Cute, eh?
Just got them today at a garage sale for $2 each! Kids named them, can you guess?

How hard is it to care for them? I always thought it would be neat to have a duck but didn't think they would be good pets!

By the way they are adorable!!!!

A friend of mine had a pet duck for quite a while. She had him all trained and everything. He used to swim in the bathtub. He would come when called, the whole shot.

I hope you have good luck with your pair.:D

I hear they're easier than chickens. The garage sale was at a farm down the road. I joked, "Are your ducks for sale too", and she said, "Sure". So, I bought the two little ones.

Once they imprint on the house and kids, they can free roam (we have 4 acres in the country). They only need a small house (dog house size) for the summer weather. I have to figure out winter though still.

Otherwise, they eat some table scraps, cracked corn, need fresh water and a small pool when they are adults is fine (unless our pond is dug by then).

Thanks. They are cute. ;)

What adorable little buggers!!
Ducks are cool.......my mom let me raise a few when I was a kid. Great memories of my little pals following me around the yard. LOL

Do you have problems with coyotes? I would love some ducks but the coyotes have already snacked on some of the neighborhood cats so I'd be hesitant in getting some.

One of the highlights from all our Disney trips has been the ducks. In June there was a Mom duck with 8 little ones who would march her brood down in front of the Boardwalk bakery every morning and it never failed that someone would feed them. Smart duck. :) They, and the fish, birds and the turtles, also know where all those feed machines are - you know, the ones that are only supposed to be for the fish!

They're so cute! Reminds me of the two we had when I was growing up - we named ours: Big Duck & Little Duck, and used to stand them on our outstretched arms and they would fly down. Had a kiddie pool for them. After a few years, we let them go at the local pond with the other ducks

Well, I awoke this morning to my ds (8) crying, "Mom, I think Squeaker died. He is on his side and not moving." :(

Sure enough, we lost squeaker last night. I went back to the farm and the farmer didn't know why. I thought maybe he got too cold overnight, but she said they never heat the babies. I don't understand. I know that he didn't eat at all yesterday, so maybe he was ill to begin with.

She did replace him with a larger baby. Ds and dd(4) took it the hardest. They seem ok with the replacement, though. And I have a red light heat lamp on them now, just to be sure. I hope the sun comes out today so they can go outside and play in the sun (it's been 60 and rainy here for 3 days straight).

This parenting thing is hard sometimes, eh?

:( What a sad story. I do hope the new baby does better. Your kids can't handle another heartbreak so soon.

So sorry to hear about Squeaker. :(

Best wishes for the new little one - has he/she been named yet?

Aw, so sorry for your loss. That's super hard on little children...

They are adorable. I hope their care is a-okay from now on!
