Memphis Airport Help

Hi,

We are leaving for the Florida Panhandle on August 12 (yay) and flyiing Northwest with a connection in Memphis.

We have a 90 minute layover and need suggestions for a restaurant for lunch.

Last year, we had a layover in Memphis and had some really bad food at a food court there.

Any suggestions , we are not fussy. Just something to tide us over on a long trip.

Hey there!

The airport is not in the best part of town. Will find out where would be a decent place to eat as I know a lot of people who travel in and out of there.

For a 90 minute layover- it's not enough time to get to a restaurant and make it back if that's what you were hoping. Some of the concourses can be a good 15 minute walk to the front where the cabbies are. There are some barbecue places there that are decent- I think it's Corky's which is pretty good. They are found right before you head down the concourses in their own stall area. Otherwise I would stop at one of your favorite deli's and order a sandwich to take with you and eat at the airport.
And the area around the airport is not very user-friendly- I would stay away from getting off and eating out. Sorry- I've lived in Atlanta, Seattle and Memphis- and it by FAR has the worst food options. Good luck!

Just flew in and out of Memphis last week and there is nothing really to eat there. A small deli , fast food, airport bar. That is about all I saw. The airport is pretty small with not too many options - Good luck !!

If Corky's is an option at the airport - by all means - eat there. (good bbq).

REALLY don't rec. your leaving the airport - especially for such a short layover.

I lived in Memphis for 30+ years, so I feel that I speak from experience....Don't eat at the airport. Don't leave the airport.

As stated, there are only a couple of food places and those few are not always open.

And you do NOT want to leave the airport. It's in a bad neighborhood, there's always road construction of some kind and you'd have to drive at least 20-30 minutes to get to a decent restaurant.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I think it's better to warn you then for you to find out the hard way.

The Corky's at the airport (if you like bar-b-que) has been very good the few times we've eaten there. I love their BBQ chicken. It is located in Concourse B down near the end where the international flights come in. Concourse B is the largest and branches off to the left and right at the gift shop/food court area. If you're standing in the center facing the gift shop (main airport terminal would be behind you) then Corky's is located to the right down near the end of the concourse. The last time we were in the airport (and it's been a little while) most of the food court places were your typical fast food outlets... I think they had a McDonalds and a couple of others. There was a decent restaurant in the main terminal (not sure if it's still there) located to the left of the main entrance (if you're coming into the main terminal from the planes), headed toward Concourse A, I believe, but I don't know if it's still there. And the problem with going to the main terminal to eat is not only time, but you'll have to go through the security stations again to get back to the gates. There are some decent quick snacks if that might help, Cinnabun and an ice cream counter come to mind... if a quick snack might be in order. These are also located in Concourse B. Hope you manage to find something!

Check here for Info on Memphis Airport . Interstate BBQ and Corky's BBQ are served at a couple of locations in the airport and both are good.

It's not dangerous around the MEM airport, there just aren't good places to eat around it. If you have 90 minutes between flights, you probably have less than 90 to work with when you take into account boarding time and any delays in arrival.

Since you are flying NW, you will likely be at the airport during a hub-turn. MEM is usually a ghost town between NW hub-turns and is filled to capacity during the hub-turn. Good Luck

Interstate BBQ, THAT's the other one! I was just about to post that I thought there was another BBQ place there but couldn't remember which one it was. Thanks drogerstn, for that website link. I searched all over for it and couldn't find it!

Interstate BBQ (at the airport, also very good) is located down the other branch of Concourse B (and possibly has other locations?) near another small gift shop and right before the end of the concourse where it branches out to a big space.

On the website drogerstn listed, click on Passenger Info, then terminals, then terminal B and it will list which gates everything is near. I see that there is now a Jack Daniels themed eatery (wasn't there the last time we were) and the restaurant that serves Corky's is called DaBlues, but there's also a takeout window at the side if you don't want to go in to eat.

Thanks everyone. We'll try one of the two bbq places.

I appreciate the info. We're leaving MN at 7 a.m. so it'll be a long day before we hit Pensacola mid afternoon. We bring some munchies along just in case the food at MEM doesn't work out.
