Memory cards for camera ???

Watch online. Do google searches a lot and usually about 2 times a year I see awesome deals on 3 or 4 packs and once they even had a full rebate so it was free in the end.

My 2cents.

Take an extra card w/you.
We bought a new HC card for our last trip.
It kept having errors & reformatting itself.
Put the old card back in. No problems.
Lost the first 2 days of our trip though.
Thank God for Photopass at least we have that.

I just got an 8GB Kinsington and a 2GB (don't remember brand) from NewEgg.com last week for $17 including shipping.

The only real answer is that they work until the don't. There are so many factors that go into it, you really can't know for sure.

How often it's used plays a big part.

Smaller capacity cards are more stable than larger capacity cards.

Also, deleting individual pictures from the camera instead of reformatting the card can cause errors.

Cards that are well taken care of can last 10 years, but as cheap as they are, I'd probably replace it after 5 or 6 years.

How do you reformat the card?

I never knew that.. I don't have errors (or at least never have so far ;)) and I always delete them.

This probably sounds like a really dumb question, but how long do the cards last? I've had my sony cybershot for a couple of years now. I'm still using the card I bought when I bought the camera. After I have my pictures developed and a cd made, I delete all the images. When do you know you need a new one?

The camera will tell you when the card is full -- otherwise, you can unload/reuse these cards for years...

But since you are a Sony owner, most of this thread will not apply to you, as most Sony camera products (up until this year) exclusivley use the "MemoryStick" format card, which is completely different from the SD cards (but widely available at all the same places).

At 12-meg, a 4G card will hold plenty of pictures for the average vacation.

Not if you hang out too long on the Photo board it won't! :rotfl:

I used up four 8 GB cards in five days on our last trip - roughly 1,500 picturse total. :thumbsup2

And to echo the above advice - yes, always FORMAT a card to clear the pictures, don't delete the photos. Format wipes everything clean, deleting leaves behind fragments that can eventually cause the card to fail. The Format option is usually in a settings menu.
