is generally when we go. I find the best deals for these dates and the crowds are not too bad. As long as you go before the second week of june the crowds are generally not to bad. And if you stay on site the crowds will not be your concern at all.
We generally go May 21-29 . Sometimes we are there on memorial day and sometimes we are not. We have went this time period for the last 4 years. Like you we use to go during July but the crowds were often very heavy, the heat very intense, and our patience very thin. So about four years ago we decided to go, as soon as, school was out where we live. The timing of our vacations made them much more enjoyable. While the temperatures were warm, seldom was it too uncomfortable.
Just a thought. If you choose to go during this time don't stress about it if you are staying on-site. You will have a wonderful time.
In addition, sometimes universal has specials on their annual passes if you purchase and redeem them before may 31st.
