Mediterranean Excursions

We booked our excursions, which ones are you pertaining to? You can also just give DCL a call and they will tell you the times of the excurisons.

Hi there!

I want to do the quick Pisa tour then possibly add on another tour such as the Cinque Terra boat ride or Portovenere tour.

Was just wondering if this was even possible or if anyone else did 2 tours in a day at any ports.

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi I emailed DCL and got this response

The exact meeting times for every Mediterranean shore excursion will be
posted on our website for your cruise beginning on April 29, 2007. If
timing permits and you would like to do two shore excursions in one day,
you may do so but be sure to schedule at least 1 hour between each shore
excursion to allow for possible delays or travel time.
La Spezia Pisa Meet at 8:30 AM 4 - 4.5 hours

This would mean that your next tour would have to start @ 2pm ish -

hope that helps

Have just been advised there will not be staggered times on the med cruise.
Main dining is to be 6.p.m. and late at 8.30.

Hope this helps with the planning.

Hi

It show on forum : Did you know you can pick your dining time?

I am happy if I get 6 pm seating as last time was 5.30 pm as it was rushing.

Did you received email from BA to say that Flybe will taking over on 24th March? Will it effect our flight??

Just wonder.

That helps a ton! Thanks for the response, Helen!

The DCL description of the "Exclusive VIP Visit of the Vatican & Highlights of Rome" excursion includes the following statement:

"Exclusive to this tour, photos will be allowed to be taken inside the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel, but strictly no flash photography."

Does anyone know if this is really a special arrangement for this particular tour? For those who have used private tour companies, have you been able to take photos (non-flash at least) in the museums and the Sistine Chapel?

Thank you.

That would be a special deal for the Sistene chapel. Generally you can take pictures anywhere within St. Peter's or the Vatican Museums, EXCEPT that since they cleaned the Sistene Chapel, there is some deal with the people who cleaned it that you can't take pictures in there (so that you will buy their books, I'm guessing). Perhaps DCL has used its clout to allow photography in the Sistene for this tour, though . . .

Hi,

I received an email from DCL saying there would not be staggered dining times.

Thank you for your e-mail.

The staggered dining times that are offered on our Caribbean sailings
will not be offered on our Mediterranean itinerary. Therefore, Main
Dining will be at 6:00pm and Second Dining will be at 8:30pm.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us.

Have heard nothing from BA regarding BE taking over some of their services. Know they have been working together on flights for some time as we have found this when flying out to Channel Isles to visit daughters.

Thanks for updating us. I'm happy since we have early seating and I wanted the 6 pm time. Thanks again!

I read thru the packet, & now where to be found was the internet.

Does anyone know, if it will be avaible to us or the cost?

The actual round trip cost per person for a train ride into Rome and back is 9 euros (about $13) -- you get the BIRG ticket at the Civitavecchia train station which gives you the round trip train ride plus unlimited bus or subway rides in Rome. The Rome on your own is just the transportation. The train into Rome gives you two options for getting out, depending upon whether you want to start your day at the Vatican (get out at the Vatican Scavi stop, about 45 minutes from the port) or the Colosseum (get out at the Termini stop, about 1 hour from the port).

The advantage to taking the DCL Rome on your own is what the previous poster said -- some people feel it would be stressful to worry about getting the tickets, making it back to the train, etc. Others (like me) think the process is part of the fun. Decide which group you are in and enjoy the day!

Julie, Where can I buy train tickets for 9 euros? This site:

http://www.raileurope.com/us/index.htm

Shows the fare to be considerably more than that? Is it reccomended to get the tickets in advance or can we just wait and get them at the train depot 2when we get there? What is the BIRG ticket?

Any infor is appreciated.

Hi Mike ... I don't know exactly where Julie found the price, but I did a search and found the following information out at VirtualTourist:

Civitavecchia is about 70km away from Rome and this makes it time consuming and exhausting to visit Rome even though it is 'only' an hour and a quarter away by train. If you arrive to the port: It takes time to get to the railway station from the port. Only in the port you will walk over 1km in case you don't catch a shuttle to the port gate. From the port gate it is another 10 minutes walk to the railway station (all the way by taxi is 15 EUR and far too much), then you need to wait for the train if one isn't waiting for you. At Rome, if you get off at Termini, the railway station is huge and it takes alot of time to get out from there - the train from Civitavecchia stops far away from the entrance.... and of course on the way back (after you have managed to see some of Rome which is chaotic, full of people and very hot in summer) you will have to be back on the train in time not to miss your cruise ship and again it is exhausting getting back to the ship. Anyway we did it - and the ticket cost 4.10 EUR one way. You can get tickets from a machine with coins. Don't forget to stamp the ticket before getting on the train

I hope this helps! Good luck!

You don't buy them in advance -- just at the train station at Civitavecchia when you get off the ship . . . the BIRG ticket gives you round trip train fare plus unlimited use of buses and the metro in Rome . . . I don't think you can get it in advance since it's a special deal.
