Memory Maker at Disneyland

We are WDW vets but going to DLR for the first time in April. We always buy Photopass, or what is now called Memory Maker. I love that service, and completely feel it has been a good use of money. So, if I am understanding this thread correctly, we cannot get that for DLR? I don't understand that at all! You just pay for each picture individually? UGH! I just don't get Disney lately. They are making some crazy decisions.

No, I called today prior to my trip to see and I was told you cannot buy it now, the last day to purchase it at the camera stores was Jan 3rd, 2016.

Thanks for explaining sherilaine! Wow, so disappointed, I loved the Photopass+. Guess that explains why they stopped the pre-sales as well.

That's one way to increase the value in the Signature passes. Another would have been to just raise the price of the picture download option, and/or shorten the 14 day window.

At $69.95, the PhotoPass+ was a good value. I even would have paid the $99 price at DL upon arrival. But $149 for Memory Maker? No way. It's not worth $149. There really aren't very many PhotoPass photographers at DL itself most of the time. And when there are photographers out, especially in the afternoon, the lines just to have your picture taken with them can sometimes get REALLY long. Forget it! I'll just do pictures with my iPhone camera since that doesn't cost me a thing. :-(

Oh, and another thing. They made 6 special photo locations the 60th, they're usually staffed with photographers, and now they've taken away the ability to package those pictures half way through the promotion. Can you still pay for all of your pictures on the PP site? It seems like they'd want to have a way to get people to buy those packages when they're in the park and the excitement is still there. Once they're home you're counting on the guest to register their card and order within the time frame, whereas you had them in the park and could have made the sale there if there was a package available.

I'm totally bummed about this. I look back at our PP+ pics and just love them. Yes, I bring a camera and take my own pics. But when I see a PP+ photographers I make my family/group stop and get our picture taken. It's been such an amazing experience to actually BE in the photos because I'm the person who is normally behind the camera

I'm trying to justify the $250 to upgrade to the Signature AP before our next trip later this month. We plan on coming back in October for sure but possibly March and or April. So at $15 a photo to download (is that the price?) I'd have to have 16 great photos taken by PP photographers to justify the expense. I'm thinking about it. If I can get my son on Splash Mountain again (you couldn't see him in our photo and he hated it, says he won't ride again but we're trying to convince him) or Tower of Terror for the first time I'd love to have those ride photos!

My only fear is there will be less photographers in the park now?

This is such a bummer to me! I love the Memory Maker option at WDW and was really hoping to get a PhotoPass for my first trip to DL. I'm now kicking myself for not purchasing it earlier.

I am getting a Signature Annual Pass for my next trip. Before I decide to sell my photopass+ that I have I just want to make sure that as a signature AP you still get magic shots too? The only thing that is different is no borders and no photo print package at character meals right?
I had a Premium AP (the one good at both DLR and WDW) and when I was there in October I was able to get Magic Shot photos. I didn't try in December with the Signature AP, but I can still see the photo from October in my account.

ok, got this reply from Disney themselves.. pretty bummed...

Dear Nikki,

Thank you for contacting us about your upcoming trip to Disneyland Resort.

Unfortunately, you are correct. The Disney PhotoPass+ product is no longer available on the website or in park. From time to time, we make changes to the products we offer. We suggest contacting us when it gets closer to your upcoming trip to discuss what products we are offering at that time.

In regards to your question about annual passes. Unlimited digital downloads of all Disney PhotoPass photos and attraction photos in your account are now included with your Disney Premier, Disney Signature Plus or Disney Signature Annual Pass.

If you need any further assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,

Jess Wahlberg

I've had PP+ before but I wasn't sure if it's the same for AP Signature plus. Do you just hand them your AP card? Thanks!

(Sorry if someone answered already, I'm still on oh 1).

With a Sig AP, you no longer go to the photo desk at the ride. Just snap a picture (or write down) the code on your ride photo. Once you get home, go to the AP website & input the code (it'll tell you where). Voila!

The best part is now you don't have to run back & forth all over the park to get your ride photos added to your PP+ :)

This was posted today by Casey at DLR Prep School on her facebook page:

"Ok, so here is what I know. The PhotoPass+ is no longer an option with a discount or at all. As you find PhotoPass photographers in the park, you can have photos taken and added to your card they provide. Then, at the end of your trip, you can have them added to a "Disney Photo CD" for $69.95 at the Photo Supply Store on Main Street at Disneyland or Kingswell Camera Shop in California Adventure. The photographers are still at the character dining options, and you can buy the print packages there, and then the images can be added to this CD.

I'll be updating my post soon with this info, but wanted to share what I have learned so far."

Here's the pic she posted of the photopass sign at the photo shop and this is from TODAY, January 10. Looks like online option not an option as this point. She did comment ride photos are bought separately.

So, I'm confused. I get that they clearly must think they are not getting enough money from the character meal and ride photos and are going back to the $32 for each dining photo and $16 for each ride photo, (or however they price them now) like it used to be. What I don't understand is are they still going to sell all your photos as a full group, but you have to physically go to the photo shop at the last minute of your trip and get in line and get a photo CD? You can no longer buy the whole package of photos on the website either before or after your trip at one price? That sounds like a real pain. Our last day is a half day, so I can see me in line to get the disc (probably for 15 or 20 minutes) and then I can see us trying to leave, but suddenly we spot a character in Town Square that DD just have to see and we wind up with more photopass pics...so I guess I have to go back to photopass right after that to get them added....and what if they haven't uploaded yet because sometimes it takes a while for them to upload from the camera to the DL system? Also, what about all the people who leave at closing for their last day--- they have to go stand in a huge line in photopass for who knows how long to get a photo CD because they can't just plug their number in at home and buy it and have it shipped to them or downloaded. That makes no sense at all. The $69.95 makes sense (or even $99) if they raise the price, but if they take away the option to do this from a home computer, I can't imagine the mess it will create. Surely, the plan is just to go back to the old system? Surely they are not forcing a $15 each photo price with no option for a bulk buy (CD or download) if you do not do it in the park as you are leaving? Are there no more edits, borders etc? If you have to get the CD right there, you would not be able to have the time to do any of those things--- unless you stood at the machine for a long time and let the line just get longer and longer.

Just looked at the current photopass page:

https://disneyland.disney.go.com/guest-services/photo-pass-service/

Look at the bottom, it seems to indicate that only AP holders will be able to access their photos on the website. It indicates if you do not have an AP, but are a previous photopass user that you can access photos ALREADY taken until they expire. So, that would seem to indicate it does have to be done in park (unless they are doing a new website like WDW did). Does that mean no more creating photobooks? That is our favorite souvenir. We make one every trip. Surely they are going to come up with a different website or something for non-AP holders? If not, I am going to be very unhappy!

Well, it will be interesting to see what the deal is when I get there on Thursday and activate my photopass that I pre-purchased. I'm going to be pretty bummed if I can't add borders and if I have to get the CD before I leave.
