Memorable Wedding Favours

I inadvertently overdid the wedding favors. :wave2:

MY plan was to have Mouse Ear hats with all of my guests' names on them to be use as place-cards AND favors. So we had that.

I had forgotten earlier in planning that I had agreed to the large bars of chocolates wrapped in personalized wrapping that my husband designed. And they were awesome. Our first date, engagement date and wedding date were the same day, only different years, so this was on the wrapped and was very cute.

Then, my mom shows up at the wedding reception with a surprise. She had clear but tinted soaps made each with a little Disney figure (like a Cinderella, a Beast, etc.) in them wrapped in my wedding colors in tulle. So she handed those out to everyone.

And finally, our centerpieces were also favors! We had the Mickey icon topiary in a cute little pot at each table. Since we only had 50 guests, pretty much each family got one to take home.

For our wedding last August, we made chocolate chip cookies and brownies. We used clear cellophane bags to package them and tied the bags with Mickey and Minnie ribbon as a subtle Disney touch.

The last wedding I attended as a guest, we received a CD the couple made. It was sad to see most left behind on the tables.

had a small wedding but we gave out small seedlings of trees (really small) but its been over 15 years and every now and then when we visit someone they point out in the yard "that's your tree". Kind of neat to see how they have grown.

At a recent wedding, they had a photo booth and each family, or group of friends were encouraged to take photos. The favor was that everyone in your group got a strip of your photos. An additional strip was pasted into a memory book for the bride and groom.

I always like the edible ones- some of the best were boxes of Godiva chocolates and boxes of chocolate truffles. Also liked bottles of wine that the grooms father made himself with cute labels on them. Lottery tickets at each place setting were cool too!
Ones I don't care for are glasses with bride and grooms names on them-I mean what in the world are you supposed to do with those?? I don't like trees since I would never plant one on my property it would just be a waste. Picture frames-have more than I need already.

21 yrs ago I received a Lenox jewelry box. A wedding favor I will never forget. I did forget who's wedding it was from.:scratchin

From a friend's wedding we got a small tea cup/saucer candle. Both are sitting on my kitchen windowsill. For our wedding I made cake pops and gave those as favors. I will NEVER eat or make another cake pop as long as I live. Ever.

About 15 years ago DH and I went to a friends wedding in December. Their favor was a heart shaped ornament. Every december DH and I remember the wedding fondly. It's one if our favorite ornaments.

Sadly, the couple just got divorced but we remember the wedding itself and most of our friends that were there do too.

My daughter's wedding was last June. We gave a box of 4 chocolates from a local chocolate company- one was the favorite of the bride's grandmother who had recently passed away

For our wedding we have small packages of coffee/hot cocoa with our wedding info, and maple candies from a local company. We also had cider doughnuts available to go, again from a local company.

I've been to weddings in 2 different regions of the country - ranging from full sit down dinners with open bar to cake and punch receptions - and have never, ever received a wedding favor. And I have to say, I am perfectly fine with that.
Same for me and I've lived in about 8 cities from San Francisco to NY, etc.

But I've helped prepare "goodie bags" for the out of town guests. Bottles of water, fruit, mints, map of area, other snacks. Those are always welcome.

My sister had a Christmas themed wedding and gave out wedding bell ornaments. People rang them during the reception to get the couple to kiss instead of clinking their glasses. Every Christmas when we decorate the tree, I think of her wedding. DH and I opted for burgundy and white m&ms wrapped in tulle for our wedding. I also received a wine bottle stopper for a wedding once. We don't drink much wine, but it did get some use.

DH and I met in a casino and we gave out personalized decks of cards. Many friends and family still use them from time to time.

We had a card at each place setting with a scratch off lottery ticket, shiny penny attached to the corner & the card said "We feel lucky you were here" (or something like that)... We thought it was fun & since we our honeymoon was in Vegas it made even more sense. :) A couple people won a couple of dollars but no big winners.

What a cute idea!!!

One of my friends did the same thing & it was a hit. One woman at our table won $50!

I am getting married in October and instead of favors, we plan on making a donation to our local SPCA.

The best favor I ever received was a CD containing the first dance, bridal party dance, father daughter dance, and then each member of the bridal party got to select a song for the CD. Great music, and served as a great memory of the wedding. Unfortunately, I think that idea may be obsolete as alot of people get their music digitally now.

I think most favors are a waste of money and end up in the trash. Even if you think an item is cute, it doesn't mean your guests will. I'm a fan of edible favors, but would rather the couple just saved the money.

What may seem useful or meaningful to the bride (and groom/so) may not be useful to the guests!

My mom made popouri sachets for my sisters wedding in 1990. While they could be used in any drawer to freshen it up, others may not enjoy that.

I went to a wedding and they had chocolate dipped spoons! That was great because I used it in my tea at dessert and didn't have to bring home some piece of memorabilia with a wedding date that wasn't mine.

My dh and I did a Hershey bar with a wrapper we made. The wrapper was a picture of our brick. Bad omen but we bought, wait no, I bought the brick before we got married with our wedding date. So throw away the wrapper and eat the candy and you don't have to bring anything home.
