I just got a phone call from Meg Crofton's office! I had written a letter after or last trip in January about a very special CM who made some very special caramel apples for my DD as a special surprise for her. As many of you who have seen my posts know, three people in my family have Celiac Disease and are on a gluen free diet. I had mentioned to this CM that my DD really missed the caramel apples at DTD. He hand made 4 apples for her dipped in caramel then rolled in gluten free brownies, gluten free rice crispies and gluten free cookies. He used Mickey straws for the sticks, wrapped them in Mickey paper and tied them with ribbons and Mickey balloon weights. He then called and left a message at our room to stop by and see him before we leave. It was beautiful and so special that I sent on a letter to say this man is great! Well, the office called me to say thanks for the letter and to let me know the CM whould be recognized for his outstanding deed! I am so glad because it was one of those truely magical moments that makes Diseny great.

PS Thank you Kevin for asking about the gluten free on the Dream! I was excited to hear your comment on the Podcast!

Wow! That is a fantastic story! :goodvibes How cool that they called you to tell you the CM would be recognized! And so nice to know they read those letters and follow through.

Wow! What a fun treat and kudos for taking the time to send a letter about that great CM!

Wondeful news! And kudos to you for recognizing and mentioning special service. I think we, as a society, are so quick to point out fingers when someone is bad and forget it is just as important to point fingers when someone is great. So glad you go to experience some of the magic!

:thumbsup2 Both parts of your story are great. Wonderful that you took the time to write a nice letter about the CM and wonderful what the CM did.

That's so awesome that a CM went the extra mile! I love when people see an opportunity to make someone's day and go for it!

Just curious - why did he have to use the Mickey straws instead of sticks?

I don't know. They looked really festive that way maybe or it was the resources available? He is a sous chef and caramel apples are not his usual thing so I think he made them with what he had at his restaurant location. It was awesome!

Ah! I thought maybe the wooden sticks affected the gluten aspect!

And that is why we love Disney......

I hope this goes to show that the corporate culture that has been crafted at Disney for decades does make a meaningful impact on their guests.....and hopefully this will be celebrated as the "way to do business" and not put out as an example of needless spending in a tight economy.

Bravo to you and to that wonderful CM.

Mike

And this is why other companies look at Disney.....Disney sets the standard...outstanding customer service !!!!

Kudos to you for writing, and to the CM...way to go !!

That is a wonderful story! 3 people in my familiy have celiac disease too so I can completely relate! Can you tell me the phone number or email address to send in to comment on a cast member? We make out little thank you cards before we go (which we got here on he Dis) and often give them out to the chefs at the restaurants. But, I would like to recognize cast members when they do things as great as that!
thanks!

Glad to hear this! Our son was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2008 as a teenager and hates the diet. He was a huge bread lover before, and of course the gluten free pizza options at most places aren't much better.

But, the best news of all is that caramel is gluten free! We had been instructed to avoid caramel due to the potential for malt based coloring. After reading your post I went and did some research and see that North American caramel coloring is gluten free now, mostly made from refined sugar and corn products! It's these little things that make such a difference.

I love the idea of thank you notes, I will have to do that next time! It's hard with three but at least we all feel "food needy" together! I sent letters to the following addresses:

Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830-0040

and

My DS is 17 and finds the reactions of other teens the worst to deal with. After the initial questions, all of his friends are actually very thoughtful about making him feel comfortable. Tell you DS he is not alone! We make pizza with Schar crusts, Bone Suckin Sauce (BBQ Brand) and meat & cheese toppings. It's great!
