Memories of Little Green Men and Sardines (6/8-17, 2010) **FINAL UPDATE 2-25-2011**

So, it just took me about an hour to type an update to my PTR & guess what happened? For some reason, my computer wouldn't allow me to log-in to DIS & I lost my entire update!!! :sad2:

I'm not sure if I'll have more time later to update or not. DS has been sick & he was up almost the entire night last night (so I was as well). I will try to post an update later or possibly tomorrow! Sometimes technology really frustrates me!!! :surfweb:

My basic point of my hour-long update was...what should I do about a stroller??? Last year we rented from the parks & it worked out very well for us because we were only there 3 days & went to a park every day. DS also loved riding in the stroller last year...but hasn't been in one for over 4 months. I'm not sure if he'll even stay in a stroller this time. :confused3 We basically have 4 options.
1) Bring ours from home
2) Rent from a company (cost around $95 for 10 days & they deliver to your resort & pick-up the day you leave)
3) Rent from the parks again (will cost around $52 for 4 days)
4) Buy one at the local Walmart or Target (cost around $40-60)

I have no idea what to do. I think I'm leaning towards just renting from the parks, but would love suggestions! It seems that all moms I talk to suggest bringing your own, but I don't think we really want to do that. I would really, really, really, really appreciate any suggestions at all! :)

Hope everyone had a good weekend! Sorry I haven't posted recently...my first niece was born this past week! First girl in the family so very exciting!!! I already have plans to buy her "Princess" items in the parks this trip! :cutie:

Thank you for the link to the site! I use allears.net all the time for info but haven't read the MVMCP stuff yet! I will take a look at it right now. I thought it was May 1st, I'm glad you clarified that! :santa:

I am very excited to go this year! I can't wait to go to the party & see all of the decor at the resorts! Is there anything in particular you would suggest to definitely see or do?

We always try to get a spot on the curb. I'm 53 and I can't believe that I sit on the floor to watch a parade. LOL. I always bring a blanket to sit on. Then me and the hubby take turns walking around to pass the time. He waits while I go buy my pins. They have a special pin for each night of the party. You can buy them for the night you go and any that are already out from previous parties. And don't forget to get the free cookies and hot chocolate. It's just a really nice way to spend a night. We've lucked out the last couple years. It hasn't been too cold.

Congrats on the new niece!!! :yay: As far as the stroller goes, I have always just bought mine from home. I had the Chicco lightweight stroller... To was compact and very easy to handle getting on and off the bus. Like you said, I think it is just a matter of personal preference. I liked bring mine from home b/c it was also helpful to have in the airport and at the end of the night walking back to the room

Awwwww, congrats on your new niece! It will be so much fun shopping for cute "princess" things for her. :cutie: Sorry your DS has been sick, too, how is he feeling?

First, congratulations on your niece!! princess:

Stroller question: do you want a stroller around your resort and to/from bus stops? If so, than renting in Disney is not an option. Do you need a stroller at home? If not you have two choices: buy one and then offer to sell to someone waiting in line for a stroller at Disney to make back a little in your investment or have a second one at home.

Thank you for the congrats!

About the stroller, we don't necessarily need one for around the resorts & to/from bus stops. I think I would just end up pushing around an empty stroller & it would be much harder to chase my DS around! My DH and I aren't even sure he will stay in a stroller. He loves walking/running around & hasn't been in the stroller for months. I have to experiment this summer & see if he will even stay in a stroller! If we do buy one, we definitely don't want to bring it back home, so thanks for the suggestion about offering to sell it to someone. I was trying to figure out how we'd leave it there! There are some companies that will rent a stroller (you can call them or do it online) & they will leave it at your hotel for your check-in date. While that is convenient, it will cost around $95 so it would be cheaper just to buy one & then try to sell it. As you can see, I still can't decide what to do! lol

Thank you!!! I am absolutely loving being an aunt again!!! I have 2 nephews so it is nice to finally have a niece. I think she will be spoiled! :cutie:

My DS is feeling a little better...he has a lot of congestion & a cough. I also called the dr & she is on vacation right now. But the nurse was very helpful & told me what meds to give him. He isn't a huge fan of the meds but he has been taking them & they have helped with both the congestion & cough. He also slept for 12 hours last night so I think it helped to get the extra rest! :)

I'm still not sure what to do. In my personal opinion, I would just do what you do...bring my own stroller from home. I think my DS is the most familiar with it, it reclines so he could nap at the parks/while we're eating/walking back to room, etc. It also has a huge basket underneath for storage for my diaper bag & souvenirs or extra food from restaurants. I have a compartment on top that I use for my digital camera...its nice because it just flips open so I could quickly get my camera out & take pics! It also has 2 drink holders which would be super convenient at the parks & resort. I also think it would be nice to have at the airport, especially since DS is running around so much. Last year, he was only 10 months old so he just kinda sat wherever we put him. Now this year, he will be running around like crazy! lol My preference is probably between my own stroller & the Disney park strollers. But my DH will be the one handling the stroller on/off the buses & carrying it/folding it up...and I already know his opinion. He didn't like it last year whenever we went & other dads were folding up the stroller, taking extra time, sitting the stroller in front of everyone's feet, etc. I know he won't want to be the one to "inconvenience" everyone else on the buses. So, as you can see, I still have no idea what I'm doing! Thanks for the advice!

Hi Nancy! Thanks for the suggestion about sitting on the curb! I've actually heard of others saying thats the best view! I think it would be nice because you would literally get a front-row seat! :) I think I might suggest it to DH and he and DS could sit on the curb & I could stand behind them. I take pictures like craaaazy...everyone is always commenting on how I always have a camera in my hand! So it would probably be better if I stood behind them. After reading your post & some other reports, I will definitely be taking a blanket! I actually saw a blanket from another persons trip report that I want to buy on our trip!!! It has the Cinderella Castle on it & looks super comfy! Good idea with one person holding the spot & the other can go shop or whatever they want to do. That will be great for me for 2 reasons. One is because I loooove to shop & DH doesn't. Two is because I don't think DS will sit & wait for the parade for long...maybe DS & mommy can do some shopping while daddy holds our parade spot for us!

Thank you for telling me about the pins. Do you know if they have different Vinylmations at each party? Or do they just have a group of 12 of them for all parties? I just started collecting them!! :) I am excited because my parents are going for Halloween & we are going for Christmas...so I will get 2 holiday Vinylmations this year!!!

I already have the Castle show, hot choco, and the character greetings on my list of things to do for the MVMCP! I won't miss out on hot choco (although I do prefer a good latte!) I cannot wait to go...I don't know what I am most excited for! Probably the Christmas decor, parades, and fireworks! :santa:

I agree with your husband that it is very inconvenient that some people wait to fold up their strollers and collect there belonging until the bus arrives. I however think that it is common sense that once you see the resort bus coming that you start then. I totally get what you are saying!

You are right about that!!! You can see the bus coming from a distance, so I agree that they should start getting their stuff ready at that point. My son likes to sit on the benches anyway, so I think we could just have the stroller folded up & ready to go as soon as we get to the bus stop. It may take some convincing, but I'm going to try to get my husband to bring our stroller. After reading everyone else's opinions & really thinking about it, I think its the best option. I have a Graco stroller but it cost around $140 and I think its dumb to buy another stroller when we have a perfectly good (barely used!) one already! Plus, if we use it, great...and if not, at least we didn't waste money renting or purchasing another stroller.

I'm planning to test my son this summer to see how likely he is to get in the stroller! Although its weird because he will do things for me that he refuses to do when his dad is around...like he knows he will let him get away with anything! lol (like he will sit perfectly in his car seat even if I take him to ten different places in one day...but he will throw a fit when we try to get him in his car seat if my DH is around...weird, isn't it?) :confused3

I just realized I haven't been to your trip report in awhile, so I'm going over there right now! How are your plans coming along? :)

DevonsDisneyMom -- Why aren't our "countdown tickers" working on our signatures??? I noticed yours wasn't there (it just says some words in the link but doesn't show the ticker) and then after I posted my reply, I noticed mine is gone too! Hopefully its just a glitch & they get it fixed! :rotfl:

I just figured this out, so I hope you don't mind me answering for Reese... The website the tickers are from has a virus I guess so WebmasterAlex has disabled them until they can get their site cleaned out... You need to go to a different website and make a new ticker! I know wdwenchanted and I think it's called mickeypath has tickers... I used myvacationcountdown...

I wanted to post an update, but I really haven't done anything new regarding trip plans. I have been on DIS reading trip reports & getting more info on the QS Dining Plan, CBR, and the Christmas decor/events/parades/MVMCP, etc.

I am trying to decide whether or not I want to add the QS Dining Plan. Originally I wasn't going to but now I think I might. Even though we will be off-property a few days, I think we will still use all our meals. DS will be under 3 so he won't get a plan for himself, but he will most likely just share meals with me (or we will pay OOP for his meals). That means we would have to also pay OOP for 4 meals...Chef Mickey's, Coral Reef, San Angel Inn, and Crystal Palace. I am considering doing Garden Grill or 1900 Park Fare for a character meal instead of CP. I seriously need to decide what to do before June 2nd when I can make ADRs!!! I don't want to get the regular dining plan because we won't use all 9 or 10 sitdown meals. You know what would solve all of my problems??? FREE dining for December!!! :lmao:

If we don't get free dining, I'm thinking I will cut out 1 character meal & just do Chef Mickey's. I have been reading lots of reports & I love the photos I've seen! But if I can find a better deal or get free dining, I won't have to stress about any of this! I heard they just gave out a bunch of PINs for free dining until August 14th or 20th so I'm hoping it will extend to the end of the year.

In other news (well, its exciting to me so its news! lol) -- I have been reading a lot of reports from last year & it seems that the 2009 merchandise wasn't out at most places by December. Alot of people have reported seeing mostly 2010 merchandise. This, of course, got me into panic mode because I missed out on getting 2009 scrapbook sets last year (which I really wanted) because I didn't buy it on our trip. We have a local Disney Outlet that opens from mid-January until mid-March to sell the prior-years merchandise. I thought I could save about 40-50% and just buy it there. Wouldn't you know, I drove all the way up there & the store was gone already! It was only the beginning of March & I was very disappointed! I guess there's always ebay! Anyway, since last year was my DS's first trip to Disney, I really wanted to 2009 scrapbook set...so I wasn't going to take a chance that the 2010 set wouldn't be there in December! (although now I realize my parents are going down in October so they could have bought it for me then...oops!)

Anyway, so what did I do? I placed an order on Monday through Disneystore.com and got my order...TODAY!!!! How exciting! I ordered 2 Vinylmations for myself because I started collecting them, a Christmas stocking (it was on sale) for my DS, the 2010 scrapbook set, and a 2010 collector's spoon for myself. It was like Christmas day!!! I even got an email from Disney that said "Your order has been delivered...Have a Magical Day." :wizard: Somehow just seeing that email put me in a good mood!

Here are some pics of my Vinylmations & of my DS opening the box. He was sooo excited when he saw the box. He tried opening it & after I cut the tape, he took out one item at a time & handed them to me. Of course this was after he looked to see what it was & "oohed" and "ahhed" over it!

No problem for answering for Reese! I completely appreciate you explaining it to me! :goodvibes

Wow...that explains it. Whenever I logged on, my virus blocked popped up & said "An attack has been blocked." Maybe thats why. Thats absolutely GREAT that the webmasters are on top of it so quickly!!! Thank you Webmaster Alex!!!! :thumbsup2

I will definitely go to another website & get a new ticker. Thanks again for the info!

Here are the photos of the Disney Store stuff & some of my DS opening the box.

I didn't explain it yet but I haven't posted any "people photos" on here. I worry a lot about privacy issues on the Internet. While I do trust everyone on DIS that I have come across so far, I don't trust the general public! So a fellow DIS-er told me about adding the "sticker" to faces to make it more private. Thanks for the idea! Now I can post my photos on here!

There's also a photo of my Disney planning binder! I finally printed a cover for it, but my colored ink is low so it looks kinda weird. My new ink is supposed to be delivered within the next few weeks so I'll just print a new cover once it comes.

So right on so many levels!!! :rotfl: I too just can't see forking out the $$$ when I had a perfectly fine stroller at home!!!

My son used the stroller in Disney until he was 5!!! :goodvibes It's a lot of walking in a day! He needed every now and again... Plus it was great to have to place to store all of our stuff thru out the day!!!

Well that explains why my stink computer at home is acting all crazy and slow!!! Darn viruses! Thanks for the heads up Toni, guess I am going to have to get that fixed when I get home from work!!! :surfweb:

Woo hoo!!! You picked up some great things!!!

And I so totally feel ya on the free dining thing! That would solve all my problems! :rotfl: We are already booked on the dining plan, but would love to save a few bucks! :woohoo:

So I just did a bunch of research online & I have determined that I'm probably insane! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I think I'm changing my vacation dates to the middle of November before Thanksgiving instead of after. I think the crowd levels at the parks will be much lower then as well as crowds at MVMCP.

I haven't really decided yet & I have tons of things to find out first...like can the discount I booked with be transferred to another week? The only good part of changing is that flights are already out for these dates. :rotfl:

I really don't know what to do...I'm just confused right now! lol After reading everything, I have mixed emotions...like this
:confused3
:guilty:
:sad2:
:)
:scared1:

Told ya I'm going crazy!!! :rotfl2:

Regardless of what dates I decide, I am definitely changing MVMCP to the beginning of our vacation. Maybe the first day or the third day. I definitely want to go to MVMCP before we have our day at MK so that we can skip the rides/shows we saw during MVMCP on our MK day. Does that make sense?

Regardless of what dates I decide, I am definitely changing MVMCP to the beginning of our vacation. Maybe the first day or the third day. I definitely want to go to MVMCP before we have our day at MK so that we can skip the rides/shows we saw during MVMCP on our MK day. Does that make sense?

We are going to MVMCP on the 30th I think... all th research i have done says that both early December and Early November are great times to go... I did see that November is not value season with Disney so to me meant that they can get the higher amount on the rooms so it may be a little busier... :confused3

hey! i just found your ptr, and am subbing! we are going in decmeber, the middle-ish, hopefully 11-17, but probably a bit later. i have a son who will be a littel over 2 1/1 as well! we went last august and had a blast! as far as the stroller thing goes, i wouldn't bring anything bigger than an ubrella stroller. my mom got ds a maclaren on salelast christmas and it was perfect. its is a TON of walking, as you know, and my son is not good at holding hands, and staying close by, so there is no way i would go without a stroller in any kind of crowd. plus he inevitably gets tired and wants me to carry him when it's the least convenient. i have found it really nice to have the stroller at the airport, so that i can keep him in one place while collecting stuff from security etc. renting a stroller just seems so expensive, especially in the parks!

i'm trying to talk my family into doing a photo session as well, i still need to look into the pricing!

Girl, you are not crazy!!! Disney planning is an obsession!!! :rotfl: See, I think I am of the minority here... While I liked MVMCP, I have to say that I was not that impressed with the party. MNSSHP is so much better, anyway, MVMCP is definitely worth doing once I will say that. We are still up in the air about going or not... Devon and I have both been to it, but his friend and his mom have not, so we will see.

I will say that I think that it is wise to attend the party earlier in your trip before you plan to go to MK, then that way, what ever you do not get to do at the party, you can hit up right away your full day at MK.

Thank you...I actually have had the WORST day ever!!! Your comment actually made me feel SOOOO much better!!! So THANK YOU!!! :goodvibes

We might not get to attend MVMCP at all...we might have to wait to go until January. Or we might have to go sometime in early to mid-December. I was stressing MAJORLY because I thought December would be crazy! I'm really concerned about how my DS will react with the large crowds. I thought November would be lower crowds & easier on him. Now that I read your comment, I feel a lot better! I am happy to hear that early December has low crowds as well! Maybe I can even get a cheaper deal. ;)

This is another reason I was stressing! We might not have final dates for our trip until AFTER I have to make my ADR's or maybe not until September or October...so I am obviously completely stressing!!! I had my meals pretty much planned out & don't want to miss out on them. I really want to do the character dining for my son & will cry if I can't get into Coral Reef! My biggest concern is that I won't get to see the Christmas decor at all the resorts which is why we were planning a vacation at this time of the year! I might not ever get another chance to see Disney at Christmas time!

I actually cried...does that mean I'm officially obsessed with Disney planning? :rotfl2: Anyway, my DH won't know because his job is a PITA if you know what I mean. He isn't allowed to request off time for vacations, he just has to go whenever he's laid off or at the end of a job. Its such a pain! I didn't get to have any sit-down meals last vacation because we didn't know until about a month before when we were going...so obviously all the good dining was already filled up. It was just a kinda "wing-it" type of vacation because we had nothing planned ahead of time. I'm a planner & an organizer so this was great for me to be able to plan everything for this time around! I do not like chaos especially on vacations! lol Oh well...hopefully by June I will find something out & will be back on track!

Hi & WELCOME!!! :yay:

We actually may have to change our dates for our trip, so I might be there around the same time as you. If we change, it will probably be December 8th through the 17th.

Its nice to hear your son is the same age as mine! It will be great to share tips & advice with you! :)

You are completely right about the stroller. I am frustrated about it because I don't want to bring the full-size stroller but my son is already too heavy for his umbrella stroller. I will have to research the MacLaren strollers. I think their weight limit may be more than the one I have...that would be great to have. I'm planning to search yard sales this summer so hopefully I can find something at a great bargain!

You are right about the crowds...my son is just starting to hold our hands while walking in public. He does very good with it BUT if he sees something that interests him, he will run to it as fast as his little legs will carry him! :) I don't want that to happen at Disney. Its hard enough to keep up with him in our yard let alone in a huge park with tons of people! I completely agree! I wouldn't ever go to the parks without a stroller. A lot of people don't like them, but I actually didn't have many problems with the Disney strollers & thought they were very convenient. I just didn't like that they don't recline. It was hard holding him in the 80 degree temperatures for an hour while sitting on a bench! I know they are expensive but we just liked the convenience of not having to bring our own & take it on the buses. We are getting a rental car this time, so maybe we will bring ours & just put it in the trunk of the car. I haven't decided 100% yet what to do. Thank you for all of your suggestions!

I can give you a website to use for the Private Photo Session. I personally think the best deal is the CD because you get all of the photos on the CD plus you get to chose from 3 packages.

Here's the info from the Stitch Kingdom website:
"Disney Resorts Private Photo Shoot - You can arrange for private 30 minute photo sessions with a Disney's PhotoPass photographer at the Grand Floridian, Beach Club, Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge or Animal Kingdom Lodge (Saratoga Springs is no longer offered). The sessions includes around 40 photos (limited only by time) taken around the picturesque resorts and their beaches. Please note that as of September 1, 2008, Portrait sessions at the resorts are a separate entity from the Disney's PhotoPass system in the theme parks. While both Parks and Portraits use the same system for their photos, they are separate products. There is also a new pricing structure in place, which is as follows:

Disney's PhotoPass Portrait Session Photo Package - For a price of $49.95, you will get your choice of one of the following packages: (A) 8x10 (2), 5x7 (3); (B) 5x7 (2), 4x6 (4 sets of 2); (C) 5x7 (7). You will be able to choose the pose for each print, so you can have up to five different poses for Package A, up to 6 different poses for Package B and up to 7 different poses for Package C

Disney's PhotoPass Portrait Session PhotoCD - For a price of $99.95, you will get your choice of photo package as explained above plus all of the photos on a PhotoCD.

Note you will not be able to enhance the photos on the Portrait Session PhotoCD, but you will be given a PhotoPass ID to use on disneyphotopass.com to make any desired edits/enhancements and future purchases.

Reports from guests who have participated in the photo sessions are overwhelmingly positive, although guests are under no obligation to make a purchase if they are not satisfied with the photos. Available times are seasonal, starting daily at 8 am until 7 pm or sunset, whichever comes first. Call 407-824-1700 to make reservations up to 30 days in advance or for additional information."

I hope that helps you!!! :)

THANK YOU!!! Actually, even though you may be the minority, I have heard others say that the MVMCP is not worth the extra money. While I do have my heart set on going to the party once in my life & am afraid I might not get another opportunity to do so, I still would be happy just seeing the lights & resort decor. The main thing I want to show my son is the fireworks & the parades, so I can still see those without going to MVMCP. We are also able to see EPCOT's fireworks from the pool at our resort, so that will be great on our free days! I'm just hoping we will still be able to go in December. If we aren't able, I feel a lot better after reading your comment because I know that its not the end of the world! lol

You are right as well about the timing as well. I definitely am changing it (if we get to attend the party) to go to the MVMCP at the beginning of our trip and our MK day towards the end. That way, we will be able to ride the rides & go to the shops at MK that we didn't go to at the party! I don't know why I didn't think of that before! Thanks for the advice!!!

I am so intrigued by the Vinylmations--I guess I need to see them in person to figure them out. Cute things from Disney Store!!

On our last trip, I had no idea what Vinylmations even were! I saw a display of them, I think it was in Fast Track at EPCOT?? After I got back from my trip, I started researching them a little bit & now I love them & collect them!

Whenever you buy them, you don't know which one you are getting! I think thats half the excitement! You just buy a little box & inside there is a silver sealed package that includes a little card & the Vinylmation. Most Vinylmations cost around $9.95-$13.95 at the parks (just to give you an idea).

Once you start collecting, if there is a particular one that you have to have, you can always go onto ebay. They will cost more but you will know ahead of time which one you are getting. IMO, I think that ruins half the fun of Vinylmations! I love getting the little box & guessing which one it will be & then opening it to find out! :)
