Melia's Make A Wish Trip -- Bring on the Pooh

I am not sure about the strollers...I am sure that some one will get that info to you right away...

As for MNSSHP...according to Allearsnet, it is only on the 12th, 13th, and the 15th while you are there, so it does leave a few days open for the regular Wishes fireworks and Spectromagic parade (both favorites of mine!)

Hi! Looking forward to hearing all about your trip.

Your daughter is just adorable!

To answer your stroller question, I think you would be wise to bring your own. First in the airport, it is HUGE and you will not want to have to carry the kiddos. Outside the parks gettin to your car can be a bit of a long process, and if you have been walking around the parks for awhile, the last thing you will want to do is carry two sleepy ones out of the park, to the monorail or ferry, or to the tram, ect. I found the perfect stroller for us ( 11 months and 4 years when we went) was the Jeep side by side umbrella. It folded up just like an umbrella stroller, had mesh backs so the baby didn't over heat, and was very lightweight and small enough to fit in aisles.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for that info, Lynn. I think I will rearrange our days so we can do the fireworks and Spectromagic.

And thank you Nicholfamily5. I didn't even know they made side by side umbrella strollers. I will have to check those out!

Melia is getting really excited and saying she wants to go right now. I think she is going to be so amazed!

Sorry I have been MIA on this pre-trippie!

I got the swine flu about the same time your family had it.

Did Melia ever get it? I hope not!

William has it now...so we are hoping Lauren doesn't get it. She might actually get Tamiflu preventatively - which is pretty rare these days. They are not even really giving the sick kids Tamiflu unless they are immunocompromised here anymore.

But to your questions...

Strollers...I think the previous posters are right. I would bring yours. It seems like it would be a pain...but I think you will be glad you have it!

You could rent one from an Orlando Stroller company, but then you would not have it in the airport. But that way you could avoid taking it on the plane or buying one that you won't use for more than just this trip. But the airport in Orlando is large.

I would definitely recommend catching Spectro and Wishes. Are you going to a MNSSHP party one night? I loved that party! And it gave us some extra time in Disney...which was nice.

Thanks, Maroo. I'm glad you're feeling better. We haven't gotten it yet! And they won't even give the Tamiflu to Melia as prevention--she has to have the flu. It's really making me nervous. I wish the flu shots were going to come out just a little earlier, or that our trip was a few weeks later. But nothing we can do about it now.

I would love to do the MNSSHP, but unfortunately we just can't swing it financially. So I'm thinking maybe we'll do MK on Wednesday (instead of Monday) and stay for the fireworks and Spectromagic. My mom has volunteered to keep the baby one evening so my husband and I can be out with Melia and just concentrate on her. She is great with Juniper, but I know that she will really enjoy some undivided attention!

I can't believe I never subscribed to this trippie! But anyway, we're going to be there at the same time. You get there and leave a day after we do. How cool is that??

Mickydees (Collin's mom) will also be at the same time. We were planning to meet up at the Thursday night Christmas party and I would love to meet you and the girls as well. Whatdaya think? Let me know and once it gets closer we can make definite plans! Or if you weren't going to be at the village for that party we can think of another night. I think the only night we won't be at the village is Wednesday (10/14) as we plan to be at MK for the fireworks.

I found your link on the Wish Trippers posts. I hope that your daughter is feeling better soon. :grouphug: I hope that you like your new trip dates! :wizard: Hang in there! :cheer2:

Anyway, there have been a few questions floating around in my mind that maybe someone can help with:

Strollers: I know this has prob been discussed a million times so if anyone could even give me a link, or tell me how to search properly that would be great. I'm basically wondering if the Disney strollers will be good for the girls, or whether we should bring something of our own.

I can't think of what else...I will have to stop my mind from racing and get back on soon.

Did you ever get an answer on this? The Disney strollers are hard plastic strollers that remain in one position. We take our double stroller that lays down or sits up with each individual child. You can use them in the airport and then gate check them at the gate. Then when you get off of your flight you have it right there to use to change planes or just head off on your vacation. You can I think as a Wish family get free stroller rentals at the parks, but then you still have to get from your car to the entrance and in some cases it is quite a distance. I am not sure if your Wish organization will give you this ahead of time, but guest services at Disney will give you a red tag for your stroller that lets you use it as a wheelchair even if the child can walk and does not normally use a wheelchair. Then you use this with your Guest Assistance Card and you go in the handicapped entrances of rides with the stroller. You only have to take your child out to help her on and off the rides. This helps a lot! Let me know if that answered your question or if I confused you more. princess:

Here is a link to a page on another part of this website about the WDW rental strollers and this is one of the pictures of the double strollers from that page:

There is also information about Orlando Stroller Rentals on that page if you don't want to bring your own (but, I agree with the other posters and would recommend bringing your own)

If you have not looked around a lot, check out www.wdwinfo.com, which is the website that the DISBoards are part of. There is a lot of attraction information and pictures.
Since Melia likes Pooh, you need to go to Pooh's Playful spot across from the Winnie the Pooh adventure ride in MK. She will be so excited to play on the things there.

If you want more information about using a stroller as a wheelchair, post #6 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread has more information about GACs (Guest Assistance Cards). Most attractions (except at MK) have Mainstream Lines, which means that the regular line is wheelchair accessible. It is very helpful to be able to bring your stroller into line (helps with fatigue). All the attractions have accessibility to bring a wheelchair to the boarding area or into shows and places where wheelchairs can be parked while you are on the attraction. "Wheelchairs as strollers" are handled the same way as wheelchairs and can be brought to the boarding/show area.

Wow! I saw your post on the main Make a Wish site. I can't believe that you leave in a week. Let me know if I can answer any planning questions. I don't think I could find out I was going to Disney and then pack in one week! Congratulations! :yay:

kdzbear: Thanks for the sweet messages. I'm ususally a huge planner myself, so this will definitely be the winging-it trip of a lifetime. That's okay. I know we are going to have a great time no matter what.

We are just finally finising up with a month of illnesses, so I am very thankful for that. Thankful and exhausted.

The only other question I've thought of lately is about Disney Hollywood Studios. I hadn't planned on us going, and it doesn't seem like I've read too much about it from others, but now I'm wondering if we would be missing out. Any opinions anyone??? Thanks!

I am not sure if Melia would be old enough to enjoy Toy Story Mania or not, it is kind of jerky in motion as it moves from game to game. She would love the Beauty and the Beast show and the Little Mermaid Show. She would really enjoy the Playhouse Disney puppet show. Parts of the Great Movie ride might be a little scary. There are tons of characters to meet at the Inside Animation building around 4:30 -4:45 each day. Then if you are there on Nov. 10th or later the Osborne Festival of lights is turned on and from what I hear those are not to be missed. Here is a link to the video on this site: http://www.wdwinfo.com/holidays/osbornelights.htm. I know that Disney extended the hours at lots of its parks in November, so you might want to double check park times. Oh, She would also like the Muppets 3D show. You might want to spend 3-4 hours at that park. My kids, ages 1, 4 and 9 liked it. Let me know if you have more questions. What are the exact dates of your trip? :woohoo:
