Yeah, what's the deal with that? My first culture shock is when I was about 10 and my parents took us to NYC. We stopped at a restaurant on the way and I asked for tea. I was shocked to get unsweetened tea. I think we may have had to specify iced tea, too.

Yeah, I know--I moved straight from VA to Connecticut after college---I ordered a sweet tea and got..........HOT tea with sugar packs. I thought it was a joke.
Then in Texas, still no sweet tea. Then in Charlotte----amazing amounts of sugar in the tea! Syrup tea actually.. So I pretty much just drink Crystal Lite now after all that!

You want good tea come to England, not that I drink the stuff

What kind of tea do they have over there? I picture pretty little teapots, but I hate to stereotype! Of course, I LIKE little teapots (now I'm singing the dang song....)

Hey, I just entered a contest to see the Queen and Duke when they come to Jamestown, VA on 5/3. They will pick 58 people to represent the 58 original colonists. I would love to win it. Have you ever seen any of the royal folks?

I'm not sure where "here" is, but I can tell you when I moved from Michigan to Virginia I was quite dismayed at the abundance of sweet tea. Yuck!!!

What can I say us canucks like sweet things including sweet ice tea. Maybe thats why florida is part of canada now hehehehe or it should be with the amount of canadians down there in the winter. Heck I bet florida loses 1/3 to 1/2 it's population in the summer months when the snowbirds head back north lol

Ok can someone help out a lil ole girl from NJ who apparently knows nothing about TEA!!!
To us there is hot tea that you put milk and sugar in or lemon and honey
then...
you have iced tea with lemon and sugar or lemon and NO sugar.(unsweetened ice tea)

Sweet tea is always cold--always lots of ice---and always with sugar already added to it. Usually an abundance of lemon as well. Around here, if you just say "tea", you get all of the above. Many places do not bother to make it unsweetened at all. It is the top selling drink at McDonalds here too.
The recipe is 1 gallon of water, a bunch of tea bags, 2 cups of sugar, and a bunch of lemon.

If you order tea in California you get unsweetened iced tea. You have to ask for lemon if you want it. I'm not sure if they even have hot tea here...I've never ordered it.

We prefer ours without the lemon. Some restaurants make simple syrup (sugar and hot water) to add to the tea later.

Remember: you must add the sugar while the tea is still hot. If you try to add it after the tea is cold, it will just sink to the bottom and people will say that your tea has gone to the bad. No decent Southern lady would ever want her name ruined by the likes of bad tea.

We were gonna run (bootleg) the operation (distillery) out of one of the All Star rooms or the Holiday Inn Nikki Bird and set up a stand at the corner of 192 and World Drive. Is sweet tea in Florida in the same category as moonshine? Maybe we should start a petition to legalize sweet tea in Florida?

2-powered like lipton brand. just add water and mix up

Here in NJ we are just lazy so if we want iced tea we just buy it premade or use the powered variety.
I cant believe I know so little about tea!!!Its not a big thing here at all. I guess I drink to much water and diet coke.

I dont want to open another can of worms, but is it the same for lemonade??
we were just in Augusta, GA a few weeks ago and had us some great homemade pink lemonade....Yum Yum.

Oh no, I am glad my grandma doesn't own a computer or she would die--in her 82 years, she has NEVER made instant tea OR instant lemonade. (She does make an extra Splenda batch now as she has "sugar.")
And you would never tell her to "get out of here" or she would be so upset that you asked her to leave before even TRYING her homemade lemonade.

OK so you let it sit out in the sun and that melts everything, then you refrigerate it?

I brew at least one gallon of tea every day, often more if we're expecting company or family on Sunday to have dinner after church or just to "sit a spell" in the afternoon. I NEVER have unsweet tea in my house. No one would drink it anyway. I keep lemon just for the occasional guest who might want to add it to the tea. Yes, you can buy it in the grocery stores here under the brand names of Milo's or Red Diamond, but it's just not the same as brewing your own.

We Southerner's call hot tea just that...hot tea. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I do brew a cup of hot tea every morning. Yes, that's sweetened as well, but no lemon. (I refuse to even discuss the notion that some people might add milk!)

When my DH was in the Air Force in the late 70's, we were stationed at a base in the UP of Michigan. My mama used to send me care packages of Red Diamond tea bags and Martha White grits. All my relatives used to say, when discussing the fact that she needed to do that; "Bless her heart, she can't even get grits or good tea bags up there." This was always said in a hushed voice, almost in amazement that people could actually live that way.

I am grateful that I do not like beer as much as I love tea.

Just plain brewed tea, no sugar if you please.

I do not only know the way to Disney World but I also know at what point I have to make it clear that I want UNsweet tea!

I was told to take water pills at one time and when reading the contents I noted that the number one ingredient was caffeine. I prefer to take mine in the liquid form with a bit of ice.

Hot tea....but we add sugar to it. We only drink hot tea at the Chinese place as we are trying to be all authentic. We use every packet of sugar that's on the table. Good thing it's hot since they forgot to add the sugar and all.

Also so you always make it or do/can you buy it pre-made.

If you are down to 1/2 pitcher, you need to check your social calendar. If you are expecting company or it's Sunday, you always have some in the ready.

WAIT! That's how our WDW addiction started. We were looking to go on vacation and priced Carowinds, Dollywood and the like and found that we could spend the same money on a trip to WDW.

THOUSANDS of dollars later......

And several years, and were AP holders and trying to get back before they expire.

That's how it all starts.
