But then if you cancel it, they just sit there in the account?

This is correct…but that slight difference when they sell them to you is what allows them to say it’s not just a transfer of points.

What DVC has that we do not is the ability to access all owners accounts when we can’t access anyone’s but our own.

It is interesting that they are allowing you to purchase for AP…but my guess is the same premise…they are selling you the points as a way to purchase something.

We now know that you a not used restricted points…they must be good for exchanges….which tells me direct or resale points purchase prior to 2012

Depending on your circumstances you can actually "save" 12 points when buying the AP with points.

Say you need 24 points to complete a reservation or just want 24 more points, then you buy 24 OTUP. On top you get 12 points for free. You get 36 points but only pay for 24. You could of course also only buy 12 and get 12, leaving you with 24 points which you need.

However if you buy 24, and get 12 free you could use those 12 points towards and AP and only use 63 of your own points. You could also go all in and use all 36 points towards the AP, paying only 39 of your own points. But then you need to fork up $480 + 39 points, not taking the $99 buyin fee into account. If you buy approx $9 per point in dues then the cost would be $480 + 39 x $9, a total of: $831 or $930 if you include the $99 buyin fee.

You can’t get 36…you are still limited to 24….so you pay for 12 and get 24…the maximum per membership per UY is not changing.

It’s pay for one and then get one free.

So let’s use that though…12 cost $240…get 24….renewal is $929.

So, now I have $689 being covered by 41 points…value of points becomes $16.80.

Yesterday it was going to let me purchase again but my gift card said my balance was $99.00 less so that's when I stopped and opened a chat.
Gift cards will hold funds if there is a glitch during the transaction. Learned this the hard way when registering for Dopey two years ago with a gift card- the system hung up during the purchase and didn't complete. When I tried to do it again, the gift card had $660 less on it and I had to pay with credit card since there was no longer enough available funds on the GC. The hold dropped off about 48 hours later, but boy was I annoyed.

Oh I though you could still pay for 24 but would only get 12 free.

I have a OTUP question. I have a Dec UY, upcoming trip on January 17th. Can I call on January 12th, ask to buy 24 OTUP and have them applied to my existing vacation? Then I would have 24 of my 2024 points back that I could do what I want with? My goal is to use OTUP for a 4 day weekend in November 25. What's the easiest way for this to happen? If I book a dummy reservation that uses 24 OTUP instead, can I keep moving it forward to November at my home resort or will those points be blocked if it's not within 7 months?

You could, but those 24 would then be in holding. Might be better to make a 7 month reservation in April and purchase the OTUP when you do so that you’re not restricted to only booking within 60 days, especially if you’re looking to travel near Thanksgiving.

Did anyone put it on a credit card like Chase Sapphire and see if it codes as travel? I decided to put it on my DH’s Disney Visa as we just opened one in his name (so he gets $400 and I get $100 referral) and need to meet the initial spend requirement for the sign-on bonuses. Merchant type says “timeshares” so that makes me hopeful that in the future I can put it on my Sapphire for x3 back instead of x2.
Timeshares are coded as travel with Chase. So you will get the 3x points.

Since you used the Disney Visa you could use your points to wipe out the charge.

Like the CSR the Disney Visa has Pay Yourself Back for anything Disney in the last 90 days.

The only bad thing is you can’t keep applying points to a particular purchase so if you only had $50 Disney rewards and applied those but later earned $25 you would not be able to apply it to the MMB purchase again.

the T&C says that the member + 4 guests will get the lounge priority access. As I understand the member who purchases MMB need to be present when going to the lounge.
If it works the same way as the regular one, it’s 4 guest in general, but if all guests are in the same room reservation, all are allowed with the owner.

If you go to the page to purchase again, it will show if you have bought MMB or not. If the page shows an activations date of January 12th and a transaction date then you are good to go. If you are able to purchase again then you need to do so because the system haven’t registered your purchase.

So after 20 minutes with member services they told me what @Cyberc1978 said about being able to purchase it again because they have no record of it and it would be blocked from purchasing a second time.
If I don't see my money come back from Disney Gift card to call Disney Gift card Division so thank you @SugarSweetLee for letting me know it could take a few days.

Interesting… the ‘buy now’ button is greyed out for me, so I called MS and they said it was not available for international members to purchase. You must have got lucky!
Exactly the same experience. What I don't like is how the message at the top says "Your account requires special attention in order to purchase MMB. Call MS." So you call and they say yeah, no. Another kick in the face from DVC (Discrimination Vacation Club).

On the DVC Fan Facebook page it’s being reported only direct points will be eligible for AP trade ins. Someone chatted with member services and got that clarification.
I have stayed out of all of this conversation, but curious now. I have been grandfathered in forever, bought resale in 2002 when there was no differentiation in the two. Would any of this apply?

For the lounge priority access, is everyone who is an owner on a membership that has MMB able to walk up to the podium and get priority? It's not just the person who actually purchased it right?

The FAQs make that clear now that they have to be eligible for trades. Could mean resale prior to 2012 will work since those can still trade.

From the MMB webpage:

Take advantage of priority access to Disney Vacation Club ImaginAtrium – A Member Lounge, Disney Vacation Club Star View Station - A Member Lounge and a new Member lounge projected to open in 2025 in Magic Kingdom Park. Use this benefit when lounge access goes on a waitlist. The enrolled Member can bring up to 4 guests or the number of guests on their resort stay reservation, whichever is greater. Capacity restrictions may apply.

Yes that is what the fine print states but does it make sense for a family that only has 1 use year to each purchase it?

That means I would have to be with my SO in the park and other family members instead of watching DS in the pool while my SO and others waitlist the lounge?
I haven't asked but I would guess it applies to whoever is on the deed.
