Memory foam beds

We need a new bed and I'm very tempted to get one with a memory foam layer on top as they seem sooooooo comfortable in the shop. However, it's a big outlay and something that's impossible to test for a full night's sleep before we buy! A couple of minutes laying self-consciously in the middle of the shop isn't really the same, somehow ;)

One of my main concerns is whether the foam bit would make the bed hot to sleep on, as there's be less air circulating around the normal gaps you get when you lay down (if that makes sense!).

Have any of you got/tried one of these beds, and what do you think of them?

p.s. the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on are the ones in WDW resorts, but I think that may be partly down to the fact that I end each day absolutely shattered and could probably sleep anywhere at that point ;)

I haven't tried them but I'm not convinced.

We paid a VAST sum for our bed 3 years ago and it's already giving me backache so we need to replace it or the mattress. Trouble is DH doesn't find it a problem so is reluctant to spend another £2,000+ so soon.

Like you, I don't know what to choose. I'm tempted to go for 2x3' mattresses zipped together on top of the base - any comments anyone?

We have a Tempur mattress and absolutely love it (have had it for almost six years)!! My DH also has a Tempur pillow - he used to wake up with a stiff neck in the mornings but that stopped with the Tempur. As far as temperature goes, there is absolutly no difference between this and what we had before. :)

I would definitely recommend it! In fact, Tempur do a 60 night trial so you can try it for yourself - I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed. :cloud9:

My friend has the type you are on about, called Tempur I think, after years of suffering with a bad back from a bad Epidural and having a Breech birth, this was her last resort and she has never looked back, I have just asked her about your concerns about the bed being hot to sleep on and she has never experienced anything like that, and told me you will love it. It does take a little time to get used to the feel apperently as they are so different to the standard mattress, but she assures me that although quite expensive, she has never had a better,or more comfortable nights sleep and would not go back to anything else. :goodvibes

Thanks for the feedback. It sounds positive, and I'm really pleased that no-one has found these mattresses too hot :)

Charlotte - I'd be reluctant to take advantage of the Tempur free 60 day trial as I know I wouldn't want to spend that much for the genuine article. The beds I'm looking at are a cheaper version

We purchased a new mattress a year or two ago. We looked at the foam ones you mentioned but ended up buying a Vi-Spring mattress. I would advise you to consider one of these as well, they feel so so comfy.
Good luck.

DF is a quality engineer for a company that make memory foam mattresses, the feedback they get from customers is that the support the mattress gives is second to none BUT they are warmer, not nessesarily too warm/hot but def' warmer than a regular mattress.

Gavin wouldnt recommend one for us as we both get too hot too quickly and regularly throw our covers offf so if you are like us then it wouldnt be the best option but if your prefer to be a but more snug then it should be fine.

We bought a memory foam 'topper' from Walmart

It's about 2 inches thick and 6ft x 6ft 6. Our mattress on our bed was expensive but I found it very uncomfortable. The topper has transformed the bed ! It does make the bed slightly warmer but not uncomfortable, I have had the best nights sleep ever since putting it on the bed and have not woke up with a stiff neck or aching back.

We paid around $70 for it which is much cheaper than here and managed to get it home in an expanding suitcase as the topper was vaccum packed. To be perfectly honest if I had to pay the full price here in the uk I would still get one. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I have this morning taken delivery of a Tempura mattress topper. Although I obviously haven't slept on it as yet, it feels fantastic to lie on - so comfortable. It cost £340 for a Super King size - with 2 free pillows - and so was much cheaper than a new mattress. I'm optimistic that it might relieve my sciatica.

We looked at these for DD however the salesman said they don`t suit everyone (cause a rash?) Anyway she chose a Sealy bed with a pillow top and very comfy it is too!

wouldn't be without mine now. Well worth the $70 as I haven't had all those awful aches and pains I had before.

Can't wait to go back and get another couple for the kids beds.

I baught a half spring / half memory foam for £500 before Christmas. It really is so comfortable.Ive not woken up aching in the morning since.
It was called Myrafoam - I love it.
It is slightly warmer, but my bedroom is freezing!!So very welcomed,

I was looking at these again yesterday, but DH and I have decided we'll wait a while to get the new bed (after we've paid for the rest of the bedroom furniture! ;) )
