Good Afternoon,

Does anyone out there have any advise for losing weight after reaching perimenopause?? Gone are the days of skipping lunch and dropping those pesky five pounds:confused3 . Now it seems I eat less, exercise more and just stay the same! Do I want to be 25 again? No...but to have that metabolisim.....

Thanks,

Heidi:maleficen

Boy, do I know what you mean! Especially when you mentioned that "pesky 5 pounds". I regained 5 pounds (of the 20 it had taken me 8 months to lose), and after 2 1/2 months, it's still there. Lots of exercise seems to help, but it sure is a lot harder than it was a few years ago.

Oh for sure to be able to get through this time would be wonderful. I don't have the exact answer other than what doc told me.

Don't stop. Keep doing what you do b/c it would be worse if you stopped what it is you are doing.

I also have found some small success in taking those smaller portions and dividing them into the 4-6 meal plan. I am not able to do so every day, but it is definitely helpful when I can.

Anyone else have any help? I'd sure like to know too.

Hi-

Well, I have heard that lack of sleep can also add weight as the body doesn't rest well enough at night & holds onto everything it can. I could fall asleep, but not stay asleep - so I finally went to my doc and he gave me an anti-depressant to help reset my sleep cycle. I was a little un-nerved to take an anti-depressant, but it seriously worked! It took about 2 months, and then I was able to wean off of it. As soon as I was getting some sleep, I started exercising. I try to exercise 6 days a week for a 'natural high'.

I was having hot flashes at night too that were waking me up. Once I lost some weight, the hot flashes stopped (for now anyway).

I highly recommend portion control. It is very hard to be with my kids and spouse and not match them bite for bite, but if I want to avoid 'roly poly mama', one must sacrifice... Also, when DS does not eat his dinner or snack, that doesn't mean I get to eat off his plate. Moms, we have our own plate! :sad2: I even took most of the snacks for DS and DH that I could and jammed them in one cupboard. I do my best to stay out! :snooty:
