How about you all. Where else have you gone? Where have you wanted to go but haven't yet? Where else are you planning to go?

I see where you are coming from, and living on 'Europe's doorstep' (okay, in Europe if you insist ;) ) we do usually visit somewhere we haven't been before each year. But ........... I never have the same thrill when I'm planning, or the same excitement when I get to the final countdown, so I suppose I'm just one of the people who 'gets it' :flower:

I've done most of the major west European capitals, know parts of Switzerland and Germany very well, the major tourist spots of the USA and hope to go to Australia and New Zealand some day. Will that do? :)

Bill,
I hear that crap costantly from my co-workers.

"Your going again."
"Do you just ride the rides?"
"Don't you want to travel somewhere else." (Of course they forget I spent two weeks in London last year!)
"What do you see in that place."

It gets old, but I'll be down there in May enjoying myself, and they will be stuck here in Atlanta!

Ha! Who's the smart one now!!

I definitely "get it," but I also agree with Tramp and Pooh. So many places to go . . . my only problem is too little time. Darn, this work thing sure gets in the way of my travel plans.

Somehow we seem to manage fitting in two or three short trips to WDW, and at least one somewhere else. Lots of people think that we are weird for going to Disney so often, but I just smile and tell them that we love it!

I was the kid who grew up watching Mickey Mouse Club and knowing I couldn't even ask my rents to travel to DL. So in college, I went to DL and then my bf took me for the first time to WDW in '78 and proposed. How could we NOT be believers in the magic? We tied our visits from Colorado into visiting his folks in SC and then took a few days to hit WDW. But we always traveled elsewhere too. I honestly do remember once saying that we were in a rut: Disney and Hawaii and that we needed to go somewhere else. (I was itching to do SE Asia and Europe and African Safari).

Fast forward to an ugly divorce after 25 years and X took the Ho to WDW while we were still married. YUCK. But I decided that it wasn't going to spoil my love for the mouse. (other than chipping out his name from 'our' bricks at both the wedding pavillion near luau cove and in front of MK...) It was hard to think about going back to the Poly (site of engagement) so I decided that buying into DVC was in order to make NEW memories.

When married, we often commented on people who found a Disney vacation 'boring' as most likely kinda boring people themselves. Judgmental, I know. But we actually 'sent' some acquaintences to WDW armed with all our years of trade secrets...and they came back and said they were bored after 3 hours so spent the rest of their vaca at Orlando water parks (before Dis water parks). I just never invited them to dinner again...LOL

Last night at Bunko, a lady asked all about DVC and timeshare. She said "how can you stand it with all the kids?" I just couldn't respond to that. I like kids; kids never bother me, cept maybe in an expensive restaurant if they are screaming for a long time (and then it is only the parents that bother me!)
But I don't feel overwhelmed by kids at Disney...I mean there are usually lots of kids, but there are lots of kids most everywhere, no?

I don't keep my Dis addiction quiet, but I don't explain it either thesedays. I just smile a Mona Lisa type smile...and find that then everyone seems very intrigued.

They just don't get it, and I know you all do. How many of you play your DVC and your Disney fandom close to the chest?

DW and myself have decided we're not going to discuss our travel plans (whether DVC or otherwise) with family anymore. They think we're some kind of rich people because we bought two timeshares (VWL and HH) and travel alot. We're not, but have just decided where we want to spend our money. This feeling is shared by my DM also, who I am sure discusses it with brothers any time we go on a trip. Everytime I tell her we're going to WDW again, she makes the comment, you sure must be rich to be going back down there again. We've basically just decided from now on, to not tell them we're off to wherever unless absolutely necessary. The great thing about cell phones is you can talk to anyone you wish and they really can't tell where you're calling from :cool1:.

One good thing is we've have some very close friends who are also DVC owners and the husband loves WDW about as much as I do. So we're constantly discussing our Disney plans and what all is going on at WDW at the time. In fact, we're planning a trip to Hawaii with them next year and will be stopping off at Disneyland on the way back. So at least I have someone we can tell about all our plans.

I decided recently that I'm not going to try to defend it anymore. I like going, period. :)

What I really don't understand is those people who have places "up-north" here in Michigan that they go to EVERY weekend!! Why is THAT so acceptable and going to Disney once a year (sometimes twice :goodvibes) NOT ok? No one EVER questions people when they say they are "going up north this weekend". There is alot more to do, in my opinion, at Disney even out of the parks than there is up-north every weekend!! We just don't get it. People assume that all there is to do is go to the parks at Disney. Do they not realize that there is a whole, big "world" out there at The World?? GEEZ, I so know how you feel!!!! It does get pretty frustrating always explaining why we are going to Disney!

Laura
I live in Michigan too. I have the same feeling. Most people I know go "up north" to mow their lawn or work on the cabin. But that is acceptable to people. Not my kind of vacation. To each his own.

My brother's response to "another" trip to WDW was "now that's original". I have never given him any grief for buying a $20,000 camper. What is so original about that? I guess, just like me and camping he just doesn' get Disney (although he has never been there). :confused3

Our families have are cool with our love of WDW and they never really questioned us on all the times we went/go. I think they understand as they have been to WDW themselves and like it but they just choose not to go as much as us.
However I do have some co-workers that give me crap, but I just dont let it bother me. I had a coworker talk to me nonstop for like 6 months about his upcoming trip to WDW. It was cool to talk about something I love and I gave him some pointers and stuff and when he got back he said how much fun he had and loved it. Then two months later it was like he hated it. Saying stuff like "dont you get tired of it" and rolling his eyes whenever I brought up WDW. So now I say things just to annoy him. He said one day his next trip was somewhere in Mexico. I told him "Why bother going that far when theres a Mexico pavillian in Epcot". He doesnt seem to like when I do that but if someone is going to give me crap about my vacation place,I will give him crap back.
I also never understood how someone can go to Vegas,Hawaii and places like that every year but if you go to Disney once a year youre crazy. I go crazy if I cant go twice a year to Disney.

Welcome to the DIS! I too didn't get it until my Prince Charming made me go to WDW on my honeymoon. "Who wants to spend their honeymoon at an amusement park" I said. Well I've been feeling the Magic ever since and can't wait to celebrate my 19th wedding anniversary at WDW in 3 short weeks....Thanks for the memories Pecos Bill!
Love,
Your Bride......

You just can't explain to co-workers and friends how you feel because it is an obsession the same way as some people obsess about sport or cars etc.
Here in the UK many people are fanatical about soccer.

I find myself day dreaming about Disney when I am work and it keeps me going through the boring weeks of the year when you just work, sleep and eat (and drink!).

I want to know everything I can about the parks, the resorts and any bit of gossip and any rumours. It beats watching the TV and keeps me sane. Since we bought into DVC last October I have not stopped smiling as I know it is not just a trip of a lifetime for us but a lifetime of trips.

I can't wait until I am back in the states in three weeks time.

Ha! We're a married couple, early 30s, no kids and don't plan on having any. You should have heard our friends and family when we decided to buy into DVC about 6 years ago. They went nuts!

Of course, we've "sold" DVC to two of our friends as well as my parents. Because my sisters scoffed at the idea of my parents buying points, they bought on our membership (I'm their "travel agent") and when they pass, the points are mine.

We've also managed to sell the Disney experience to a lot of our friends and family by inviting them to stay at DVC with us. The scoffing sisters loved the GV in February and we're taking six of our friends in August (one pair has DVC also, so we're pooling our points for rooms). Little by little, I'm trying to convert the masses!

I'm pretty lucky. My sister is a Disney nut, and my parents are DVC members as well, though I don't know if they're quite in the 'nuts' category, but they do enjoy it very much. I have several friends who all love Disney, so I have no problem being able to talk to people about it. Even people at work think it's cool that I go there so often, they understand that's where I enjoy going.

We're lucky in that our best friends "get it" (they're DVC members also). A few members of our families get it and the ones that don't just smile when we tell them we're going back again.

The one that cracks me up is the guy from work who goes to Las Vegas at least 3-4 times a year and thinks we're nuts for going to WDW 2-3 times a year. What's the difference? The only difference is it's what he likes to do.

I had a conversation with my boss today about this.

He told me last week that I should accrue some vacation time, incase of an emergency. Well we planned a trip to, you guessed it, in July.

I asked for time off and said, "Disney again!?"

I said and offer this to others that throw the same ole, "Disney Again" at you.

I know it's true where I live which is approx 7 hour drive to the house of mouse.
Spend at least two days looking at antennas on vehicles. Count how many mickey related antenna toppers you see. There are alot around here. I know I am not alone. :earboy2:
I have one other person that works here that gets just as excited as I do when planning a trip.

Boy, do I hear where you're coming from!!! Fortunately our three grown daughters all 'get it.' Two are married and they and their spouses have bought into DVC. The 'baby' is a WDW CM--can't 'get it ' any more than that! LOL! Other family members and friends think we're crazy. One of my DH's clients gives him grief about this all the time. Yet this same man takes his family every winter to Colorado skiing and every summer to the Jersey Shore . (you don't go to the beach in Jersey--you go 'down the shore'). How is this any different than going to WDW regularly? He likes snow and sand--we like Mickey!!

lol - there is someone at my child's school with a DVC plate on her car, but I can never figure out who she is to talk to her!!!

:p I am one of those Atlanta people with a disney antenna topper - I have a baseball with Mickey ears :earboy2:

Hi,

Mom & I haven't told many people about DVC & don't plan too. They just don't get it.

Ms. Sparrow aka Allison

My euphemisms for WDW:

Orlando or
Florida

I pretty much stick with these.

DH and I are going for a quick weekend in June - my mom offered to watch the kids. We're just telling her we're headed south, that I have no idea where my DH will be taking me, and that he has a suit packed and I needed to bring a nice dress (PS at Victoria and Alberts!!!). I figure we'll tell her when we pick up the kids! And I CAN"T WAIT!!!!!!! :earboy2:

Most of my siblings have a place at the Jersey shore and all of them are there throughout the warmer months, but they rarely travel outside of home and the beach. I do get it but I don't want it. (I'll just mooch off them :cool1: )

Me.. it has been Disney all the way(and all over the country, caribbean etc..) . I think they think it is  but then what do they have to talk about, they are at the SAME beach all the time, and to me there is sooooo much more to do in WDW and the Orlando area.

I may not go as often as I would like but I don't have to take care of 2 homes year round either.

So for me this was the best choice..usually visit 3-4 times a year...can't wait to get back home
