Mediterranean Excursions

Anna, Thanks for the justsardinia link ! We are actually on the Aug 8 sailing ( sorry for butting in ). But I was concerned about just hiring a taxi from the pier because I read from someone's trip report that their taxi never came back to pick them up. Also, someone said that when they got to the beach the driver quoted them a higher rate. :scared1:

That is what I am afraid of also. Is this just in Obia that you heard of this happening. We feared this also in St. Thomas (when we did the St. John's on our own) and in Cozumel - when we did Mr. Sanchos on our own. Hoping previous cruisers will do beach on their own and will post their experiences.

Thanks for the info AnnaS. I'm looking for the same type of trip as you. I'll email them to see what kind of rates they have. :thumbsup2

We also experience that online glitch that some others have mentioned - which is that the person who had palos booked in their name was not able to book an excursion for the same day.

Example - we booked Palos for one night at 7pm in my husbands name, then when we tried to book a morning excursion that ended at 2pm, it shows him as unavailable (no little box to check for the choices of people in the cabin).

This happened to us on two different excursions. Yesterday when I went back and tried again, it shows my husband available but both excusrions are sold out! Will have to get on the phone with DCL and straighten it out.

FYI - my sister was able to overcome this by using a second computer, it must be some kind of palo cookie issue.

Hoping they fix this so other people don't have the same hassle!

Pixie dust,
Susy

I had posted in another thread, that they do have a glitch if you book palo or spa first, then the primary person in your party will be unable to book excursions. You can book the balance of your party and call disney to book the primary person. That is what I had to do.

Please refresh my memory:

Can you only book Palo bruch and high tea on sea days? Do you have a choice of times or is there only one seating for each?

Palo dinner- do you have a choice of times when you book on line?

Also, do you put in the day and time or do all the days and times available come up on line and then you pick from that?

Thanks

Geez, I hope Disney is good about letting the primary person in. What if the excursion is sold out?

Aloha,
Usually High Tea and Brunch are only on sea days. But last year when we did the Western Cruise with the double dip in Dec they gave us a brunch res when we were at Costa Maya. I thought that was a mistake so I called DCL. They said the were adding an extra day for brunch because there were so many people wanting brunch. Needless to say we had to cancel because we wanted to see Costa Maya.

That was my problem. The excursion that I wanted to take only had 1 spot left. I was on the phone with dcl while online. I booked the one I wanted with my 9 yo dd, then the CM went in to book me. Unfortunately, the excursion I wanted only had one space available.
The CM said they were trying to fix the problem.

Does anyone know if the "Florence and Pisa" excursion includes a guided tour at Pisa? If so, is it like one hour? The DCL site mentions that there will be an escort from Florence to Pisa and a guide at both Florence and Pisa, but doesn't actually say that Pisa includes a one hour guided walk like the other Pisa excursion.

Anyone doing the "Soap & Marseille City" tour? or the Villefranche Perfume making tour? Just wondering if anyone knows anything more about these tours, ie, have been to these places, is it worth it, etc. I'm a soap freak, so I have to ask.

Well, for the first time ever I can say I'm upset with DCL...

A supervisor called about the VIP Pisa tour and said we can book it....but not for ds6. She said they've changed the ages for only 8 and older now.I asked about exceptions, about it printed in the book for all ages and recommended for ages 5+...it's got a train ride, mentions about folding strollers, blah, blah, blah. Nope, won't budge. She said that the fine print says they can change any excursions. ...and said I may want to rebook the Pisa tour I cancelled and that I may have problems booking it now because they are filling up with CC member bookings. She told me we can do it on our own and I told her we prefered to go with Disney for the safety and not worrying about missing the ship. She even said we could go without ds6, leaving him on the ship but I told her no way. She said the DCL Med coordinator wasn't available to speak (hasn't been since Easter btw). She said she'd cancel my request to speak to her about booking it if I didnt' want to do it anymore. I told her I did, but if there were no exceptions and they didnt' change it back then we wouldn't be booking it.

Anyhow, I did get to rebook Pisa and we'll just have to deal with it. I hope anyone looking to still book VIP Pisa and has kids over 8 gets to do it.

Bummer, sorry to hear about that. Hope things work out. DCL should have taken care of those details before now. Hope nothing else like that pops up later.

Does this tour involve climbing the leaning tower? If so, I think that DCL might have changed the age limit because (I'm pretty sure) only kids 8 and over can climb the tower.

so what if you said that the 6 year old won't climb the tower?

Yes, the VIP PISA tour involves climbing the tower. I was really excited when DCL released the tours and it said it was for 5 and up to climb the tower. One of my guidebook had said 8 and up so I though maybe DCL got an exclusion of some sort. I guess, they had a typo or mistake.

I just booked the 6-16 med cruise. Have no earthly idea about anything as to details. The cost of the cruise with the airfare is quite a bit for our budget. Just trying to decide if we would be able to do any sightseeing on our own and if so where would I even begin to plan. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

earpiemom - come on over and join us on the cruise meet thread for the June 16th cruise. Here is the link:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1071396

My best suggestion for finding out info is to tried to read the pages on the Med Excursions thread and on our cruise meets page.

Good Luck and I hope to see you on the cruise meets page.

We are on the same cruise - come over to the web site and introduce yourself.
We are doing quite a few of the ports on our own but others are doing private excursions. Just depends on what you want to see and what is important for you.
