Are you seriously defending him? I don't care what her original motives were. He HIT her...with a baby in her arms. He said she "deserved it". He threatens to cause her more harm all the while spewing vile, misogynistic, and racist remarks. He says that she deserves to be raped. Mel Gibson is filth.

Of course. Okasana was a gold digger and just looking for an easy mark. She probably had it coming to her.

There are two sides to every story. Maybe she hit him first and that part was cut out of the tape.

For the sake of argument, what if she IS telling the truth and he is a crazy person and this was the only way she could get someone to believe her. Mental abusers make the victim think that they are superior and nobody will believe them anyway and frankly come off to the rest of the world as a great person. If she has been going through that it makes perfect sense to me why she would tape those conversations.
Just sayin...

The thing is, Mel produced the Passion of the Christ. A lot of people respected him for that movie. It's very hard for people to admit that their heroes have feet of clay.

You have this image in your mind of who you think a public figure is (Mel's a good, strong Christian man), and if you really respect that person it's hard to admit that maybe their public image is NOT who the person is (Mel beat his wife so hard he knocked teeth out.), so you try to figure out all the ways you can keep your image of the person. (The tapes are a lie; the woman is a blankety-blank.)

Everybody does it, so cut folks a break.

I don't buy that. I was a big fan of John Edwards. When it came out about the affair, I was extremely disappointed, but I still supported him. After I heard more of the sleazy things he did, that put an end to my support.

Mel Gibson hasn't just stumbled and this isn't the first time. How anyone can defend a racist abuser is beyond me.

The only thing you are right about is that we don't know what really happened. What I do know is that Mel Gibson has now shown on numerous occasions that he is not only a racist, an anti-semite and a philanderer...but now he is on tape admitting to abusing a woman, threatening even more violence, wishing rape on a woman and that he has pretty much lost his mind.

But, you know, she might have hit him first. Whatever.

I have not heard the tapes and have no desire to. It is sad for any person or family to unravel and even sadder when exposed publicly. I hope that this family gets help in whatever form they may need.

Yesterday Howard Stern played one of the tapes in full: no bleeps or nothing. It was about 10 minutes long (this is the tape where Mel says she deserves a bat to the side of the head).

He sounded like he was high on something. His extreme shortness of breath was horrific: he sounded like he was about to have a heart attack at times. At first I had doubts that it was Mel, although when a person is shouting their voice can certainly sound different.

Yet, at one part he speaks, briefly, in a more 'normal' voice, and then you can tell it is Mel.

All in all, he sounded like he is fully capable of murder when he gets into such an enraged mood.

As for that agency dropping Mel after his long-time agent died: talent agencies do not, as a rule, drop talent that can earn them money. They were getting out before stuff really started to hit the fan.

Coming from the daughter of a man prone to physical violence - the extremely calm part actually makes a great deal of sense. When dealing with a person prone to verbal abuse which can turn physical with little to no provocation - you're best bet is to attempt to stay as calm and level headed as possible... for fear of setting them off again.

As to whether it was spliced together or not - we wont know for sure until experts get a look at it - but given his history, I don't find it difficult to believe that the tape is real... just sounds like more of the same to me.

Something seems off to me also. The other thing I noticed during the tape, besides him spewing hatefulness and possible violence, was that the wife (I think they are married) remained unbelievably calm, and I thought that seemed odd. And yes, who was doing the taping?

I'm not a Mel Gibson fan, never have been, but I do think something is off.

Some of the transcripts I have seen do include threats to come into her home and sexually assault her. Add that to the allegation that he at one point knocked some of her teeth out when he punched her and the rest of it becomes a lot more serious whether it was uttered as a direct threat or not.

Honestly haven't paid much attention to the tapes but Mel Gibson has slowly been going off his rocker for years. It sounds like he may have finally slipped all the way off.

On taping usually you have to notify the person they are being taped unless there's a warrant of course. I don't see spewing hateful things and general nastiness as a felony so I don't see how a judge would. Again haven't paid much attention but he doesn't actually threaten her does he? He says she "deserves" things not that he will do them right? If it's spliced at all that will be discovered pretty darn quick.*
*(not defending him in ANY way, rather defending my own rights. I wouldn't want something illegally obtained to be used against me.)

It's a damn shame, he's extremely talented but there comes a time when people can no longer ignore batpoop crazy and will just stop seeing anything he's in.

the tape sound fake, expecially she does sound fake. What a bad actress she is.

About the guy. The voice does sound like Mel. But she sounds like the type of person who would pick a fight and then walk to the nursery, grab her child and put it in the middle.

Let's for two minutes say this is true (though I don't know whether I believe it is or not - this is a HUGE mega star... somebody somewhere was gonna sell those tapes, that was a forgone conclusion.)

I wouldn't do it - but I could see why she might.
She might figure that a court of public opinion is the only place that "super rich, super famous" to quote one pp would ever actually pay for the things that he has done to her.

He has had issues with alcohol in the past, wonder if he is back on the bottle?

Yeah, I wonder if the tapes will result in any charges, but you know what? I don't think the GF cares. She taped him and they just magically appeared all over the TV and internet and yet she denies having anything to do with it. We aren't idiots. She wanted these tapes out there because she wanted to damage Mel's reputation.

How much you wanna bet she is sitting back laughing her butt off over this? She loves that fact that he is getting slammed for it. I'm sure it makes her all giddy inside.

All of that said - does the man really need custody of that child?
Frankly I think the child should be handed off to a responsible adult in it's life - and taken away from both messed up parents.

I definitely think Mel has issues...think back to the last scandal he had involving racial slurs. BUT when people are going through domestic issues, bad things get said, hurtful words are spoken, and most people are not recorded and then reported to the media! She waits until he's beligerant, invokes and arguement, records it, then sends it to the media to begin the slaughter. I have absolutely NO sympathy for her. She's getting what she bargained for. She broke up his marriage, had a kid with him, and now she's getting paid for being spiteful.

I don't put a lot of weight to whether people think voices sound like someone or not... my own family and family in-law can't tell the difference between me and my wife on the phone so...

I'm waiting to find out if the tapes are faked or not - even getting thrown out of court may not mean anything other then that they were not admissible evidence. I want to hear the validation reports.

I heard a portion of the tapes and agree that something sounded a bit strange. Her part of it sounded almost like a voice-over done by a language translator (matter of fact with no inflection in the tone.) If it is not altered and that is in fact her, she sounded very calm and in control, which is not surprising since she knew it was being recorded but I think it still sounded too calm. I also don't think it sounds too much like Mel. I am not trying to defend him at all, I am only basing this on my impressions of the voices themselves, not the content of what was said.

As for what was said, well it's not justifiable at all, the words or actions that were discussed. It will all come out in the end and I think Mel and his career are over if any part of it is authenticated.

At this point I don't know if he should go to prison or straight to the padded room! With every tape that comes out I feel more and more like he is less like an angry abuser and more like just a guy who has completely lost his marbles!

If his wife of 30 years (or however long) testifies that he didn't pull this kind of abuse in their marriage, then I would really be looking into whether he is on drugs or has some kind of mental issue/brain tumor, etc. It's just mind boggling that he would go off the deep end like this all of the sudden

FWIW, in my state only one party needs to know that the conversation is being taped..so she could have been totalling within her rights taping the calls without his knowledge - depending on the state's law. I bet she taped the crap b/c she knew that it was too outrageous to be believed!

While I liked a lot of his movies, Mel has had "issues" for quite a while.

I've heard him described variously as ADHD, bipolar/manic-depressive, alcoholic. And racist, misogynistic, sociopathic too.

Whatever it is, he's clearly out of control. He needs help, and I don't think his so-called career is going to recover. And it is very telling that no one in the Hollywood community is defending him or supporting him at all, at least not publically.

But don't feel too sorry for him; he's worth about almost a billion dollars!

As for the tapes being used in court, California is a two-party state, meaning that both people need to consent to recording a conversation for it to be admissable, so they probably won't be used.

No woman certainly deserves to be treated like that. But I wonder about the alleged assault. Where are pictures of her with her teeth supposedly knocked out? I did see some pictures of Mel and Oksana going out to dinner about 12 days after this happened, and her teeth look just fine.

And I'm no fan of Oksana's either. Any woman who knowingly messes around and gets pregnant with a married man (he was still married when he first hooked up with her) is not exactly of good moral character.

Her reaction on those tapes is strange. I can't tell whether is traumatized to the point of numbness, or whether she is deliberately goading him on with her silence and lack of reponse.

And the new tapes, about certain activities before the Jacuzzi, are just bizarre . . .

All in all, this is a major train wreck, and the one that I feel the most sorry for is little baby Lucia . . .

From everything I heard she did have to have dental work done and I believe the dental records confirm that she had lost two teeth and that she had told the dentist taht Mel punched her in the face and that's how she lost her teeth.
