Memorable People. Do they remember us?

Years ago now. Young girl, first day at the Emporium. Beautiful big brown eyes. She and the cash register were not good friends. We chatted a little. I promised in a week shecwould be able to teach the next newbee. It was a simple conversation in September.

I returned in early December and wandered back into the Emporium. She walked up to me and said "welcome back, nice to see you again".

Ok, how many people had she seen in 2 1/2 months, a bazillion?

I immediately found the manager to pass along my amazement. Manager thanked me. Said she was not surprised. Next trip she was gone---promoted into management.

I was just floored that day in December.

Sure they remember us. My kids look so forward to seeing their favorite cast members. Joe at via Napoli Kevin at akl Wayne king pin at akl are just a few. We think of them during the year and look forward to seeing our disney friends. Cast members make our vacation magical.

Not sure what this might say about our family, but the guy who delivers room service at the Poly remembered us from the time before & that we ordered the same thing all the time, LOL.

We stay at WL often. On one of our trips that we weren't staying at WL, but were visiting for dinner, the greeter at the front door recognized us from a previous trip. We had a nice little chat with him, told him we were disappointed to not be staying at the lodge for that trip, but we HAD to make a trip over to eat at least.

We eat at Ohana's on every single trip. On one trip as my boys were getting up to do the coconut races the lady that leads the songs and activities, Lipoa, said "Hey I know you two boys". Then she looked over to our table, waved at us and said something like "Hello cousins, so nice to see you again". My SIL was with us and she said "you guys have been too many times if the activities lady recognizes yall". We ended up getting a really great picture of her and the boys that night.

Nothing mindblowing but something that will always stick with me Disneywise:

In October my girlfriend and I went on Star Tours (in the morning) and the CM outside said "Welcome to Star Tours!" as we went into line. Towards the end of the night we figured we'd go on one more time and as we got in line the same CM said, "Welcome back!".

I was impressed because who knows how many faces that guy has seen since us.

I feel like it is definitely possible for them to remember you. Being a person working in the service industry, there are the people who I see daily who of course I remember, but then there are those who I remember from months previous because of a bigger event/interaction.

On the Disney side of things, we've made some great friends throughout the parks that way! A server at Tony's, Shelly, transferred over to BOG and when we ate there she remembered us, we chatted a bit, and now we're pretty good friends. Entertainment cast members are even more spectacular at it sometimes, I've been seriously caught off guard when a princess mentions they've seen me before and I didn't remember it, or when they're hanging out with someone else. Heck, last month we were leaving an audition and had a girl come up and say hi to us…turns out we'd met one of her friends the day previous in MK!

Obviously, the longer/more funny/more memorable the interaction is, the more likely they are to remember you, but I've also had it go the way of "you're here a lot" or "I remember you from Fairytale Hall the other day" kinda thing, sometimes it's just in passing, sometimes it's something more!

1) Not to burst bubble,s but we rarely remember individuals or families.
2) We see far too many people.
3) Daily.
4) And, we do a lot for many, including Pixie Dust.
5) UNLESS, there is something that really stands out.
6) I can remember only a handful of folks - and some by name.
. . . the H***** family who are retired peanut farmers from Georgia, who greet us by name at OKW each year
. . . Betty and Anne C******* from Illinois, who are two nice old sisters that I joke with (insider jokes)
. . . the S*********** family whose kids come up and hug us every visit from when I helped calm one of them YEARS ago

Wow - no wonder Rusty is part of your signature.

Several years ago we took my niece (6) and nephew (8) to Disney World. One of the things that we had decided to do was breakfast at the castle with the princesses. My nephew was not thrilled and is relatively shy. He didn't look excited about responding to any of the princess interaction and only quietly answered questions when asked. Mary Poppins became concerned and asked him what was wrong. He told her he really didn't care for princesses. She gave him a big hug, teased him until she got a smile out of him and then moved along. We ended up going to the MSEP the next evening and down the street comes Mary Poppins. None of us even gave it a second thought as it was dark and the characters interact with so many people on any given day. As she got closer, she spotted my nephew and stooped down beside him. She leaned in and quietly said "So.....do you like the princesses yet?", and then got up and continued down the parade route. He sat with a big grin the rest of the evening. He talked about Mary Poppins remembering him, more than any ride or show he saw. That is Disney magic at it's finest. :thumbsup2

This brought tears to my eyes and that's hard to do these days. :thumbsup2

Oh yeah, you definitely remember guests, even if you don't remember their names. I worked at Universal from 97-02, and can reel off a handful of stories about the funny/stupid/crazy things guests did. Some are just memories where you never actually knew the name of the person, but they made such an impression that you remember them. Like the guy that spent 15 minutes arguing with me that when he was there in 1995, BTTF was *RIGHT HERE*!! ... as we were standing in the sorting tent of the Trike Encounter attraction. He absolutely insisted that we must have moved the ride to make space for IoA, because he *KNEW* it had been there last time. Or the guy that picked me up and slammed me against a float because I'd had to pick up his daughter that was about to get run over by a float and he wasn't watching her. Some you actually saw again, and learned their names and remembered them (of course I've long since forgotten them), like the family that game out to Mardi Gras every night and "adopted" me and another one of the parade performers (even renamed me ... Chloe Marina ... yeah, total stripper name :lmao:). Or the young man with autism that was freaking out in the middle of Toon Lagoon because he'd lost his family; when he described what his dad was wearing, I knew where to start looking for them, because his dad's Jaguars shirt had caught my eye a few minutes before.

I was a CP for Fall 2013, I do remember a lot of the kids who were particularly cute or sweet. One kid helped me clean up the area and was an all-around prince charming I couldn't stand it. I had a very nice conversation with an older gentlemen who I ran into elsewhere later that week. He was fascinated in the program and I could tell he was a big Disney nerd, I enjoyed it. I could easily remember someone in the week, one cool kid pin traded with me one day and I ran into him again a few days later.

I remember clearly this older group was walking near the store where I was alone and came over and started trying on hats. Then they asked to Hula Hoop with me, it was one of the funniest moments on my CP, they were the sweetest people and they had the craziest clothes but that's because they were such kids at heart. That was the first time I ever had an adult hula hoop. It definitely put me in a great mood for the rest of the day.

Some definitely do remember us. We met Will when he was in the CP. I noticed that he was from near my home and went to the college I almost went to. So we chatted. Ran into him on his day off enjoying HS several times. Went back a year later pregnant and he remembered us. Then we went back when DD was a year old and I have picks of him dancing with her in the MK. Will most definitely remembers us.

A bartender knows us well and by name. Even have seen him in St. Augustine when he was on his own vacation. Knowing a bartender sounds so bad, but hey were on vacation and like CG's lounge better than table service.

Also some of the staff at the GF know us semi well or they are VERY good at faking it lol

We're always pleasantly surprised when cast members remember the kids (or adults) between trips.

The most fun case of this for our family was a particular Mulan who stuck around for years and always managed to interact with my kids and remember them.

The last year we saw her, we had given up on finding her after several days of seeing "other" Mulans. We were literally jogging through the world showcase from the Mexico side pushing the double-stroller to make it to Germany to meet up with family when, passing through China, we hear someone yell, "CHENS! Chens! Turn that rickshaw around."

Apparently, our Mulan was coming out of the pavilion and saw us across all of the people and decided she needed to catch us.

((It might pay to mention that my kids are bi-racial Asian and the first time we met this Mulan my oldest was dressed to match her and was super-adorable at age 2 in her costume.))

We always try to catch Miss Hildegard on Main Street. She and my son had a great time together taking pictures and chatting when he was 2 and she still recognizes our family now and he's 9! And, we know the guys from Off Kilter recognize us. We always go see them and talk to them after the show when we can. That's just another layer of the Disney magic!

My family always has great interactions with the Citizens of Hollywood. They all remember us and we've gotten to know several of them very well, just from coming to see them and they remembering us. However, we're not the only ones because there are always so many families and guests they recognize, the Citizens are really the best. However I've also had other entertainment CMs whether in meet and greets, or especially at Move It Shake It recognize us.
I also have a really great long term relationship with a specific friend of Drizella, actually documented in this youtube video here.

It's really the great CMs like these that keep me and my family coming back to WDW year after year.

I really should email Disney about a couple of the characters we experienced - Belle and Ariel.
They were truly amazing. Whenever I look back at the pictures from Disney now, I usually get teary eyed looking at the pictures of my son with those two characters. They were sweet, spent time with him, gave him hugs, Ariel even gave him a kiss on the cheek, and really made it feel special.

we went in January- do you think it is two late to email?

Definitely not! I always find it's most helpful in complimenting CMs that are friends with the characters to try and be as specific as possible as you can about where, and what time you met them so that they can try and locate that specific CM.
