I received a letter from DVC with my new membership number. A couple of days later I received a vacation planner but the package was torn and actually rewrapped by the post office. Where my actual membership cards supposed to be in there also or will they come in a different package?

Thanks!

Membership cards are printed and mailed by a outside contractor and they process them in batches so often there is a delay.

If you never receive them, you can get a replacement at the SSR Sales Center on your next visit or you can request a replacement from MS.

My concern is my daughters are using the resort March 4 - 9. They have regular tickets but are going to convert them to annual passes after the first use. How do they prove we are DVC members if we don't have the membership cards.

Hi, I know I needed to show a valid Drivers License or other official ID card for the DVC Annual Pass discount. I am guessing that I showed my DVC Membership card also. But your DVC Membership number may be enough?? I would calll MS ASAP and find out this info so that your daughters KNOW how to handle the transaction once they are in WDW. I find it is SO much easier if I KNOW what is needed because not all CM's will. Joan

Okay I called and was told that they couldn't upgrade their tickets and get the DVC annual pass discount because I am the member and I will not be there. They still live with me so I am not sure what the problem is. :confused3

I think MS has it right. DS couldn't upgrade without us there (even if he were older than 7), and as the Associate I can't even upgrade without hubby-the-owner there.

From the MS website:

Who is eligible to receive the Annual Pass discount?
Disney Vacation Club Members receive a discount on the Pass for themselves and their immediate family residing in the same household only. At the time of purchase or redemption, your Disney Vacation Club Member ID Card must be provided and ALL ADULTS must present a valid driver's license or state identification card showing they reside in the same household.

It looks like your DVC member card is needed to receive the AP discount. And since you are the member, it doesn't look the girls could get the discount on their own.

It wouldn't hurt if you do receive your card by then to send the card, a copy of your DL, and a letter from you explaining the situation with the girls to see if Guest services will accept that documentation so the girls can get the DVC member discount.

FYI, if you were there, you could get a duplicate card at the MS center at SSR if your card has not arrived in time, but your daughters are not members so they could not get a duplicate of your DVC member card. The other option is for them not to buy the AP at this time and to get it later when you are present.

The problem is they are not the DVC member, you are. As PPs have stated, the member needs to be present in order to get the discount. They can get the discount, just not without you there with them.

I did get my card. My girls are going to ask but they are prepared to pay regular price.

Wow, now you have me thinking. We just closed yesterday on our contract. Does this mean I am the member and my wife is an associate member? or are we BOTH members? Both our names were on the contract and closing documents. I'm just asking because of the poster that said she couldn't do anything without her husband present. I had assumed that my wife and I would be listed as co owners.

if you're both on the contract and closing papers and deed you're both owners. An associate member is someone you grant authority to make reservations but isn't listed on the deed.

For example, my sister and I bought our first contract years ago. We are both full members. Then I met DH. I could have added him as an associate member (without changing the deed) or ask my sister to execute a new deed and have him listed as an owner.

Everyone listed on the contract is a member so if you listed both yourself and your wife on the paperwork you will both be full members. Some people opt to purchase in just the husband's or wife's name only. In that case, only the person listed is a member. The spouse is often added on later as an Associate so that he/she can make reservations but they do not receive full membership benefits as an Associate.

You are both owners if both of your names are on the deed.

My husband is listed as "Purchaser" and I am listed as "Additional Purchaser"

See.. even DVC is chauvinistic!
