Memory Maker - Should we get it?

I've seen it answered differently in a few different places but I wanted to ask it again here. I'm travelling down with a group of 17 people, but separated into 4 different groups (4 different rooms and families). I have pre-purchased MM and I have everyone (all 17) in my MDE listed as family and selected that they can view and purchase photos. I know I can switch the download ability from person to person one person at a time, so I'm good there. I just wanted to make sure that I'm the only person in the family that needs to purchase the MM. Will other people, not in my immediate family (but still listed as family in MDE), have their photos automatically linked to my MM as long as they get their MB scanned? Same with the ride photos?

We did get the PP+ last time we were in Disney (2 years ago) and it was well worth it. When you do an event like the Jedi Academy, it's great having the Disney photographer take the photos since they can get much closer and they end up taking photos you couldn't get with your own camera. Plus, you can actually watch the event and enjoy it rather than trying to snap pictures. Now that the ride photos come with it too it just makes it that much more worthwhile. If you aren't getting ride photos or event photos then you can certainly question whether it's worth it.

I'm on the fence with MM for my upcoming trip. It would seem that if you're going with a large group for an extended period of time, then it's absolutely worth it. However, I'm going in September for just 4 days (1 day per park) and it will just be my boyfriend and myself.

I might just hand off my camera to Photopass Photographers throughout the parks and decide if I want certain ride photos when I see them after getting off the rides. Some rides photos don't come out that well (blinking, looking the wrong way, someone's raised hands blocking your face...) Or should I invest in the $149?

I just booked a resort and because I'm an Annual Passholder they gave me free memory maker. I've never had this before. I understand I get to view all the photos on my disney experience. can i download them digitally for free? or do you then have to pay to download or print or get a CD?

Honestly I cannot see a downside to it. I fully plan on taking full advantage of MM on my upcoming trip. I a super excited about ride photos, character shots, and magic shots. I can't wait to look at all the pics every night when I get back from the parks.

If you have MM, you can download all of your pictures free. For an extra $30, you can get a CD, which also includes the gallery of stock photos (which is, I think, $30 all by itself, so you get your CD essentially free).

That's theft and you're stealing from Disney. Congratulations.

There are more photographers than ever and even more opportunities for photos, so those reports were greatly exaggerated.

The MM entitlement is the right to download all of your photos. With the download comes the rights to print the pictures and use them. If you want printed copies of the pictures or a CD, that is an additional cost. You can order those from Disney also, or you can burn your own CD and print your pictures (much more cheaply) at a local or online photo place.

Where can I find a list of what MM gives you? We usually only see 1 photographer or 2 in each park. Where are you all finding 150 photos taken?

We are doing 2 trips in 1 so to speak....I will be taking BOTH trips, but the first 1/2 of the trip will be Me, MIL, SIL....the second half will be Me, my mom, my son....

So If I purchase MM- can I use it for my entire stay and presumably get all the photos in one set? (rather than buying 2 MMs?

Also- is MM available to offsite guests? (1/2 our trip is offsite)

Good.

I don't think you can do this. The only person entitled to the downloads is the person who has purchased MM. The MM is only attached to one account and that account holder has to do the downloads (unless I'm mistaken). Also, the account holder has to all of the edits as well. No edits done on one account will be seen on another (For example, my mom has MM. The photos that are edited on her account still do not show up in my account. If I edit photos in my account, the edits will not be able to be downloaded by her on her account, and I won't be able to download them either since I do not have a MM attached to my account).

Only one person has to purchase a MM entitlement. Everyone's photos will be automatically linked to your account. Same with ride photos (that doesn't even require scanning of the band, it is done automatically). The catch is that ONLY the person who has the MM entitlement linked to their account will be able to view any of the ride photos.

Give me a break.

Man, I was really hoping that your breathless recounting of how you committed copyright theft was due to ignorance, not...whatever this is.

Do you take things from stores without paying for them, too?

No shame needed. You were one of thousands in WDW that day that did that. I've done it myself in front of a CM, and was told nothing.

Thanks. I am really not the jerk this person is making me out to be. I actually asked my two photographer friends if what I did was technically illegal and asked them to pull no punches and they both said no. They said I did not hire them to take my picture, ask them to take my picture, I am not selling the picture and I took my own picture off my own computer screen and that is what I printed for myself no one else. They said point blank it is not illegal.

It does not mean that I can not appreciate the discussion or still question the ethical or legal discussion. I really gave no thought to it at all until it was brought to my attention.

I would never do such a thing if I hired a photographer. I actually ended up paying just about what Memory maker would have been if I pre-purchased for the few pictures I did purchase so I do not feel too bad. Not to mention when I printed them I did not even realize it.. they just went to my iPhotos and I forgot about them when I went to print all my pictures and then I saw how good they turned out.

Perhaps it is a grey area and I would not suggest this is a proper thing to do given the suggestion. However putting this in perspective.. I took two perhaps 3 (I forget now pictures) off my computer screen after purchasing "x" number of pictures. I then printed those couple of pictures. I do not think I should be called a thief etc.

Not to mention I thought the name looked familiar and I have seen several nasty remarks made today.. Someone likes to start arguments...

I got it for our May trip and I will not get it again. True about not many photographers, and I feel like I took the same pics with my camera. It was nice to get the ride pictures but that was it. I was also missing lots of pictures and had to email them about it. Good thing I took a picture of the screen for ride pics every time. Those were mostly missing.

Did your ride pictures automatically connect to your magiband, since you had MM? Or did you have to wait in line and have a cm put it on your magiband?

We had over 800 pictures (not including ride photos) for the 8 people in my family for a 2 week vacation. Here is where we had pictures from-

- Rides (obviously, but not really that many)
- Character meals- just the pictures from before the meals. There were about 5-10 per meal. We did 5 or 6 of these.
- BBB with a photo shoot afterwards and PL. We ended up with at least 150 pictures from these three things (I have 3 kids participating in these experiences)
- Meet and greets. We had about 20-30 pictures from most of these. We did maybe 10-20 of these.
- PP photographers. We didn't stop at nearly everyone we saw, nor did we even stop every day of the trip in front of the icons. We got maybe 10 shots from each time we stopped at a PP photographer.

Yes.

Offsite guests can also use MM.

It really isn't a grey area. It's theft, plain and simple. I don't know why you're trying to skirt this and try to justify it. You are shoplifting, and what you described is illegal.

Ignore the name calling. Some people feel better about themselves if they can point out your flaws. If you drive 1 mile over the speed limit, you are breaking the law, but I bet that they don't do that either.

The ride pictures automatically connect and you can view them in your account if you have MM.

Also, we had 8 member of our party and were at WDW for 2 weeks. Out of the ride photos we had taken, only 1 picture was not connected correctly. It somehow connected the ride car in front of the one that we were in one of the times we rode RNR. No problems with any of the other ride photos.
