Memory card need reformatting - can I still get my pictures?

I am the OP... I just wanted to give an update. I was able to recover about 90% of my pictures with a free program I found online. Thanks so much to all of you - I never even knew such a thing existed!! I'm disappointed that not all of the pictures came out, and some files were still corrupted - I'd get 1/2 the picture or the color was missing, or the top & bottom of the picture were flip-flopped, but I am SO thankful for the ones I have.

You might pay for a program. It's not clear if you used a freeware program or a pirated program. A commercial program may work better than a free program.

I used a freeware program. I tend to take multiple shots of each picture, so I still got over 500 pictures and I'm pretty happy with the results.

What was the name of the software? I have a corrupted section on my card, and I am having problems getting my pictures off of it, too.

Thanks!

I had that problem with a SanDisk card. I went to the SanDisk website and they had some software that recovered all but 1 picture for me.

What I'm trying to say is go to the manufacturers website and they might have some recovery software on their site.

I don't remember the name of the software I used - it was Art something.

ETA: I just googled "memory card recovery" and found it, along with a ton of other programs. The one I used was called "Art Plus Digital Photo Recovery" and was free, and pretty easy to use, although not too fast - took about 3 hours for 500-some pictures. I wish I had tried more programs to see if another one could get the rest of the lost photos, but on that day that I discovered it was corrupt, I was headed to my 2nd graders school musical and needed to take pictures, so I reformatted the card as soon as I recovered the WDW photos.

I had a Sony card do the same thing, I called Sony hotline and I was fortunate that my Sony camera has its own memory and saved all the photos in its memory. The Sony operator was able to walk me thru the process to get my pictures back.

I don't think you'd get any differences with a different program. They mostly all do the same thing, and they pretty much all take a long time as they scan your entire drive for bits of the deleted files.

a good reason to own more than one card,,

the program I mentioned earlier recovered my files after reformatting and reinstalling my windows OS, so it might recover the pics the other program failed to recover,

my experience was, that the program I paid 70 dollars for recovered far more pics than several free or low cost programs I had tried...
