Members' Meeting 3/15 BWV

I attended the members' meeting Thursday March 15th at BW Community Hall. It was my first members's meeting. I found it more of a informational pitch to get members to use other DVC options and to buy into BCV. The varied "Collections" were explained and the low number of points needed to experience them were demonstrated. I felt I was in the middle of a commercial. The hostess would ask has anyone done the such and such hotel on exchange and someone would raise their hand and say it was fabulous. Also the different Magical Beginnings were discussed A guide came at the end to announce that a special tour of the BCV models(on the BW) was being offered right then and any member who wished could go. I was expecting more info on when the painting of BW would be completed and how the refurbishing schedule was figured out. Instead there was no Q+A . I did linger to speak to the hostess to ask about the cruise line and if all ports were now docking as opposed to passengers being shuttled off the boat on transports. She said she thought all ports of call were docked. It disappointed me that there was no real info.

Not sure what members meeting you attended. The Annual Meeting is held in December. That's where they talk about the budget, maintainence, etc. It's fairly formal with a call to order, minutes read, budget approved, etc.

I think you attended more of a members get-together.

That would explain it. But I got three reminder phone calls to attend so I thought I would learn more.
Particularly, because my 1BR was in dire need of refurbishing.

I went to one of those last year. The only good thing was the pastries , although they did have "contests". They gave away DVC backpacks (1) and a couple other things along w/ some DVC beachballs. I didn't win anything BUT I made him give me one due to the fact that he was talking about using concierge pts in Boston and started making fun of our "accent". So I STOOD up and said I was from Boston! and for that remark I deserved a beachball!! From what I hear at some time shares you are obligated to attend the weekly meeting while you are there even though you own...I think DVC keeps it as a "volunteer" type thing?

These meetings are basically sales pitches. You do sometimes get some info on new options etc. They are interesting to attend if you have the time and certainly worth doing once. They are completely voluntary.

I have never attended a member's get-together meeting but my parents did while they were vacationing with me over the holidays (they didn't tell me until after they came back from the meeting -- I would have attended with them had I known). My parents have no real interest in Disney (it's just a necessary means for them to see me & their grandkids), so I was surprised that they attended. They came back with all sorts of good information and shared it with me. Since I have been a DVC member for a few years now, they didn't really tell me anything that I didn't already know, but they were pleasantly surprised by some of the DVC things that they learned (I think it made them feel better about my membership with Disney). I think maybe that was the whole point of the DVC meeting -- to get folks who are either brand new to the DVC or who are considering purchasing a DVC membership, a little more knowledgeable about things. As Ducklite pointed out, the real nitty-gritty meeting is the Annual Meeting. That is probably the one that you would have liked to have attended (me, too, one of these years).

Since DVC annual meetings were mentioned ... let me say the annual meetings held at the end of November/early December are worth attending. DVC members have a chance to meet & chat with the CMs "behind the scenes." There is a formal business meeting, a budget presentation followed bya question & answer session related to the budget & then a Q&A in general. You learn how our money is spent, what the future holds, etc.

I've been to the members' "get-together" meetings at both HHI and BWV. The one at BWV was more of a sales presentation with little exchange among the members. Still, it was short and worthwhile.

The meeting at HHI was much more informational. After a short presentation, the members began a discussion, which I found most useful and enjoyable. It was a great opportunity to speak to other members in that forum and find out little hints for using points wisely, best times to participate in various activities, etc.

I guess it depends on who is giving the presentation and the make-up of the participants.
