Anyone been to the Balearics late October - looking to go for a week there for October half-term.

Spending my Tesco Clubcard vouchers via Cosmos so have found a few nice looking villas that tick all my fussy boxes:snooty:;), just not been to Menorca before so wanted to see if there was anyone who could advise where not to go/stay, what to do etc and what sort of temperatures/weather to expect.

Have also looked at Majorca (been before, liked it well enough) and a couple of other places (Turkey and Greece), but Menorca sounds quite nice.

Would have preferred somewhere a little warmer, but we're frantically saving for our joint 50th birthdays next year and that's going to be a three week special to Florida/Caribbean somewhere:lovestruc

Thanks:)

We haven't been since the girls were quite small (last time probably at least ten years ago), so not sure how relevant my opinion will be!

I think all our three or four trips were in October and, for us, the weather was ideal - warm enough for the beach with the girls and to sit out in the evening, but not so hot we needed to hunt down the places with A/C like we do in Florida!

We always aimed for quieter places in the north but, of course, I can't remember any names! :rolleyes1 We found some tucked away coves on the north coast and I remember enjoying a trip or two to Cuidadela with it's city wall and harbour area.

Hi, Menorca is fantastic! Its a beautiful island, in my opinion much better than Ibiza and Majorca. There are no bad areas really, some resorts are busier than others but all are very pretty and the beaches are amazing!

If you are looking for a nice beach resort, try Cala Galdana, the beach is out of this world and there are a few nice bars and hotels around. Arenal also has a fantastic beach and well worth a visit. Mahon the capital is a lovely old town with a nice harbour and some shops, and Ciudadella is also worth going to - both really lovely old towns.

As for weather, I wouldn't expect it to be boiling, but you may be lucky. We have been in Sept before and it has always been lovely but Oct may be bit cooler.

Any other ques feel free to ask!

Hello,

On my birthday this year my hubby told me that two days later we were going to menorca for a week in the sun for a birthday surprise. :lovestruc:lovestruc

I have always wanted to try menorca and we went around the 8th May.

I was worried re the weather but we were lucky and managed to sun bathe every day. The pool on the other hand was freezing :rotfl:

We stayed in Cala Galdana, there are three main hotels there, Sol Gavilanes, Cala Galdana Hotel and Hotel Audax. It depends what you want. We stayed at the Audax and adored it, but we just wanted to have a lovely hotel with a spa, chill out, eat nice food and nothing much else. There is really only a couple of supermarkets, shops and pubs/restaurants there. The other two hotels do more entertainment and more for families.

The beach at Cala Galdana is just beautiful and would go back there again without any hesitation. The cliffs and the pine trees make it look beautiful.

I have been looking on the trip advisor forum for a few years now about menorca and I get the impression that the weather starts to change about mid September, in fact I think you might struggle to get a flight after the end of September.

Have you thought of the canary isles? Maybe Gran Canaria or Tenerife??

Thanks everyone.

Hello,
Have you thought of the canary isles? Maybe Gran Canaria or Tenerife??
Yes, have now!! After a bit more research, I think Menorca has probs been knocked on the head - for two reasons: a bit too cool (although it should be better than here) but more importantly it seems from what I've read that Menorca/Majorca seems to 'shut' around the middle of Oct.

Whilst I prefer nice, quiet places, this may be a little extreme:headache:

So back to the drawing board, we're now looking at Cyprus, Turkey, Canaries (although I'm having to research on the three islands here - Florida has never seemed so complicated;)).

Any advice/experience would be appreciated:thumbsup2

Me again !

A girl I work with told me that menorca is not a "winter" destination, I think it is mainly May to September. Do put menorca on your "wish list" though, as if you love relaxing holidays you will love cala galdana.

Well our favourite destination is Cypus, absolutely adore it. We are going again in a week's time. Think this is our 14th time!

We have never been in October but a friend who works at a school has been in the october school holidays and enjoyed it. I think the only down side was that you did not have as many hours of light as in the summer (but probably this is the norm anyway that time of year?)

We have been to lanzarote, enjoyed it but personally would not rush back.

I want to try Fuertuventura, some of the beaches there look like they are in the carribean, but some call it the windy isle.

I think out of the four, for weather, possibly Gran Canaria or Tenerife. Maspalomas is supposed to be lovely in Gran Canaria (by the sand dunes).

I have to agree with the others - while Menorca is a wonderfuil desitnation - I'm booked for Aug next year :cool1: - the weather would definitely be cooler in October.

I've been to Fuertuventura in October and that was lovely and warm and the beaches were amazing - but as another poster said it can be a little windy.
