Can anyone tell me about Megan's Bay? Is it condusive to children? Is it very busy? How far is it from the port? Was there a fee to get in? How far was the trip? Was it good to snorkle in? Was the water warm?

Please give me all the information you have?

Thanks

I'd be interested also..on our last Eastern, we went to Coki Beach, which we loved....trying to decide where to go when we go again this June...we'd like to try a different beach and were also wondering about Megans Bay...is there shaded areas there??

We went to Megans Bay on our March 2002 trip. It was beautiful. If I felt better (ended up w/tonsilitus) I would have enjoyed it more.
It was more crowded than I thought it was going to be. The kids loved the water and they said it was warm.

There is shade too...with picnic tables.

Only took about 15 minutes by taxi......the taxi ride was VERY scary!!!! It was a couple bucks I believe to get in the beach.

We loved our time at Magen's Bay.
Our daughter is 3 and had a blast. The water was calm and fairly shallow.
There is a bar and restaurant and showers with restrooms.
It gets fairly crowded with cruise tourists, but it didn't keep us from enjoying ourselves.
They have floats to rent also.
I would highly recommend this trip to anyone.
Taxi was fine, I thought, and beautiful scenery.

We went in November and loved it! We did notice that if you walk down the beach farther, it was almost empty. We stayed in the more central part, and even though it was a bit more crowded, you really didn't notice it. Because it is a bay, the water was very calm with absolutely no waves- the kids thought it was more like a pool than the ocean. The water was warm and they had an absolutely wonderful time. It is truly a BEAUTIFUL beach.

While the ride there/back was a bit scarey (the hills are pretty steep and curvey) it was beautiful. There is a beautiful spot at the very top of one hill with a FANTASTIC view of the Magic in the distance; our driver stopped so we could get out and take pictures. It was one of the favorite pictures that we took!

We'd highly recommend going there. Also- would recommend Orient Beach at St Martin; very different than Maegen's Bay which made those two beaches so nice to visit due to the vareity.

Have fun!!

Do I take the snorkel and fins to Magens bay. Will the kids use them?
Do I take the little guys stroller? 20 months

We did not snorkel, so can't answer that.
Does the little one use the stroller to sleep, rest, etc.?
If so, take it.
The walk is as much as you make it. If you want to get away, and walk a little further, etc.
If not, you can swim and such right where the taxi lets you off. By the restaurant and such.

Make sure to ask your taxi driver to stop at Udder Delights on the drive back to town. They have the best milkshakes. And they'll even throw in a splash of rum for the adults.

We took snorkels and fins to Magen's Bay back in August 2000 when we visited. I wouldn't classify that particular beach as a prime snorkeling location (although we didn't stray very far from the center of the beach). The water is very clear and there will be a few fish to see, so I would suggest that you take them along anyway. As far as the stroller, I don't know how much use you will get on a sand beach. Beyond the parking lot, I don't remember too many paved areas.

Take a small boat ride to St Johns and go to Trunk Bay. It has a underwater snorkeling trail. Trunk Bay is also considered one of the top beaches in the world.

We just got back from our 7 day eastern cruise it was our first time. We decided to rent a jeep for the day,($83.00). We had a blast we saw everything. I would highly recommend renting a car for the day, you are in control and can do whatever you want.

Excellent snorkling.. Terrific beach great for kids. Amazing views of other islands from the beach including St John. Resort environment... Best of all FREE!!!! you can rent anyhting there or bring your own. The magic transports passengers there as an excursion. Rent a car or take a taxi. You are welcome to use the resort as if you were a guest. Better snorklinf by far than castaway cay. Rent equip or bring your own. We had the best time there last week it was very relaxing and beautiful.. Not a crowded as Megans beach and no entrance fee per person...
2 thumbs up! By the way... i heard " it is one of the top 10 worlds greatest beaches about every beach on St Thomas. A marketing ploy!!!

Did you have reservations for the jeep or did you just walk up and rent once you were there?? We leave on SATURDAY and have none of our excursions planned and I think a jeep would be fun.

We did not have any excursions planned as well so after leaving St. Maarten not seeing anything but stores selling jewelry. We decided to rent the jeep at St. Thomas there were 2 rental places right when you got off the ship. Budget and Avis, Avis had 2 jeeps and 2 cars for rent. We did get off the ship pretty early so we were there first. It was so worth it, we had such a great time driving on the wrong (left) side of the road. We saw everything on the Island and had time to take the kids swimming at coki beach(there was shade there). I would highly recommend renting a car it was so worth it. Icart
