Looking for opinions from those who have done Medifast. It is running$299 for the month throught tomorrow. How much did you lose, and did you keep it off?

I would suggest taking that money and pay for a nutritionist and doing some mild exercise.
You will be better off in the long run. Diets won't keep the weight off, life style changes do. Though no one like to hear that, it took me years to accept it myself.
I've lost about 75lbs in about 18 months and kept it off (and will loose another 25). Some simple changes for me made the biggest difference. First was only drinking beverages with no calorie (and no not that diet stuff, it's worse than the full calorie products). I drink a lot of pellagreno (sp)., water, flavored seltzer. Next was cutting snacks to fruit and nuts (ice cream on weekends). Most important is portion control. I also don't deny myself anything, if I want a snickers I have one, I just make sure that I compensate for the extra calories.

I tried it...lost 18lbs in a month and put it right back on. I had to adopt a whole new healthy lifestyle to finally get the weight off...60lbs and counting. It's not easy...and I have tried ALL of these diet programs...but what worked best for me was realizing I couldn't do those things for life and I needed to find a healthy way to live that could be forever.

I did it and lost 80 lbs. I got pregnant and had to go off it. It was very easy to follow and once you got over the low carb flu feeling that first week I had awesome energy.

I've never tried Medifast but am currently on a program similar to Ideal Protein, which sounds a little like medifast.

It involves having daily:

  • Breakfast - Ideal Protein packet/shake/bar
  • Lunch - 2 cups of vegetables (most are OK, but some like beets are excluded and others like tomatoes you can have only 2x/week) plus another packet/shake/bar
  • Dinner - 8 ounces of meat plus 2 cups vegetables
  • Snack - another packet/shake/bar

So far this has been really easy for me to follow and I've lost more than 20 pounds since the beginning of the year.

The official Ideal Protein program is pretty costly and involves weekly weigh-ins and meetings with "coaches." However, it's also possible to replicate the program using alternative products that are available at BJs/Costco/Walmart as well as some other websites. It's much cheaper to do it this way, and I'm finding that it works fine.

If you google Ideal Protein alternatives you'll find some good ideas and additional information if you're interested.

Hi - I was on Medifast for a few months and lost about 17lbs. I kept it off even though I stopped due to health issues. I still have a box left so I'm going to try it again this week and I pray I can do it for the 6 weeks and lose at least 10 or so before my May trip. It is really only a jumpstart type of thing not a lifestyle change but it can certainly assist in a boost if that's what you are looking for!

That seems rather pricey. I have a lot of health issues. I've been taking Shakeology, and for the first time in almost 2 years my potassium and sodium were normal last blood work. My dr was so surprised. It has been so low at times, I was in ER with them fearing I would have a heart attack.

I'm going to admit that I am now a BeachBody coach, so no hidden agenda, but contact me if you want more info. I am into clean eating, healthy recipes now. I feel so much better than I did 6 months ago. Don't get me wrong, I still have health issues that will likely never resolve (autoimmune diseases-sigh-yes more than 1 unfortunately), but this has really helped me. I've been asked to sell tons of stuff and refused. This I believe it. It gave me my life back.

I did it for a while but it messed with my digestive system. If you look at the ingredients, it is mostly made of soy. I couldn't handle that.

I did MF a few years ago and lost 65 pounds in 6 months! I have kept all the weight off for 3 years now, but only because I did a total transformation on how I eat. I think all diet plans will let you lose weight, but it is what you do after the weight comes off that matters.

I did two weeks on Medifast. Then switched to Wonderlim for two weeks to compare. I am losing about the same amount of weight but on the WS Core program you get a fruit, a dairy, and a starch. Right now I prefer Wonderslim.

Thanks for all the input. I know it's not a permanent solution, hoping for a jump start, then combine with WW for transition.

I wish you the best with whatever program you choose! However, IF you choose MF, I highly recommend you stick with it and transition the Medifast way. The only people who are successful with MF, and keep the weight off, are those that follow the program until the end. This includes the full 6 week transition program. Save the WW for maintenance. YMMV

She lost 106lbs in 6 months. I hear it is all natural, she said you put 10 drops under your tongue (?) then eat 4 oz of meat and 4 oz of salad 2x a day and 2 pieces of fruit. I have been the same weight for about 10 years now, I never go more then 5 lbs either way. so has anyone else heard of this and pro or cons?

I did Optifast a few years ago...not worth the money. You lose weight, but unless you teach yourself some good eating habits while you're on it (and you won't because real eating habits are a heck of a lot harder than shakes) then you'll gain the weight back....trust me on that on.

I finally had a sleeve gastrectomy in December. That's a whole lot more effective!

The folks that sell omni will tell you all sorts of bogus stuff about the drops. Please be wary of this super restrictive diet. You are limited to 600 cal/day. You will lose weight but most of it will be lean muscle mass. It can also really screw up your metabolism and cause health problems. I would strongly caution against this. Hcg has not be proven to have any real links to weight loss or support the claims, not to mention as a homeopathic product omni does not actually contain hcg

I do AdvoCare. I've lost 85lbs so far. It teaches you how to eat healthy without deprivation and you get a personal coach, meal guide, recipes, online support and a step by step guide. I started with a 24 day challenge where I lost 9.5lbs and 19.5 inches, 8 on my stomach. I've never seen anyone fail if they follow the lifestyle. Whatever you choose remember this is a lifestyle change and not a diet. If you "diet" you will eventually fail. If you change your lifestyle you will succeed. Best of luck!

I tried Nutrimed shakes at my local hospital. I lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks and 20 overall before I hit a wall. Eating less than 500 calories a day and still couldn't drop another pound. Not to mention it made me terribly constipated. Sorry for the TMI, but this is a serious side effect. I needed to lose another 25 but didn't and ended up eventually gaining it all back and then some. Same for 2 other people that I know of. I also believe it wrecked my metabolism.

The only thing that truly worked for me was a Weight Watchers at Work group. I can't seem to duplicate the success in a regular open meeting setting. The At Work group was amazing and supportive.

I am using My Fitness Pal now and trying on my own.

Best of luck.

My friend did that. It is a 500 calorie per day diet. They will tell you it is "real" HCG and if you ask them to tell you the ingredients, they will tell they they don't discuss ingredients. It is HcG (it can't be, that is only legal by prescription.)

She couldn't stick with it long. It is grueling.

I believe this is the same diet another friend went on and lost 100 pounds in less than a year. She has gained at least half of it back. It is very difficult to stick with.

I just became an Advocare distributor! Glad to see it worked for you :) I'm currently doing the 10 day cleanse and so far after 8 days lost 3 lbs.
