medication in my carry on

As long as you are flying domestic, you can use the pill dispenser. I do it all the time. When I went to India, I took my original bottles but they were never checked.

Just in case, though, take your bottles in your carry on.

What if your luggage gets lost?
Can you easliy get your prescription refilled after your 7 days are out?

Definitely only put it in carry-on, that way you don't have to worry about it getting lost.

Thanks for the replies. I planned on putting my medication in my carry on but someone recently told me that I would need to keep the medicine in their prescrition bottles. It's only been a couple of years since I've flown and it wasn't an issue then so I looked on the TSA web site and could not find an answer. So I knew someone here would have an answer for me.

TSA is there for security, not drug enforcement. I specifically asked them one time if I needed the original bottles and they said no.

Have a great time! I'll be right behind you on Saturday morning!

It's only if you are crossing a border with a lot of pills that you'd need to original bottles with labels. For domestic, I just dump all my meds into the same bottle. I know what they are!

I use those 7 day pill dispensers and have never had an issue going through security.

No issues, we use a small little pill case for medication (mostly over the counter). Now if it was a liquid medication, leave it in the original bottle (doubt you'd move it anyway) as liquid medications are exempt from the 3-1-1 rule, but they would need to be in their original bottle to be realized as medication.

We just got back from WDW last Sunday (Oct 17th). Going down there and coming back my husband has two of those long skinny 7 day pill reminders and I had a square Vera Bradley one. We never took the pills out of our carry ons. About a week before we left I was diagnosed with diabetes and my doctor gave me a Victoza pen (not insulin, but regulates blood sugar levels). I was concerned that the pen needed to be kept cold, had seven double ended needles with it, and was not labeled. I put it in insulated lunch bag with two frozen blue thingys. Going through security I took them out of the lunch bag and put them and the frozen blue thingys in a bin, but forgot to take out the lancets for my glucometer. The only comment made was by the Dallas TSA agent who said how much she liked my Vera Bradley lunch bag. None of the TSA agents said a word about the unlabeled Victoza pen, it's needles, or the lancets, much less the pills in the weekly pill organizers.

Fly enough and you will run into an overzealous TSAer that thinks he/she works for DEA. Use whatever you like to carry you pills flying domestic. Get a supervisor if any problems with a line TSAer.

I am so glad this question was ask now I don't need to take all those bottles. But as a pre-caution I will take a copy of the precription form they give you when they fill your perscription just in case I need to get something.

We have gone to Disney 4 times since 08 and I have taken my 7 day pill container in my carry-on with no problems at all I have even taken my extra day's pills in labeled plastic baggies in my carry-on without problems

I don't even use the pill a day box things. I have 3 tiny little round containers I put in my purse with my daily meds in them. I have never had to pull them out to be screened, and I have never been hassled about them.

I also bury more of the same meds in my checked bags. They are nothing fun, just asthma meds. But I figure that way if I loose my purse I will still have my medication.

If you use a national chain pharmacy, check with your pharmacist. It's likely that you can get a refill just with your name (and some other identifying information) as many of the chains use a nationwide computer network.

No reason to drag along all the bottles. I usually carry a 14 day supply, so two 7 day pill containers, just in case. I send myself an email that can be accessed via the internet (yahoo, gmail, etc.) with a list of all meds, dosages, issuing doctor with contact info and issuing pharmacy with phone number and script number. If something were to go tragically wrong it can be accessed easily via the internet. You can also send the list to friends and family who may be traveling with you or are your emergency contact back home, just in case you are incapacited and they would need to let medical professionals know what you are on, vs them handing over a huge bag of pill bottles.

My Mom & Dad are on a long list of meds and they keep a running list that they update regularly in Microsoft Word. Each time a script is added/deleted/modified they update the computer file and email it to me. I feel comfortable that I could help in an emergency vs having to collect a plethora of bottles.

It is a little bit of extra work for this - but here is what I do with my meds.
Whenever I get a prescription bottle that is one of the SMALLER ones, I keep it. You know the smaller ones - about 3 inches tall - brownish - and the diameter of about a nickel. I keep all of these. So during the year, when I renew one of my meds, I very carefully remove the prescription label, and apply it to one of the smaller bottles. I set it aside.
When it comes time for my annual vacation, I do take my week's meds in the day by day container - but I also put a supply in a smaller bottle in my checked luggage, and also another smaller bottle in my carry-on piece of luggage. My labels will have all the information that they need with only one exception - the expiration dates will be past expiration. So if by chance I ever lose one piece of luggage I won't have to worry about my blood pressure medicine.
