isn't that why we have to wait until 60 days out sometimes? Because they won't release the rooms for the cash discount unless they anticipate they won't be booked with points first? :scratchin

So it's not coming from CRO's inventory? How is it that they can have the rooms for cash but not points in this case? I wonder too because when I booked my VB stay...I had to book 2 weeks earlier because they didn't have the villa available for all my nights on points yet I was told they did have it available for cash with the member discount! So I too would like to understand this one ???

Scooch, I think that might be correct. I think those would be available for booking with holding points within 60 days only.

When members use their points for non-DVC reservations, the rooms those points would have gotten are rented out for cash in order to pay for the non-DVC resort.

Example, a HH owner uses their points to go on DCL. DVC must therefore rent some villa for cash that normally would have been used by those points, and then use that cash to pay for the cruise.

Basically that's what happens to free up rooms for cash reservations. I'm not 100% certain of the time frames involved though, but I don't think the 60 day rule applies in this case. It's critical the room is rented.

It would be similar to a member making a HH reservation today, then selling that reservation to someone for cash, taking the cash, and paying for a cruise. There's no 60 day rule in this case. The member can make the HH reservation anytime they want (subject to 11-months, of course)

You could consider trying to rent out the week you have and do a cash reservation with the money. I would make sure I could get the cash reservation first though and make sure you know when you'd have to cancel to avoid a penalty.

If you can't get anyone to rent out the week you have with Points, you could just cancel the cash reservation. Worse thing that could happen I guess is that you cancel your Points reservation too and go another time. Is it too late to bank your points? Anyway, just another idea.

Seeing that this is at HH in August, I kind of doubt you would have a lot of waitlist success. Maybe ArRzrbk's suggestion is the best one for this situation.

just got off the phone, no luck!! I may just say NO! to my daughter, she is 12 and horse shows, the show she wants to go to ends on 8/7, the day we check in! oh well, she has other shows, but family time is more important! thanksf or all the suggestions!
