Member Updates and Children..........

Does anyone bring their children to Member Updates? Im considering attending but I will have my boys with me.

Generally, we don't see a lot of children at the Member Updates. With that said, we have taken ds(9) with us . We let him bring his GBA and headphones, and he usually eats and then quietly plays a couple of games. The CMs have always been really nice to him, and make a point of making him feel welcome.

I don't know if I would take a younger child or one who couldn't entertain themselves QUIETLY. The meeting rooms are fairly small, and a child who is acting like... well... a child... might be distracting and take away from the ability of other members who are trying to listen.

Of course, there was a fully grown man at one of the BW Updates last fall who threw a bigger fit than any of my kids ever have... he had some choice words to describe his feelings about DVC, the room he had been given, WDW, and the world at large. Apparently, he was under the mistaken impression that the Member Update was really a member gripe session, and was upset when it wasn't...

Last year when I went to an update, I took my ds, who was 2 and in a stroller. We just stayed in the back. The CM who was back there too, gave him a beach ball and he played with it (by throwing it and having me retrieve.) Did some people give me looks, yes - did I care? No. If he would of screamed bloody mad, then I would have left, but in my eyes he did fine.

My suggestion, if you do bring your kids, stay by the door and be prepared to leave if they get too loud.

The updates are now offered in the Cinema at SSR (no longer at OKW or BWV) and, I understand, they no longer have food. They are at 4:00pm each Wednesday and tours of the models are available afterwards.

Children are certainly welcome and the CM's will usually make an effort to include them, but there isn't likely too much of interest in the meeting itself- so a plan to have some quiet distraction might be worthwhile.

We went to the first Member Update at SSR with our two girls that are 6 and 2. It was at 4pm and my little girl napped during the whole time (course we went to the pool before it). My 6 year old was very excited about the questions the CM asked. She wanted to give her answer, now this coming from a relatively shy girl. She liked seeing the new things coming up at WDW. We did sit off to the side in case we needed to exit.
Got lucky I guess!

What are member updates? Being new to DVC I have no clue what they are or when/where they take place.

Any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

We went to the Member Update on 6/23/04. I will probably not go again. There was no info there that isn't already available in numerous places, including this board. There was no Q and A session, as there was at the OKW update I attended in March. The suggestions above about bringing kids are great. Whether the meeting is really worth the effort is another issue (JMHO).
