Menus are changing!

Lunch and dinner at Kona are now the same and instead of trying to get reservations for both lunch and dinner now I don't really want reservations for either... What did they do to the sushi too :scared:

This is disappointing :( My husband really liked the steak that Kona had and now it doesn't seem like something he would enjoy at all. Unfortunately he can be a picky eater so I don't think we will be back there which is a bummer for me as I love their pan fry noodles. Has anyone noticed any other menu's being changed besides California Grill and Sci-fi?

Menu at Captain's Grille changed too, no more lemon ricotta pancakes.

o_O That was delicious. I don't think that would be cost-cutting, just changing it up! It's a shame, though we won't stop going there for breakfast!

I was just double-checking the menus for an upcoming visit and was shocked. I hit Kona 3x a year and get the lamb chops at dinner. This item has been on the menu forever and it is gone. It looks the menu is now an all day one like at
Olivia's. I hope the Wave, GF Cafe and other same level restaurants don't follow suit and go the same way. If I am going to be offered a sandwich for dinner, I might as well do counter service. Table service will not have the same appeal.

I am so opposite. The only reason menus "can't" stay the same is because someone changes them. Otherwise they certainly could stay the same.

I imagine they change them based on number of sales and/or profit margin (which considering prices should always be high). Obviously, there will be some things that are favorites to some people, but not others. I would say contact Disney if your favorite has disappeared...if enough people want a specific item, maybe they'll bring it back.

I would think prices would reflect a different product. Of course you're right about the non menu stuff being more flexible. I was more thinking replacing an octopus app for a tuna app - would depend on pricing and the margin would be the same.

Yeah, I would expect if they were paying $3 before and charging $15 and now they pay $5, I would expect the new menu price to be (at least) $18. I'm not a Disney menu planner, so I can't say what factors go into making changes, but I doubt very seriously they'll lose money no matter which way you slice it (that wouldn't be Disney like :duck:)

Would sharing your disappointment with Disney help? Maybe if enough people complained, they would bring back popular dishes?

Disney is selling out those restaurants. What will help is when people quit eating at their restaurants... Until then they will keep pushing the margin to see when they hit the tipping point.

Customer satisfaction??? Nah.
Under current management it's all about the cash grab! If they can save 5cents they will.
... and get off my lawn. You just sound grumpy.

Seriously, it's an argument with no proof whatsoever. Do companies get rid of unpopular merchandise? Yes. Are there some cost cutting measures? Of course. But to claim every decision is a cash grab is short sighted and blatantly false. If that was even remotely true, I'm sure everyone on here could name a dozen things Disney could cut at aren't essential to the bottom line.

How about the chefs want to make something different? equally valid opinion without knowing the actual reason.

Which site has the menu changes? I looked on here and allears and didn't see changes yet.
Given that Disney itself just changed the menus two days ago, and that both wdwinfo.com and appears get their menus from the actual menus (either self-obtained or submitted by site users), it's not the least bit surprising you see discrepancies. Fortunately, both unofficial sites include the month/year The menu was posted.
Hold on a sec...if it's salmon, wouldn't it be an SLT?
SBLT. Unless they replaced the bacon with the salmon??? In which case it would be called a travesty!

It was my favorite thing on the menu!!!!! Boo...

This is disappointing. We go twice a year and always get the Samoan and Macadamia pancakes - both which are gone now. We have reservations in 2 weeks and I'm hoping the meal won't be a disaster. Kona had been a consistent pleasure.

This is serious. My top three favorite things are gone. No more Samoan, Big Kahuna or pork steam buns.:mad:

Is anyone reading the new menu? :p

Yes the Samoan isn't on there, but did you read the description of the Kona Benedict? Sounds like a great replacement! Poached eggs over Kalua pork changed to Poached Eggs with Citrus-Chili Hollandaise Sauce and Char Siu Pork Belly on Toasted Hawaiian Bread.

As someone who only went to Kona at Breakfast for The Samoan, I almost lost my -ish when I read that they had JUST gotten rid of it after waiting 2 years to get back to it! BUT, I didn't cancel my reservation because you're so very right, this new dish looks delicious. I think it's sort of like the "new Samoan" and I'm excited to try it!!

I'm glad you saw it! I think it looks good too....

Heck even McDonalds and Burger King change their menus now and then! They take low sellers off the menu and add new items off to try to increase sales I must be an exception but I can find something to eat at almost any restaurant.

Well for me...not a fish person, I would say it's a travesty regardless, but I understand for those of you who like fish, it would be yummy. Anything with bacon is better and you just have to add the lettuce and tomato so you can at least say you had your veggies or it's partially healthy. :duck:

The Kona Eggs Benedict comes with citrus-chili hollandaise sauce. Has anyone tried this? Is this sauce good?
