Memory card question

Does anyone here know how many 4.1 mega pixel images that 512mb card will hold?

I bought my 14 y/o daughter a cheap digital camera this afternoon for her upcoming trip to Chicago. I put a 512mb memory card in for her. I have larger memory cards but I don't really want to give her one of those just in case she was to loose or damage the camera, because then I would be out a memory card for my nice camera. Selfish I know.

that number is just an estimate, lexars site mentions that it will vary depending on camera/format/resolution/compression/...etc...

a safer way to estimate the number of pics is to put the card in the camera and see if the camera itself gives you an estimate.. most cameras do..

cards are relaatively cheap why not buy her, her own 1 or 2 gig card...

Sounds like a good idea to me... otherwise its a little like buying your 16 year a car and then telling them it doesn't have a gas tank.

This one is a lets see how you do taking care of this one, we are not spending a lot on this right now. Her track record is not in her favor right now. She had a nice Minolta camera her grandfather got her for her trip to NY City a few years ago and lost it, the her there's her laptop she through it around, dropped it and spilled so much stuff on it, it was destroyed and useless before she had it for a year and a half and last there's her cell phone looks like the dog has chewed on it.

make her buy a 1 or 2 gig card with her money, that will be more incentive to take care of it..

If she is that careless... just buy a three pack of disposable film cameras.

I just bought a 4GB card at Circuit City for $25.99 on friday... For that price it's a great backup to the backup!

My daughter will be getting a camera for christmas if she can stay on track too many times kids dont realize how lucky they are.
