Membership extras for resale purchasers

The letter is terribly vague and can mean anything. Which means it's easy to create scare tactics with it. The average new buyer has no idea what Buena Vista Trading means, so they can hear "resale will be restricted to home resort!!!!" and believe it.

We bought in direct...just took a lot of the waiting process away (maybe it isn't such a pain, I've just heard it is). The nice thing that we found out before going into the DVC office is that they are actually buying back points from those no longer wishing to own. They don't obviously tell you that in their spiel, as they would prefer you buy in what they are advertising (more $$ that way). However, if you ask for a specific resort that you would prefer to buy into, they can call it in and check how many points they have available. We knew we wanted OKW, our guy actually laughed and said that was going to be a stretch and they probably didn't have any spare points. We gave him a number, he called and WOW...they had the amount, weird. So we were like well...double that and see what comes back. Sure enough, they had those points too. It's a game for them, surely...you just have to play along with them. Sure we didn't save $$ buying direct, but if something were to glitch down the road...we know that we are dealing with the direct party rather than a 3rd party to try and resolve it. There are a lot of factors to look at, and just choose what is best for you and your family in the end.

With how vague their letter is, I personally would just go ahead and try to utilize all of the membership options at some point, and then that way you will know what you can and can't do, should you purchase outside of Disney. It stinks to have to take the long way around...but I don't really see them breaking it down any further for people.

They always have points from foreclosures and ROFR. They'd much rather sell new "live" properties. That's why you have to play that game.

The membership extras disclosure doesn't even specify that pre-4/4/2016 resale buyers are grandfathered in. In fact, it implies that they AREN'T.

It boggles the mind.

I bought resale in 2014 (my one and only contract). I should be grandfathered and I guess I am, but my first WDW trip after 4/4 is in 3 weeks so I still don't know for sure.

The disclosure document writing implies that I can't get extras.

I'm trying to buy some merchandise through the Shop Parks App and even as the app recognize me as a DVC member I don't get any discount.

I know most DVC members are getting discount using the app so now I don't know if my account has some kind of problem or that everybody whose only contract is resale is in the same situation.

I've trying to contact Disney but no real answer yet. Maybe I'll have to wait to be there and see if I can get the merchandise discount in the stores using my blue card.

Any one with a similar experience/case?

Do you have a blue membership card? If you do you are fine. If they didn't send you one you should have a digital one on your account.

Not sure what was inaccurate about my post.

But regarding the TIW card -- it is available to only Florida residents, annual passholders, and DVC members. I'm not certain that post 4/4 resale purchasers are considered "members" eligible for TIW.

Has anyone with a post 4/4 purchase gotten TIW yet? I would've been in that category, but we added on 25 points direct to make sure we got access to TiW and the AP discount. When I talked to the CM on the phone, he did say that TiW wasn't available to new resale purchasers -- however, it is possible he might have been lying or was misinformed. I guess we won't know for sure until someone tries it out.

What was inaccurate about your post is that DVC have been deliberately vague and have not defined exactly what post 4/4 members are included and excluded from.

Yes, I do have a blue card. (My wife doesn't get her card yet), I'm pretty confident I'll have no problem getting the discount I'm person. What worries me is this no discount in the Shop Parks App.

Somebody resale only pre- 4/4 member have tried the app?

Thanks!

We just closed on our DVC memebership through resale. I was told that our membership would not include the DVC discounts, access to the lounge in Epcot and annual passes. But with the purchase of an annual pass I can get most of these back. Obviously not Epcot lounge, but honestly I don't care about that. I was also told the DVC annual pass for 549, has a lot of black out dates. The platinum does not. I am also a Disney Visa card holder, this affords us a lot of dining discounts as well.

My husband and I agree, we will try this for a year. If we really feel we are missing out we will do a 25 point add on direct from Disney.

I'm sure the IT department is having a terrible time setting up the parameters of the restrictions on post 4/2016 resale purchases through out the Disney websites. I'm sure it will take sometime for it all to be straightened out.

I don't think that you can buy the AP for the DVC membership price (gold AP), that is one of the restrictions. You will have to pay for the regular AP.

$749 is the AP price for the average person or post 4/2016 resale buyers.

The discount is only on DVC merchandise on the app (unless I'm mistaken but I thought that's how it worked).

Add a DVC item to the cart and see if it shows a discount at checkout.

Yes, I'm saying I can't buy it for 549..... but I'm also saying it has black out dates and the non DVC AP doesn't.

The Gold pass is not exclusive to DVC. The gold pass does have four weeks of blackout dates: two weeks around Easter and Christmas.

I've tried that. No discount. :(

I was following a thread that discusses a loophole that can work around the blackout one time.

I just purchased this year-passed ROFR early March, should have closed by end of Narch but didn't close until 4/14, so I was in the big mess of grandfathered or not grandfathered. I have purchased from the shop parks app and received a discount, I also have received my blue membership card, Disney did say that I was grandfathered in.and so far so good.

Great! So I should be able to get the discount using the app. I'll try to call the app support phone. Maybe they can help me.

Thanks!
