Medieval Times or Character Breakfast

Have any of you ever done Medieval Times on one of your trips? We are trying to decide between another character breakfast and a Medieval Times dinner on our trip next week. We have a 10:40 reservation for the Plaza Inn Minnie and Friends breakfast which we have done before and love. We can easily get an earlier reservation as well but we love that brunch time frame. However, my oldest son is 10 and I'm wondering if Medieval Times might be more his speed. Has anyone ever been? Worth it? The character meal will run us about $100, and the Medieval Times dinner will be around $125 with coupons. So the cost is pretty comparable. It's going to be a crazy busy time to travel so we don't want to waste time doing two big meals. For reference, I also have 6 and (almost) 2 year old daughters.

On one hand, I like the idea of trying something totally new and different, since we go to the parks once or twice a year (though this is the first trip in 2.5 years). On the other I'm concerned about spending so much time out of the parks when traveling during such a busy time. We typically are park openers, tour until about 12/1:00, take the kids back to the hotel for a nap, and head back in around 3/4:00. I suppose we could always do a late nap that day, at like 2:30, and then do the 5:00 show at Medieval Times and head back in to close out the day at the parks.

Anyway, anyone have any thoughts, experiences or recommendations?

When I lived in Northern California we always went to Medieval Times one of our evenings; but we were adults and drinking.
I love it and I'm thinking about taking my 8 year old this trip. He's been to the Toronto castle twice and loves it. I think it's an amazing experience and if it's the only time to see it I think it's worth it. I've already priced uber to get there- it's about 15 minutes with traffic and about $15 each way.

I understand your dilemma; the girls are the perfect age for a character breakfast but I think they would both enjoy the castle as well.

As far as time away from the parks- it would be about 3 hours with travel time; you can maybe do the early show and go back to the parks or have an early bedtime and get an early start the next morning.

My sons loved Medieval Times. We have done the dinner show in several locations and regardless of their ages, they have always had a great time. The last time that we did it, they were 19 and 17... they still really enjoyed it.

They would take MT over a character meal any day. Don't get me wrong, they love the character meals too, but they like MT more.

We took our 7 year old grandson a few months back when we took him to DL. He was not sure what to think at first he has a little problem with eating without utensils. But when the competition started he really got into it. Of course that made for an expensive trip thru the gift shop on the way out. He has also been to character breakfasts and seems to enjoy them but not as much as the fighting at MT.

I liked MT but honestly I won free tickets so that helped in my choice- we also used our travel day night to go so no missed park time. The food was good and it was ok to watch but unless I won tickets- I probably wouldn't go again. Maybe when my DS who's almost 2 gets older, but my DD8 thought it was more fun to look at the horses before the show then watch it lol it's one of those novelties for us that's a once is enough. Personally during a busy time I wouldn't waste park time unless you are looking for a break from the park and for our family we could do Minnie's yearly and be perfectly satisfied- we like the food and we love characters. This is a personal choice though- we like to do all the rides when we go, meet a lot of characters (for photos and autographs) and we love food, we get there before RD, take an afternoon nap break, then close the park and nothing messes with our park days lol so for us after going I wouldn't go again and def wouldn't miss Minnie's for it, but if you have a sword loving son and want to get a break from the Disney bubble and crowds it may be worth your time

Would timing work where you could do MT the day you arrive? And not take away from park time? Might be a fun way to start the trip and not use 3 Disney hours...

My kids LOVED MTs!!! It was so much fun to them, we are trying the pirate adventure this trip since they liked the other so much

A couple months ago we were in CA visiting family. We didn't do the parks, but we did breakfast at PCH to get a little disney in, then we had dinner at Medieval Times. My 3 oldest (5, 7, & 9) went and they all said they liked MT better than the character breakfast. Made me a little sad, lol. Definitely google for discounts. The prices are crazy without a code. There's also a pirate adventure dinner nearby. I've heard the food isn't as good as MT, but the show is great. We want to do that one the next time we're in town.

we have done both and I enjoyed the MT over Goofy Kitchen. my son was 10 at the time and he had a blast.

I have some great memories of doing Medieval Times around 12. My brother does as well and was around 10. I would definitely itely pick MT over a character breakfast. But, you won't make it back to the parks that night until pretty late. (Also there are MTs across the country so if you plan on being near another MT castle in the next couple years you could do this dining experience then.)

We took our kids to MT when son was about 8 and daughter 9. That was a very laughter-filled night that we all remember. The kids were totally into it.

you can also check getawaytoday.com they sell tickets to MT idk how much of a savings or if you would save more w a coupon but good to chk

I went to Medieval Times a few years ago for the first time when I was 11 or 12 and I loved it! It is a really fun experience but I totally get not wanting to miss out on Disney time! For me it would depend on how many days you are staying/what you want to get accomplished. Either way .. you will have a GREAT time! :)

I went to a Medieval Times-esque dinner when I was 12 and my brothers were 10. (I think it was a rodeo theme? But same concept.) Absolutely loved it. :) Since you've done the character breakfast before, this might be an exciting and different experience for your kids! Plus they'll see characters at the parks, so I think you'll get best of both worlds. Have fun!

Thanks so much for all of the replies and responses. I think we definitely want to do it, we just hate to give up the park time for it. We thought about arrival day, but since my 10 year old is DYING to go to Legoland (though we could care less, and would rather have one more Disney day), we're going to make that our arrival day plan. We will drive from Vegas to Carlsbad, do Legoland, and then head to Anaheim for our hotel. I'm thinking trying to cram MT in on that day will just be too much, and NO ONE will be happy. This is also a day my 2 year old will not have a nap, since we won't be checked into a hotel yet, so that's a recipe for disaster.

We will have our car. I'm now just trying to decide whether it will be better to do the 5:00 show, and then try to close down the park, or hit the just plan on one night being an early night for DLand, and doing the 7:15 show and then packing it in for the night. Why is this so hard to decide?!

5 pm might be better if your kids can close the park. It's still pretty busy at 5 pm but the crowds are much better later plus then you end your trip Disney
