Do you ever read a Medication warning and think.. Hmmm.. Who WRITES these things?? :confused3

I was perscribed Ambien today.. For those of you who may not know what it is, it is for insomnia/sleep disorders to help you fall asleep and/or stay asleep

Ok, so reading the Warnings.. MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS... umm.. Ya' Think?? Take ONLY at Bedtime.. umm.. yeaaa.. I would Hope so.. and my favorite.. USE CARE WHEN OPERATING A CAR OR DANGEROUS MACHINES.. Ok, I don't know about YOU.. but, I.. do NOT normally Drive while I'm trying to fall asleep..

:upsidedow

I guess they have to put that for lawsuits- sad, huh? Imagine, a sleep aid causing drowsiness???!!

Be careful of the mindless munchies on Ambien- my MIL would take it and not go to sleep right away. The next morning, it would look like a hurricane went through her kitchen :rotfl: She wouldn't even remember eating anything if not for the evidence!

Wow.. Really? :scared:
That's not listed in the side effects ;)

It's called CYA.

Can you imagine the lawsuits if they didn't put that in the warning packet? Most people would know not to do that stuff, but in this sad litigious world, they have to put stuff like that in there.

They say that if you read the warning on a lable, then most likely that company has been sued for it at one point or another.

"Warning: Cape does not enable wearer to fly"

My favorite is an ad for a medication for balding men (I think it was either that or ... er ... ED), and one of the precautions they state is "if you might be pregnant, you should not take this pill".

Ya think???????? :lmao:

Exactly--which is scary, considering some of the warnings on products today. My hair straightener has a warning that it is not to be used on eyelashes! :scared1:

Or the one that warns to report any sleepwalking or amnesia.... If you don't know about it, how can you tell your doc? :confused3

I do love the sleep aid that warns "may cause drowsiness".... Isn't that why I got it to start with?!?!?! I guess if I really wanna sleep, I'll go to the ABC store first. :rolleyes1

I just thought of a commercial that DH & I saw

Restless Leg Syndrome.. The Medication, may cause an urge to Gamble

This is Ambien, so what you NORMALLY do doesn't count. PLEASE, for your safety, read the following story: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/14/AR2007031401027.html

My favorite is my anti-nausea/vomiting medicne that warns it may cause vomiting. :confused3

Very true! I have a good friend who is a psychiatrist in another state (so I have no idea who his patients are). He's told me a few interesting stories.

One lady would know she had eaten because the kitchen would be a mess. Another would wake to find whole meals cooked and put away in the refrigerator - with all pots cleaned and put away. But the funniest is the one who found herself downtown (in a medium sized city) clad only in a teddy. And she was a fluffy lady in her 60s (which describes me - but it was NOT me).

His advice on Ambien was to not take it until you were already in bed.

What about the birth control commericals that say "do not take if you are pregnant"? Why would you take the birth control pill or use the new v-ring if you were pregnant?

I'll second the "be careful". I took Lunesta for a month (slept like a rock for 30 days--as far as I can remember anyway!!) and tried to wean off it-YIKES! The rebound effect and the withdrawal symptoms were terrible for 48 hours. I will not be taking any more prescription sleep aids. Scary time!

I was told only to take it for 2 weeks.. Then I have to go back to the DRs.. She also only gave me pills in 10mg form. It's rapid release form are they all the same? :confused3 I'm more worried about raiding the frige then going for a drive but, it's still scary..

A sister + two friends had the "middle of the night" eating while on Ambien. One would blame her son for eating all the Doritos .... the other one said her husband asked why she'd bitten a "face" into a slice of bologna. She has no remembrance of doing it. There'd be times one of them would find food on the bedside table, etc.

I've also read or heard on their tv ads about "driving" without remembering. Now, that in and of itself is scary!!!

I don't know if they do this in the USA but here in the UK there is a medication for children under 3 which states 'Do not drive or operate heavy machinery if taking this'.....I don't know many 3 year old this applies to! :confused3

omg..lol!!!:rotfl: :rotfl2:

Some of those labels are silly. You're taking it to put you to sleep - it ought to make you sleepy. Duh.

But a lot of folks don't realize how that stuff kicks in. You're awake and then BOOM! you're asleep. One friend of mine took one of them (Ambien, I think) and her husband had to pull a cigarette out of her hand as she fell off to sleep. :scared:
