memory card question

I have an SD memory card, if it gets full can I have it transfered on a CD at Shutters?

IF - :rotfl2:

It WILL get full and quickly!! I went through 337 photos in 4 days and that does NOT include Pirate night b/c my camera died the moment it started.

Shutters will transfer to disk. They did mine. I can't remember how much it was b/c honestly I had no choice but to do it as they were out of my memory cards.

Take as many memory cards as you can buy!!!

 Kelly

I would take an extra one with you. They keep the cards overnight to transfer them.

I took my laptop and cleared out our memory cards each night. :rotfl2: There was 6 cameras between us. Take as many cards as you can.

Oh man! We were luckier than I thought. We fell in love with one of the staff at Shutters. She was so sweet to DD and I. She transferred our memory card to disk in a matter of seconds for us while we waited and even....shhhhh....don't repeat this...she also slipped us about 5 photos that I was going to discard b/c I had reached my "package limit." She took them from me, slipped them into a folder and said, "just take them home and always enjoy them." DD loved her so much with have pictures of them together.

I would have died being without a memory card overnight! I'm a photo freak!!

I take tons of pictures too. :) We took 3.5 GBs of SD cards last cruise & DH put them on the laptop every night. We cleared them & refilled them a couple times.

We will have a 2 GB, 1 gb and a 256 (258??) gb CARD. I just don't think I want to deal with the lap top with the airline...

Wow, some of you must be so busy snapping pictures, how do you get time to enjoy the cruise?

When our kids were little, we took a lot of pictures. Kids are teens now, and we have nine, 3 ring 8 1/2 by 11 albums full of pictures that we NEVER look at. Add to that the dozens of videotapes of homemovies that we never look at, we've got a cabinet of stuff we don't use.
So now we take a few pictures at birthdays, Christmas, and vacations. I think we kept about 40 of the pictures we took from our cruise (we deleted the duds every night), plus 8 photos we purchased from Shutters, and 1 from an excursion. The memory stick in my digital camera holds 500, 1000 or 1500 photos as I recall, depending on which resolution you use, we use the middle resolution, I can't imagine taking the 150 or so pictures a day I would need to take to fill up a memory stick!!!

LOL I figured out that with all the camera's in our group that I didn't need mine. I think I took about 100 pic's the whole cruise. The rest are from everyone elses. Out of the 16 of us. Only 3 had been on a cruise or a major vacation like that. So there was tons of pictures taken. I want take as many pictures of the ship this time around or of CC. But the other places that I haven't been before. I'll take tons of.

Gee we take tons of pictures on each cruise and look at the awesome scrap books my DW makes all of the time, especially as we're getting ready to go on another cruise. Some how we still manage to enjoy and experience the cruise. I guess some of us are just better an multi-tasking. :thumbsup2

We just purchased a 2gig card to go with the two smaller ones we have. It should be enough, espcially with the resolution I've picked. But I would be interested in finding out how much the transfer to CD was also.

And some people ENJOY taking pictures as does my dh who can take 30 pictures of the Flying Dutchman. Trust me, he does. We had quite a few cards transfered to a dvd.

Hint:
1) if you take tons of pics, they now have a portable harddrive that you can directly download your pics onto, some even have a screen to view on. They are not very big either, maybe 6 x 6 x 2 (that's an estimate, but they are very portable, much smaller than a laptop).

I wish we had seen one of these BEFORE our cruise.

2) If you plan on have them transfered, take a few hard cases. They only put them in a paper sleeve. Doesn't seem very safe to me.

I HIGHLY recommend either bringing a laptop, a photo transfer hard drive, an iPod with the photo transfer connector or copying the photos off every night at Shutters.

Just read "Heartbroken family needs your help" where the family's camera was dropped on the last night and they lost every photo.

This is the perfect reason to make sure you back up your photos during a trip. I have a 4GB microdrive in my camera and can take 1100 photos at highest resolution and still bring my laptop and download each night when I go on vacation. That way, I have two copies....if the card gets damaged, everything is already on my laptop except for what was taken since the previous night.

What if your camera falls into the pool, or worse yet, drops overboard? What if it gets stolen or is lost?

Having a week's worth of photos sitting in the camera with no other copies is just asking for a huge disappointment if something happens.

I have a pocket pc as one of my cellphones. It comes with a very small card that doesn't fit my camera. But they make adapters that will make it fit my camera. My plan is to buy net time. Email my pictures to an email account and then I can clear my cards. That way I don't have to lug a laptop this trip.

Yep some of us are 'shutterbugs' and take quite a few photos of the great time we're having.....and now all those terrific photos are in a really awesome CREATIVE MEMORIES scrapbook (one of 25 i've done), that DS (15) & I just 'relived' today...AGAIN - for the umpteenth time -because we had such a great time and can't wait for our next one!!!!

We just got off yesterday and I had to have mine downloaded to a cd. It was $14.95 and they did it while I waited (about 10 minutes).

You can also get a CD burned at Key West. The CVS at Key West does the same service as burning to a CD and it only costs 2.99

I know everyone keeps saying it is $14.95 to have your pictures put from your memory card to a cd (at shutters) BUT cd's are normally only 700MB and my memory cards are 1GB and I know at home I can't fit too many pictures on a cd. I could MAKE them all fit on a cd but I DO NOT want my pictures resized! So the question is ~ For $14.95 do they have some kind of cd's with a lot more memory or do they do them on more than 1 cd OR do they resize them which would be really bad? If you resize a photo then you can no longer print it out nicely as a large size photo. Also if it would be one you'd want to zoom in and crop then you couldn't. I will be able to take around 1700 pictures but I could take over 600 easily just on a weekend camping trip so I will have to real choosey about the pics I take, lol.

By the way, I am one of those people who takes a ton of photo's (on a daily basis even!) but I still find plenty of time to play with and enjoy my 4 young children. You might remember "seeing" your kids play or that special moment in your mind but when you are gone so are all your memories! My kids will be able to hand down literally millions of memories for many, many years! I know I wish my parents would have taken more photo's of my childhood.....my kids will NEVER have to say that, lol.

'See I don't have that problem because we use the 256 cards. We have two of those, and we were curious about the resizing and such later.

My DH still wants to use the CD option at the CVS.

My camera is 6.1 MP and when we go to Italy this fall - i plan to take at least 2 - 3 gigs with me and delete any really horrible photos each day....i want to be sure i have enough memory space for all the special shots...and after that trip i'll know just how much memory i'll need for our next cruise. I took about 1000 photos last cruise but have a new camera with higher MP....

We take a ton of pics also...you could say I'm a shutter bug...I can easly go through hundreds of pics a day....That's the GREAT thing about digital...you can snap away nonstop and just discard what you don't want (I find on vacation I'll wait and discard most when I get home and really have a chance to look at the photos....because imo no matter how big your screen is on your camera you really can't see the quality of the photo until you get it on a pc)....Anyhow we have always decided to tote the laptop with us....for many reasons...some of which are...the cost of burning to a disk....we take so many photos that it would cost WAY to much for shutters to burn cd's at $14.95...I think after our cruise this last time I had over 15 cd's burned....secondly we want to make sure the cd's are burned correctly (not that I've heard of shutter doing it wrong...but I have heard of other places doing it incorrectly) and third by bringing our laptop not only can we save them to the computer...but also burn copies right then and there so we have backups :teeth:

I like the idea of the hard drive....but it also worries me. Again I've heard of things not being transfered correctly or something happening to the hard drive itself (which I realize the same thing could happen to the laptop...but that's why we burn cd's also)...... I'd hate to get home and realize that something happened and my photos were gone. With the laptop...I can visualize with a slide show and check my burned cd's.

Anyhow...that's just my thought.

OH...I'd also recomend getting another card or two...I don't think the SD cards are to spendy compaired to some of the other cards out there....so stock up :thumbsup2
