Mediterranean Excursions

Kyla,

No, not sure at all. Finding much info on Olbia has been a challenge. I've since seen other info that indicates your estimate is better. Furthermore, I've read that the road connecting the two isn't one that people would want to be walking on anyway. I'm researching now how I might get from the port to the beach and whether or not there might be another beach closer.

From the satellite view, it looks like Pittulongo Beach is the closest. Then the beach to the south that is in the Disney excursion.

Where can I check for this? is it online? or do I need to call in and make sure they have the box checked?

I had NO idea until I tried to make my reservations. It is on their computer system only. I was able to log on as a Castaway Club member on the website, but the reservation is linked to their reservation system, not the website(?). You would need to call to make sure.

Good luck!!!:thumbsup2

how did you arange for the private driver in rome. didn't really get the excursion we wanted. cindy

thank you so much for the info i feel ike the geico lizard you just saved me lots of money hehehe:banana: cindy

Please tell me I just got a clueless DCL agent...

Last Sunday was our 90 day slot for booking our excursions. I got all of them we wanted except VIP Pisa, which wasn't avaiable on line. I called and was told they'd have someone call me Monday. I did receive a call and she said it had not been loaded yet for booking and would be in the system that day or the next. I was told concierge got first choice and then any left would become available. They had my name and party size and said they would try to book us and would call us. I called today since I have not seen it come available after checking a lot. I thought it may have filled up from concierge guests or I somehow missed it.

The agent I spoke with tells me today "it's a VIP tour and only available for VIPs" What?? I told her what I was told on Monday, that VIP Pisa was only the name of the tour and it was listed on the website but not available to book. She looked into my file and said she saw the note about calling but she didn't see it available. I'm hoping for a call and hoping to be one of the "VIPs"

Keep calling until you get one with a clue.

OK, I heard back from a local expert for Sardinia on Tripadvisor that Pittulongu Beach is about 4 miles from the port. They said I could catch a taxi from the port to the beach and be there in about 10 minutes so (assuming it's a pretty day) I think we're headed to Pittulongu versus the ship excursions to La Cinta or the other beach offered. :thumbsup2

Yes, but did she tell you that you could take a taxi back from the beach to the port? That would be my big worry, getting stuck four miles from the ship. I realize taxis in the Carribean will agree to come back and pick you up, and then will actually do it, but given how infrequently cruise ships are in Olbia, I'm not sure I would count on taxis there being as reliable.

To stay up and late try to book excursions for 7.28.07

Any last minute tips or advice?

I have read all the way thru this thread and the other med excursions threads.

TIA!

No, I didn't ask about taxis back...that is a good point. I'll see if I can't get a better idea of what facilities are at the beach, where I might be able to catch a taxi back to the port.

Let us know what you hear! I would rather save $200 and not go through Disney, but I am worried about the return transportation.

My advice is if you plan on Palo, book first to get your first choice(s) and then do excursions. I logged on right before 3 and retrieved all my information and wish list for excursions and went from there. I could actually start about 3 or 4 minutes of 3 AM. Make sure if you change numbers of people for Palo from 1/2 to 3/4 that you double check that you get it in your review area. I noticed that even though I switched to 3/4 when I booked it, it said 1/2 and I had to redo it. It took me about a half an hour to book Palo for high tea, brunch, and dinner and 7 excursions. DH was also up and working on our lap top getting reservations for his mom and our ds9 who is booked in her stateroom.

According to some on our cruise meets thread, only dinners were left in Palo with in an hour of the booking window opening. I know that some members of past cruises and the one I'm on had trouble booking at first and when they logged out and switched to Internet Explorer from Fire Fox, AOL, etc. they had know problem.

If you don't get what you want at Palo, don't be discouraged because you can always book after boarding.

If you find that some excursions are not available, call DCL at 9AM to double check if they will be released later.

Good luck!

Will post after we do our ressies to tell how it worked out

It's just past 1am here, we have been fighting with the computers for over an hour.

DCL web site keeps timing out, "site temporarily busy", or you just get the swimming mickey head fish and then nothing ever happens.

We did manage to book a few things but at the moment the booking came online VIP Pisa was not even listed - it was the first thing I looked for.

We could not get any Palo's for 5-6 people, it seems there were zero 5-6 reservations open. We were able to book dinner and brunch.

The other excursion I was interested in "Convertible car tour" in Villefranche either sold out very quickly or was never even listed.

Maybe they have just started holding back spots on the very low capacity but very popular excursions - who knows??

The spa ressies - you pick a time and hit reserve and then it keeps telling you that it just gave that time away, you have to pick another. I guess you have to be really quick!

Here are some excursion times I took down, I know some people had been asking about what times the excursions are:
Palermo for kids 8:30-12:30
Pompeii for families 7:45am - 6:15pm
Maddalena Archipelago 8:45am-3:15pm
Lerici Castle 8:30 - 2pm
Marseille little train 9:15 - 12:15
Monaco little train 7:45 - 12:45

Some of the shorter excursions had choices of a morning or afternoon time.

Anyway, happy to be sailing - looking forward to it.

I also wanted to do a beach on our own here in Obia, Sardegna. I know we can get a taxi to take us to the beach, but I am soooo worried that they might not be reliable to pick us up :sad2:

I am totally confused. Susy, are you on the July 28th cruise? Are you in a suite? (You probably are since you are booking now  )

thanks for posting. that means our time is coming up.

I finally received a reply from Gabriele (sardegnaweb.it) - gave me the following if anyone is interested:

http://www.justsardinia.it

I have emailed them this morning and waiting for reply.

They have taxis, vans and busses that hold up to 54 people. If you email them, please mention that you received their website via sardegnaweb.it.

Perhaps if people from each excursion contact them - they will be happy/reliable for the future cruisers ;)

I would love to do a 3/4 hour beach excursion and if up to it a quick stop to Porto Cervo here.
