Merritt Island

We are looking a purchasing a water view condo in Florida. We saw a few nice condos located on Merritt Island. How is this area? Is it family friendly? How are the taxes in this area?

Can anyone else recommend a nice area in Florida with views of the water?

Merritt Island is beautiful. It's a National Wildlife Refuge area. We drive through Merritt every time we visit Central Florida.

I don't recall ever seeing any condos on it, however. I believe the beach section of Merritt Island is government controlled. NASA and the Air Force Base occupy most of that space and there is no access to it.

My mother is renting an old mobile home for the winter in Merritt Island. I have not been so sorry I don't have any information. I know there are a couple of beaches nearby that she really enjoys. She also likes to watch the cruise ships.

Are you looking to be on the beach? If so, Merritt Island is not the place for you. MI is an island between the Indian River and the Banana River, so any waterfront will be on one of the rivers. The rivers are pretty wide in places though, so it could be really nice views.

The northern part of the island is the KSC. We enjoyed living there, but we were on the southern end of the island which means we hardly ever went up to the more populated part of the island.

I will say that when we moved up here we thought we had found a little piece of paradise. Soon after moving though, the real estate market went crazy. Developers moved in and started building tons of houses, condos, etc, and it quickly became crowded. We still like it here but not nearly as much as when we first moved up.
