Looking into DVC membership, probably the BCVs, but maybe a resale at BW. Buying in the next several months (assuming I don't get cheap between now and then).

1. My understanding is that the value of your points does not change over time (i.e. a room that costs 24 points a night this year will cost 24 points in 2030) - yet I see point charts for 2001, 2002, 2003. What's the deal?

2. We are an October Disney travel family and are planning an alternate year Disney vacation schedule. What would be the best use year for us?

3. I understand we can book at our home resort 11 months ahead, at another DVC resort 7 months ahead. When are DVC rooms available to non-DVCers?

Point requirements CAN be changed. The total points at each resort is constant, but the point costs may be rearranged. If some nights are raised, others must be lowered. This has happened only once, in 1996 at OKW.

Point charts need to be published annually to provide the information to new members and to update the changing dates for Thanksgiving and Easter in the charts.

Use year is simply when you receive your points each year. If you will ALWAYS travel in October, a Sep use year would work well in the event you would ever have to cancel a reservation on short notice. If, in the future, you decide to travel at other times, taht advantage may not be available with the same use year.

DVC resorts are owned 96% by the members. The only real times cash reservations are available to non-members is when members decide to use their points at other resorts, on a cruise or other DVC program. 60 days before any date, any unreserved rooms are released to CRO for public reservations. Members may also rent reservations to non-members.

Enjoy!

IMHO, November would be the use year you would want because you can make your reservation then for the following October and be mostly assured that you can get what you want.

Use year has nothing to do with when you can make reservations. She can still make an October reservation in November no matter what her use year is. Where November would be bad is if she had to cancel an October reservation after the banking deadline, she would have to use the points by 10/31. If she had a September or October ue year, she would have almost a year to use them. It would also make it more difficult to borrow with her plan for alternate years. If she maxes out her borrowed points, the next use year's points would not be available for stays before November 1.

November would be the worst possible use year to have if you constantly vacation in October. If you cancel an October reservation with a November use year, you only have until Oct. 31 to use those points or they will expire.

An October use year would be the best if you normally vacation in October. If you cancel you will have the rest of your use year to use your points. Remember use year has nothing to do with when you can make a reservation.

By the way, there is no such thing as a November use year. It doesn't exist. There are only 8 use year months and November is not one of them.
