Not getting it.
I see that.

I'll try one more time, then I'm moving on. There is (presumably) some legal barrier to Disney offering this to you. That barrier might be as simple as "We haven't figured out yet whether or not we can do this. Maybe we can, but we don't know." So far, they either (a) haven't figured it out or (b) have figured it out, and learned they can't offer it to Canadian citizens. I'm pretty sure they want to, though, because they are not fond of not taking their customers' money.

It's a thing you want, and you cannot have it. That's unfortunate, for sure. But it is also reality. And so I am reminded of some sage advice:

God,
grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the strength to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

Is the secret three-tier system different than the public three-tier system? How much does it cost to be part of that club? As long as I get a fancy new letter next to my DVC membership, it's worth it.
I can’t talk about the secret tiers publicly. First rule of the “No Canadians Club, is we don’t talk about the No Canadians Club”, but here’s a hint:

1. Americans with direct contracts.
2. Americans with resale contracts.
3. Canadians.

😉

I think knowing is the difficult part here. There have been other things that international members were originally shut out of (such as the pre-purchasing of lightning lanes I think it was), that they fairly quickly changed their mind on despite saying they couldn't possibly allow it at first. There were even responses to some of the initial complaints to say that it wouldn't be legal to allow it, despite this obviously not being true. There have been other changes they made specific to DVC (such as changed to the point chart) that they also backtracked on. They never told us why they changed their mind, but I'm sure the people from here who contacted them definitely influenced this! I'm glad that people didn't just sit back and accept it.

The reason I'm happy to see it discussed on here is the hope that some of the more knowledgeable members can help us know the ways that we can challenge this. I don't want to just accept that it probably isn't allowed, when no-one has given a reason that it shouldn't be. Hopefully, the more of us that contact them the more likely they are to change things, rather than everyone just assuming that it can't be changed.

Obviously, I'm not expecting you to spend any time helping us with this and I understand why you want to move on, but if any other members reading have any ideas that might help us challenge this I'd be happy to hear them! Thanks

Anyone who feels affected by this should continue to complain directly to DVC. That's what I've done, and if we keep up the pressure, they may be more inclined to jump through whatever legal hoops they have to jump through.

A couple of things I learned from MS today:

1) You can purchase the BOGO OTUP and have them substitute for a reservation you already have to free up the points you used for that reservation as long as it was not made during the home resort window.

I purchased 16 points FOR MY 2024 MARCH UY for $160 and swapped them out for a Feb 2025 reservation I made by partially transferring over some 2024 DEC UY points. Those DEC UY Points still have a lot of life on them and are bankable. Program basically paid for itself right there.

2) The Disneyland ticket can only be upgraded to a MK if they are offering them, not to another park ticket.

This is good intel - esp # 1. Will do this tomorrow!

Edited to change from #2 to #1 bc I was half asleep when I read the above the 1st time!

Interesting guess but I can’t see that. Legal considerations for discounts, skipping lines, character greetings, discounted photo pass etc.? International members already get merch discounts, can buy one time use points, can buy park tickets, can buy photopass etc. Certainly comes across as preferential treatment for US owners.

Imagine being an international member that bought direct points in 2024?
Paid one one the highest prices ever and not eligible because? No reason, wrong address.

New 3 tier system
US direct owners
International direct owners
Resale owners
I want to say it's surprising that folks are mad they can't throw an extra $100 at the mouse, but, I am not.

This inability to purchase MMB infuriates me. There is no way there is a Canadian law against it. I am a somewhat large point holder and have been willing to buy more. But as of now, if there is a waitlist to get into the lounge, I have just lost my access. And please don't tell me "perks aren't guaranteed" cause they are still there for most of the rest of you.

Well not me. I would never pay for MMB. Quite frankly I think it's disgusting that Disney is charging for these things.

We are all just speculating here but I don't think we are talking about any specific Canadian law (otherwise it would be available in other countries). I can imagine that the difficulty lies in the bundle of different benefits that are included and that some of these either are in conflict with laws outside of the US or it is just time consuming and expensive to check that there are no problems. It took Disney some time to make LL advanced purchase available and I guess it is even more complex, if it is not just one service that is being sold (LLs) but a bundle of quite different 'benefits'. (BOGOF points, priority queues, etc.). Showing to Disney that enough people outside the US are interested to make it worth the effort is probably the best way forward.

Referring to those who have purchased MMB, but haven't seen the 'BY' in their Wallet card. MS told me to remove card from Wallet and re-add it. It worked.

Just to go further, my next question is will resale points being used affect whether or not the member can go up?

And will they be allowed into the lounge if the points being used are from a different UY/membership
Truthfully not sure here...my guess is that it will be similar to the crackdown they've done with moonlight magic where you have to be on your direct points tied to the reservation though.

Did they start enforcing that? I still see people saying they booked their room on their resale points for moonlight magic time to time 🤔

Probably not worth the Hustle...but buy the membership...get the 24 points for $240...rent points out for $20 a point and make $120-$140...yay or nay?
Nay

1) You likely won’t get $20pp for points outside home resort window.
2) Taxes
3) There aren’t a lot of 24 point reservations for renters so you’d be dipping into your own points for additional days.

Why will you do this “tomorrow”?

It can ONLY be upgraded to a Magic Key (if they are offering them for purchase). They CAN NOT be used to upgrade to any other ticket.

I don’t think anyone has actually tried do anything yet, so we’ll see if that information holds.

This is my plan if I don’t find a use for the OTUP points myself.

Against my better judgement I bought MMB on Jan 11th. Next day found out the character meet is limited to one per trip. 😂 We’ll need something more than one meet with Judy from Zootopia to make the $99 worthwhile.
