I have a resale AKV contract purchased years ago and now I want to add on. If I purchase another resale contract with the same use year (DEC) at AKV am I able to merge these contracts to make life easier?

As long as you buy a contract with the same use year and it is deeded exactly the same way as your original contract you will be all set...even if it is at a different resort. Your first contract is listed as #####.0. Subsequent contracts will be listed as #####.1, #####.2, etc.

You can use your contracts separately or in combination as long as they have the same root contract number. If you were to buy a different use year or deed subsequent contracts in different names those contracts would get new root contract numbers. In that situation you would have to transfer points between contracts to combine points.

We have contracts at OKW (3), HHI (3) and BWV (1) and all are listed under the same root number.

Yes it will make your life easier.

Points from both contract will be together so you will not have to transfert points from one contract to an other when you want to use points from those 2 contracts for one reservation.

Also, only one date to reminber for banking.

Just make sure that the deed is under exactly the same name for both contracts.

And be sure to tell the resale company that you want the new contract to be under your current membership number.

I'd put it on the contract and remind the closing company several times along the way. I'd also let DVC know independently around the time of closing and a few days later.

I just recently purchased a contract at AKV direct from Disney. But I know when I add on I will want it to be resale, with the same UY but at a different home resort. How does this work when merging them?

Let's say I buy 50 add on points at BCV resale. Can I book a trip for F&W at 11 months to stay at BCV, or do I have to wait for 7 months if I have to use some of my 120 AKV points?

Is it the same rules if you buy re-sale or direct?

Sorry for the hijack :flower3: :flower3: :flower3:

There is no requirement that DVC merges the contracts and in fact, they very well may stop doing so at some point for resale. They currently have to be the same UY and the same exact names as the current contract. While currently they will normally do so, there is no requirement that they will. I do know of a couple of instances where they didn't and were not willing to fix it, though it's been a few years.

Dean, when you state that you would let DVC know independently, is there something specif you would recommend communicating?
And are you suggesting the communication is with a guide?
This is the only concern I have with a recent resale purchase we made. We provided our member number to the closing company, so I expect things will work out well.
Thanks

I put my member number on the contract, reminded the broker and also reminded the closing company. I let member admin know as well.

Contracts are never really merged, but when you buy the same UY and title the same way, they are put under the same membership.

When this happens, you can use the points together at 11 months (if the same resort) and at 7 months (if different resorts).

If you buy BCV, then only those points will be available for booking at BCV during the home resort booking period. You will not be able to use the AKV points until 7 months.

But, as mentioned, if you are buying resale, it doesn't hurt to put your current membership # on the documents to help ensure that the new contract is kept in that same membership.

If you buy a different UY, then you will have two memberships and the only way to combine points for a single night is to transfer points between them.

Thank you! This is very helpful. I was thinking I could get away with adding a very small (like 25 point) contract at BCV, but in reality I would never really be able to book what I need with that amount of points.

I will wait to buy more points until I am in a position to where I can buy more.

Thanks!! :goodvibes

While I am aware of only a couple of examples where they weren't merged and should have been, I am aware of more where the buyer thought they'd be merged but didn't follow the advice given above (different use year and/or names listed). I would caution that this is something that might change in the future, including after one signs but before the transfer is completed, and wouldn't be surprised if it did in relationship to qualified vs unqualified points. I suppose one could make it a condition of sale though I don't recall anyone doing that and I'm sure many buyers would be hesitant at best.
