Are their menu restrictions within the dining plan? I was reading the latest version of the Unofficial Guide and it made it seem like you were sometimes limited in what could be ordered especially when it came to items on the children's menu? It seemed like kids could only get mac and cheese or nuggets? Is that the case?

restricted how? At Cs places, For kids,if there is a kids menu than you must order off the kids menu( though the choices are mediocre sometimes), at TS restaurants kids have a kids menu.If you are looking for adult type entrees in kid portions than yes it is kind of restricted, since most offerings are like pasta or chicken tenders. As for adults, under the basic dp, they can order anything except things that are either meant for 2 people, or are multi-course type meals. The exception is a few restaurants that are piloting the multicourse meals for the dp, but they are restrictive in that no substitutions or changes may be made.

By that, they probably meant that most of the children's menu meals do not have extensive choices. By accepting the dining plan, you also accept that a child age 3-9 on the dining plan is required to order off the children's menu and is restricted to the children's meal choices.

Most TS restaurants have really improved their choices on the children's menu. They each seemed to have one "pre-plated" choice that was themed to the restaurant and represented all of the major food groups. At 50s Prime Time it included a chicken breast, green beans, yogurt, pasta with red sauce, fresh fruit cocktail, and a dessert. A far cry from chicken nuggets!

There are some restrictions in that some places will allow you to do their fixed price menu on the DDP while others will not. Other than that, we really didn't encounter restrictions.

They had referenced a pizza place in Animal Kingdom where there was no available pizza for kids on the kids menu only nuggets and mac and cheese. I'll have to re read that section in the book again.

Thanks!

The CS at Animal Kingdom you are referring to is Pizzafari. That used to be true, but now they offer a kid's cheese pizza or spaghetti and meatball.

I too feel that so many places have limited choices for kids. When we go and use the DDP I have to really research before I leave home so I can vary what my kids will be eating a bit. If we weren't on the DDP, I don't think I'd feel it was as restrictive. Then we could order anything on the menu for them. (one of the reasons I'm debating the DDP for the next trip...)

We eat our TS meals at mostly character dinners or other family style service restaurants. So we have no problem with the kids TS meals. The only order from a menu restaurant DD will eat at this trip is Le Cellier. However, the kids meals at CS locations aren't always to our liking.

With the types of TS meals we're doing, the cost of those alone bring us out ahead on the DDP as far as value goes. The CS and snacks are bonus. So we don't worry about it. If DD doesn't want anything off the kids menu at a particular CS location she can either share with me or I'll order her an adult meal and pay OOP for it. :goodvibes

How about the adult items?? I seem to recall a thread a couple of years ago that mentioned items that you couldn't get on the DDP, but those were mostly items for TS like lobster, certain steaks, etc. In regards to CS meals (since I am considering the QSDP), do they ever not allow a particular entree or combo if the restaurant is participating? I also know certain items were not available as a dessert choice at certain locations. I am particularly interested in main meal items for CS. Thanks!

We have done dining twice and deluxe dining once and have never run across something we couldn't order.

As for adult TS , the only things generally not allowed on the basic dp are items that are made for 2 people, or multi course meals that include the appetizer( unless otherwise noted), For instance,Les Chefs de Frances' French menu option is a good example of that because it is an appy, entree, and dessert. As for Cs generally speaking there are no restrictions other than if you have a child under 10 they must order from a childs menu if one is provided.

There were reports from awhile back that Wolfgang Puck Express was excluding a couple of its most expensive entrees from the CS dining plan. I do not know if they still do that.

Any other reported restrictions at CS involved desserts.
